Chapter 48: Sudden Strength

After I ascertained that Elijah would indeed make a full recovery within the next few days, I left the infirmary to look for Blaise. I could feel a sense of unease after the conversation with Elijah, but part of me worried that the unease stemmed from Blaise. He had gone off with Damon after all; Blaise said that Damon would never hurt him, but what on earth did he define as hurt?

Was he going to put Blaise in the infirmary, on the bed next to Elijah, so he could groan in pain on cute pink bed sheets?

I wandered around the pack house, hoping to find Blaise. If Damon was done with him, he could be anywhere now. Without a wolf, I did not have a convenient way to call for him. And I didn’t even have a handphone like a normal human to contact him!

And I certainly wasn’t going to knock on Damon’s door. Selfish bastard.

After half an hour, Blaise still hadn’t shown up. I was getting many inquisitive glances from fellow pack wolves, some of them bordering hostility. The news of the altercation in the kitchen had already gotten around, and many variations of the story had been created. Nevertheless, they had one common factor, namely, I, Harper Gray, was the vixen that seduced Blaise and tore the two brothers apart.

One of the wolves actually dared to approach me. She took a long, exaggerated sniff and wrinkled her nose.

"So you’re the girl that Beta Blaise marked," she said, pointing her nose up haughtily as she encircled me. Behind her was another woman, who wore an equally vile look on her face.

Great to know that there was more than one version of Susie in the house. It looked like Blaise’s fan club wasn’t much smaller than Damon’s.

"She has a collar too," the second girl at the back whispered, gesturing and pointing to the gray collar that was still around my neck, making me as the Alpha’s. "What a whore―"

She didn’t get to finish her sentence.

Strength flooded into my right hand, and without waiting a second more, I pulled back my fist and thrust forward, landing a punch on the second woman’s face. Unprepared for the sudden attack, she barely even managed to raise her hand to block before she was knocked back, flying across the room before her back hit against the tables behind, knocking over vases and various furniture.

Only after my punch had landed did I notice how effortless it had been to knock her back. Just like the encounter with Susie, I barely even used any strength and I could so easily throw a werewolf off their feet.

"What the fuck!" the first girl screamed, shocked. "How fucking dare you―"

I took a step forward, my fingers curling around her neck. She immediately let out a strangled gasp of air, her hands coming over in an attempt to pry my hand off her. Her claws dug down into my skin, pulling and dragging in hopes she could worm free, but I didn’t budge. Adrenaline coursed through my veins― I could barely even feel the pain.

When my gaze fell to the back of my hand, I realized that every mark, scratch, or wound she left in my skin only closed up nearly immediately. As a result, she left no visible mark on me other than some drool that had started to leak from the corners of her lips.

A crowd had gathered around us, most of them women. I couldn’t help but notice that a handful of them had similar collars to mine around their necks. They stood at the forefront, seemingly itching to come out and help but not daring to. After all, the example I had just made of their packmate was more than enough proof that I wasn’t someone to mess with.

"You’re... just... a h-human―"

"And yet you’re losing to one," I casually said, my eyes holding no emotion.

I raised my hand, easily lifting her off the floor. She wasn’t that tall to begin with, and since I had both the advantage of height and strength, her feet quickly left the ground.

All those years spent doing hard labor weren’t for nothing.

Another strangled gasp left her lips. She made choking sounds one after another, attempting to pry herself free but I only clenched harder. I wonder if I could just squeeze a little more. Would her neck explode just like that? ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

Shocked at my own train of thought, I abruptly let go. The woman collapsed to the floor with a thud, taking huge gulps of air as a few others came to her side. Some tried to pull her away to safety, while others only glared at me with caution. freewebnσvel.cøm

I paid them no mind, however. When did I become this strong to be able to get werewolves off my back so easily? On top of that, when did I turn so violent to want to do such things?

Was it truly the mate bond with Blaise that allowed for this?

No, it couldn’t be. The other time I felt this immense strength was when I encountered Susie, right after spending the night with Damon. But the strength was only temporary back then. Perhaps it was because he marked me, but I didn’t mark him back. That meant that it was a one-way thing.

Maybe this time, it would be lasting, considering Blaise and I were officially mated. Could being mates with werewolves turn a human into a werewolf as well? Or was I a special case, because I did have werewolf blood in me even prior to mating?

"Harper!"

My head snapped up at the sound of Blaise’s voice. The crowd parted for him immediately, allowing him a path through over to me. Even the two girls had scrambled away, most likely running off to Nicole’s infirmary for an immediate check-up. Even if they didn’t, I probably wouldn’t have given them lasting injuries.

"What happened here?" he asked once he got closer, holding onto my hands, the very same pair I had been unknowingly staring at. "Did you hurt yourself?"

"No, I―"

"She’s a tyrant, Beta Blaise!" a random man in the crowd yelled out. "She beat up Kelly and Geraldine without any rhyme or reason. She needs to be punished!"
