Chapter 51: Chapter 50: Cassandra’s Defiance
Damian moved so fast Eve barely saw it. One moment he was beside her, the next he had the female wolf pinned against the wall by her throat.
"You will watch your mouth when speaking about our mate," Damian said, his voice dropping to a lethal growl. "That disrespect will not be tolerated. Apologize. Now."
The female wolf....clearly terrified but too proud to back down....spat at Damian’s feet.
Damon was there in an instant, his hand joining Damian’s at her throat. "Wrong answer."
"Stop," Eve said, surprising herself. "Let her go."
"Eve...." Damian started, but Eve shook her head.
"Let her go. Please."
Reluctantly, both brothers released the female wolf, who stumbled back, gasping.
Eve stepped forward until she was face to face with the hostile woman. "What’s your name?"
"Cassandra," she spat. "And I don’t have to respect you. You’re not pack. You’re not even wolf. You’re just a...."
"Careful," Eve interrupted, her amber eyes glowing brighter. "Choose your next words very carefully. Because yes, I’m succubus. Yes, I’m not wolf. But I am bonded to your alphas. And that means I have power here whether you like it or not."
She let her pheromones slip...just a little. Just enough that everyone in the room felt the full force of her nature.
Cassandra’s eyes glazed slightly, her hostility wavering as the pheromones affected her. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"I don’t want to be your enemy," Eve continued, pulling her pheromones back under control. "But I won’t tolerate disrespect either. So here’s what’s going to happen. You’re going to accept that I’m Luna. You’re going to treat me with the respect that position deserves. And if you can’t do that...." Her eyes flashed pure gold. "Then you can leave the pack. Your choice."
Cassandra stared at her for a long moment. Then, incredibly, she lowered her eyes in submission.
"Luna," she said quietly. It wasn’t warm, but it was respectful. "I apologize for my disrespect."
Eve nodded, accepting the apology even though she could tell it wasn’t entirely sincere.
She turned to address the entire room. "I know this is strange. I know it’s unusual for wolves to be mated to a succubus. But we’re all going to have to adjust. I’m learning to control my nature. You’re learning to accept me as Luna. We’ll figure it out together. Okay?"
A murmur of agreement rippled through the crowd.
"Good," Damian said, his hand returning to Eve’s back. "Now let’s discuss actual pack business. Marcus, what’s the status on the northern border patrols?"
The meeting continued, flowing into discussions of territory, security, and pack matters that Eve didn’t fully understand yet.
But she noticed things. The way male wolves kept glancing at her when they thought no one was watching. The way they positioned themselves closer to her than necessary. The way their scents changed....arousal mixing with the normal pack scents.
Her pheromones were contained, but her presence alone was affecting them.
And the brothers noticed too.
Damian’s hand never left her back....a clear territorial claim. Damon positioned himself on her other side, creating a wall of protection. And Silas stood slightly in front, his dark eyes tracking every male who looked at Eve a second too long.
After an hour, a young wolf....good-looking, probably mid-twenties....approached during a break in discussion.
"Luna," he said respectfully, but Eve could smell the attraction on him. "I’m Ethan. I wanted to welcome you to the pack properly. If you ever need anything, anything at all, I’m happy to...."
He didn’t finish the sentence because Damon grabbed him by the throat.
"Back off," Damon growled. "Now."
"I wasn’t...I didn’t mean...." Ethan stammered, his eyes wide with fear.
"You approached our mate with sexual interest radiating off you like a beacon," Silas said coldly. "Did you think we wouldn’t notice?"
"I’m sorry!" Ethan gasped. "It’s not intentional....she’s just—her nature makes it hard to...."
"Not our problem," Damian said flatly. "You control yourself or you leave. Those are your options."
Damon released him, and Ethan stumbled back, properly chastised.
"This is going to be a problem," Eve said quietly once Ethan had retreated. "Every male here is affected by my presence. How are we supposed to function as a pack if they can’t even be near me without getting aroused?"
"They’ll adjust," Damian said, though he didn’t sound entirely convinced. "Once the newness wears off, once they’re used to your presence, it will get easier."
"And in the meantime?" Eve asked.
"In the meantime, we make it very clear that looking is all they’re allowed to do," Damon said, his eyes tracking another male who was staring at Eve. "And if anyone crosses that line...."
"They die," Silas finished simply.
Eve shivered. This was going to be harder than she’d thought. Being Luna meant being visible, being present, being part of pack life. But how could she do that when her very nature made every male in the pack want her?
"Can we go home?" Eve asked quietly. "I’m trying to stay in control, but this is...it’s a lot."
"Of course," Damian said immediately. He raised his voice to address the pack. "We’re leaving. Continue the meeting without us. Marcus, you’re in charge. We’ll reconvene tomorrow evening."
As they made their way toward the exit, Eve felt dozens of eyes tracking her movement. Felt the desire, the attraction, the barely controlled instinct that her pheromones triggered in every male she passed.
She kept her head high, her pheromones as contained as she could manage, and tried to project confidence she didn’t feel.
But inside, she was terrified.
How was she supposed to be Luna when she couldn’t even walk through a room without causing chaos?
**************
"You did well tonight," Damian said once they were safely home, all four of them collapsed in the sitting room.
"I caused three near-fights and had to use my pheromones to make Cassandra submit," Eve countered. "That’s not ’well.’"
"You stood your ground," Damon corrected. "You showed strength. You made it clear you won’t tolerate disrespect. That’s exactly what a Luna should do."
"But the attraction," Eve said miserably. "Every male there wanted me. I could feel it. Smell it. How are we supposed to function like that?"
"We set boundaries," Silas said. "Clear, non-negotiable boundaries. No male approaches you without permission. No male speaks to you without one of us present. No male is ever alone with you."
"That’s not sustainable," Eve argued. "I can’t be shadowed every second of every day. And the pack will resent me for causing so many restrictions."
"Then we find another solution," Damian said. "Maybe Dr. Thorne knows of ways to dampen your pheromones more effectively. Maybe there are charms or spells that can help. We’ll figure it out."
"We always do," Damon added.
Eve wasn’t convinced. But she was too exhausted....emotionally and physically....to argue further.
"I need to feed," she said quietly, feeling the familiar hunger b.eginning to build again. "The stress of tonight burned through my earlier feeding."
"Then we feed you," Damian said, already standing and offering his hand. "Bedroom. Now."
Eve took his hand, letting him pull her up, and followed her three mates upstairs.
Where they spent the next several hours reminding her exactly who she belonged to.
And why being their mate, their Luna, their bonded succubus...was worth every challenge they’d face.
