Chapter 88: Chapter 87: Meeting Silas 2

She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to hold the pieces together. "I don’t know how to reconcile those two things. Not wanting you destroyed but also not wanting to die."

Silas stood slowly, moving with obvious caution. When Eve didn’t retreat, he took another careful step closer. "Then we work together. You continue training, getting stronger every day. I work on my control, reinforcing the barriers, learning to feel Cain before he can surface. And we trust that between your strength and my control, we’ll find a way through this."

He stopped just close enough that Eve could feel his warmth but not close enough to touch. "I love you," he said quietly. "Have loved you since before I even knew what that meant. And I will do everything....everything....to make sure Cain doesn’t hurt you. Even if that means staying away until you’re ready. Even if that means never touching you again if that’s what keeps you safe."

The anguish in his voice, the absolute sincerity flowing through their connection....it broke something in Eve’s chest. freewebnovёl.ƈom

"I don’t want you to stay away," she admitted. "The connection between us....it hurts when we’re separated. Like part of me is missing."

"I feel it too," Silas said. "Like I’m incomplete without you nearby. But your safety matters more than my comfort."

Eve studied his battered face, seeing past the bruises to the man beneath. The man who’d showed such restraint even when Cain was clawing to get out. The man who’d held her through nightmares and watched her sleep with devoted eyes.

The man whose wolf had terrified her but who would destroy himself to keep her safe.

Elder Markov, who’d been watching silently from near the door, cleared his throat. "This is good progress. Healthy communication is essential for recovery from traumatic incidents." He moved closer, his ancient eyes moving between them. "I’ll schedule daily check-ins with both of you. Eve, we’ll work on strengthening your mental shields so you can potentially help reinforce Silas’s barriers through your connection. Alpha Silas, you’ll continue practicing the control techniques I taught you."

"And Cain?" Eve asked. "What about him?"

"Alpha Cain is a complication," Elder Markov admitted. "He’s not evil or malicious....just possessive and impatient. The work we do with Alpha Silas should help him understand that waiting is necessary and to think that he was the one who said he would wait for you untill you are strong enough, gives Alpha Silas room to make him understand that claiming you prematurely would hurt you, which is the last thing he actually wants."

"He seemed pretty willing to hurt me yesterday," Eve said.

"He was willing to risk it," Elder Markov corrected. "There’s a difference. In his mind, the potential benefit....finally claiming his mate....outweighed the risk. It’s flawed logic, yes, but it’s wolf logic. They think differently than humans or even human-wolf hybrids like Silas."

He pulled out a small vial from his robes, offering it to Silas. "This is a suppressant. Not strong enough to bind Cain completely, but enough to dull his influence. Take one drop on your tongue every morning. It should help you maintain better control."

Silas took the vial like it was made of glass. "Will it hurt him?"

"It will... mute him," Elder Markov said carefully. "He’ll still be present, still able to communicate with you, but his ability to seize control will be significantly reduced. Think of it as turning down his volume."

"Side effects?" Silas asked.

"You may feel slightly disconnected from your wolf instincts. Slower reactions in shifted form. Reduced aggression overall." Elder Markov shrugged. "But given the alternative....either binding him completely or risking another incident....it seems an acceptable compromise."

Silas looked at Eve, seeking her opinion.

"I think it’s smart," she said. "At least until we know the other safety measures are working."

He nodded and immediately placed one drop on his tongue. His expression twisted slightly at the taste, but he swallowed it down.

Through their connection, Eve felt the subtle shift.....like a door closing somewhere deep inside Silas, muting Cain’s constant presence to a distant hum rather than a roar.

"Better?" Elder Markov asked.

"Different," Silas said. "Quieter. I can barely feel him now."

"Good. That’s how it should work." Elder Markov collected his things. "Now, I believe Eve has a full day of training ahead. We need to accelerate your power development....yesterday’s incident proved that. The stronger you become, the sooner Cain can claim you safely."

The reminder of what was coming....what was inevitable....sent a chill down Eve’s spine.

But she squared her shoulders and nodded. "I’m ready."

As she turned to leave with Elder Markov, Silas’s voice stopped her.

"Eve?"

She looked back.

"Thank you," he said quietly."

Eve didn’t respond, just nodded and left.

The walk back through the estate was the same as before....pack members parting like water, fearful respect on every face. But this time, Eve tried to see it the way Elder Markov had described. Not as rejection, but as acknowledgment of power. Power she would learn to wield not as a weapon but as a shield.

When they reached the training room, Damian and Damon were already waiting. They took one look at her face and understood.

"How is he?" Damian asked.

"Broken," Eve said. "But healing."

"And you?"

Eve thought about that. Thought about the fear still curled in her chest, about Cain’s golden eyes promising soon, about the entire pack treating her like something dangerous and other.

"Also broken," she admitted. "Also healing." frёewebηovel.cѳm

Damian pulled her into his arms, and she let herself collapse against his chest for just a moment.

Elder Markov clapped his hands. "Enough sentiment. We have work to do. Eve, your power spike during yesterday’s incident was significant. I want to harness that. Teach you to access that level of power without the fear and adrenaline."

"How?" Eve asked, pulling back from Damian’s embrace.

"By pushing you to your limits again and again until accessing your full power becomes second nature." Elder Markov’s expression was serious. "It won’t be pleasant. In fact, it will probably be one of the hardest things you’ve ever done. But it’s necessary."

Eve thought of her three mates—Damian with his tactical mind, Damon with his wild protection, and through the estate walls, Silas with his devoted love despite everything.

She thought about the pack bowing to her in fear. About Cassandra’s submission. About teenage kids running from her presence. About becoming something that terrified people just by existing.

And she thought about Cain’s promise. Soon.

If she was going to survive what was coming....if she was going to become strong enough for Cain’s claiming, powerful enough to take the Seraphim throne.....she had to embrace what she was becoming.

Even if it meant losing the last pieces of her humanity.

"I’m ready," Eve said, and meant it. "Let’s begin."

Damien looked at he ’’ Eve i think you need to rest. I dont want you breaking down becase of exaustion’’

’’ He’s right Eve, You need to rest.’’ Damon added.

Damon turned to Elder Markov, ’’can we postpone today’s training?’’

’’Definatly Alpha, Elder Markov responded. I also think she needs to rest. We need to make sure her energy is right and stabilized before training.’’

’’I’ll come back tomorrow’’ then he left the estate.

’’ I need to be alone for a while’’ Eve spoke after staying silent for a long time.

Damon wanted to refuse but Damien looked at him and signaled to him not to say no to her.

’’Okay, but stay within the park ground’’

’’Okay....’’.
