Chapter 305: Chapter 305: Driven Away
Wei Hong’s expression was grim.
Sun Ting looked at her mom, then at Sun Jiaming and Gu’er. Her little face was full of confusion; she didn’t know what to do.
"Alright, alright, let’s drop it. We’re all family here. Tingting, your Second Uncle said he’ll have someone buy it, so you’ll get to watch a big color TV soon. Aren’t you happy?"
Cao Qiu quickly cut in.
"I’m happy. Tingting likes big color TVs."
Sun Ting nodded eagerly, her face breaking into a wide smile.
Gu’er couldn’t be bothered to say anything more. ’It’s their child. If they’re not worried about raising her wrong, it’s not my place to interfere.’
"Grandma, I want to live in a big house too. This house is so comfortable, I don’t want to go back. Can we live here from now on, please? Then Tingting can go back and tell my other grandma and all the other kids that my family has a big house too. They’ll all be so jealous of me. Please, Grandma?"
Tingting tugged on Cao Qiu’s hand, her little face full of longing.
Cao Qiu’s expression changed. She shot a fierce glare at Wei Hong.
"Did your mother teach you to say that?"
Cao Qiu asked Sun Ting, and Gu’er glanced over.
Sun Jiaming also looked over. Uncle Zhao and Sun Zhuzi were in the living room as well.
Grandma and Aunt Zhao were in the bedroom. Li Hua was over with Lin Shuying and the others and hadn’t come over yet.
"My... my mom said... that we and Second Uncle are one family and should live together. That way, it’s more lively. She also said Grandpa and Grandma wouldn’t have to travel back and forth. She said that if Second Uncle and Second Auntie were filial and sensible, they would ask Grandpa, Grandma, and us to move in. She also said that she and Grandma could take care of Great-Grandma. She said Aunt Zhao and her family are outsiders, that we should be the ones living in this house, not them. That we should make Aunt Zhao and her family move out."
Sun Ting was frightened by her grandmother’s expression. When everyone else turned to look at her too, she got scared and spilled everything her mother had told her.
Once Sun Ting finished speaking, the people in the room exchanged looks, their expressions varied.
Gu’er wasn’t particularly surprised, just slightly infuriated. ’This Wei Hong is really something else. Sun Jiasheng and Sun Jiaming split the family ages ago. The agreement was that Great-Grandma would live with Jia Ming and me, and my parents-in-law would live with Sun Jiasheng. If they didn’t want to be squeezed together, they could live separately. We could even buy them a house, but we couldn’t all live together. Now she sees we have a big house and wants to move in? Not a chance!’
’And now she’s complaining about Uncle Zhao’s family living here? Jia Ming and I don’t have the time, and Li Hua has gone to clean at the mall. Aunt Zhao has been taking meticulous care of Great-Grandma. The only reason Great-Grandma’s health is so good is thanks to Aunt Zhao. And she wants to kick them out? Who does she think she is!’
Sun Jiaming looked displeased as well. For this to happen on their wedding day... it had completely soured his good mood.
Cao Qiu was furious. ’That last fight with Jiaming was awful. It left me hurt and disheartened, and I only agreed to his terms because I felt I had no choice. But after I changed my ways, I noticed people started treating me better. I’ve been trying to change, trying not to be so difficult. I was so happy to see my son get married. And while the thought of moving in had crossed my mind, I knew Jiaming was serious, so I never planned on it. My daughter-in-law brought it up, and I shut her down completely. I can’t believe she’d go and fill my granddaughter’s head with these ideas.’
"I’ll teach you to spout nonsense! Who told you this? When did I ever say this to you? They all bully me, and now you’re bullying me too! You think your mother has it easy, huh? I married into this family, suffered and toiled without a single day of comfort! I served the whole family, cleaned up your piss and shit to raise you, and now you’ve learned to twist my words? I’m going to beat you to death!"
What no one expected was that the mortified Wei Hong suddenly yanked Sun Ting over. She smacked her on the head a couple of times. When Sun Ting didn’t cry, she started spanking her bottom hard.
Sun Ting burst into loud wails.
"What are you doing? You said it, so own up to it! Why are you taking it out on the child? How old is she? Does she even know how to lie? You’re the one who didn’t teach her right, and now you’re blaming the child? What kind of mother are you?"
Cursing, Cao Qiu pushed her daughter-in-law away, then pulled Sun Ting into her arms and began comforting her.
Uncle Zhao looked awkward, but he still chimed in, "That’s right. Whatever it is, you can talk it over. You shouldn’t hit a child."
Gu’er was angry too, but she didn’t move. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Sun Jiaming’s expression was dark. Aunt Zhao ran out of the room and asked, "What’s wrong? What happened? Why is Tingting crying? Did she fall and hit herself?"
She clearly didn’t understand what had happened.
Tingting was crying her heart out, her body wracked with sobs.
"Look at this! You’ve bruised the child’s bottom purple! Is she not your own daughter? How could you hit her so hard? You still want a house and a color TV? A TV my ass! Jiaming, don’t buy it. Spending that money would just make me angrier. You want to move in here? In your dreams! If I ever see you dare to hit Tingting again, I’ll make Jiasheng divorce you!"
"Mom, what are you talking about? Back when Jiaming hadn’t come to the city yet, you didn’t talk so tough. Back then, you were eating our food, using our things. Now that your lives are better, you’re starting to look down on us? What’s wrong with us wanting to move in? It’s such a big house, why can outsiders live here but we can’t? Well, I’m staying right here, and I’m not leaving."
Wei Hong figured since she’d already lost face, she might as well throw a tantrum. As long as she could move in, she had nothing to be afraid of.
Aunt Zhao understood now, and her expression became slightly awkward. Back when Jiaming and Gu’er asked them to move in, she had hesitated. But Jiaming and Gu’er said it would be more convenient for her to take care of Great-Grandma, so she discussed it with her husband and they moved in. She felt Jiaming and Gu’er treated her family well, so she did her best to take care of this family. She never thought the other side of the family would have a problem with it.
At this moment, anything she said would be wrong, so it was best to keep quiet.
Gu’er saw Cao Qiu about to stand up and argue with Wei Hong, and she felt a headache coming on.
"Alright, stop arguing. I don’t care what happened in the past. All I want to say now is that we’ve been busy for days, and everyone is tired. Stop making a scene. You came to help, and as hosts, we shouldn’t be kicking guests out. But we’re tired too, and we want some peace. We won’t trouble you any longer, Sister-in-law. Please go back home. You have plenty to deal with at your own house. You don’t need to worry about things here. We have Aunt Zhao, and if she’s not enough, I can do it myself. As for moving in, don’t even bring it up again. The matter is not up for discussion."
Gu’er was telling her to leave. She and Sun Jiaming had been so happy just moments before, only to be met with this drama. They even started hitting a child. ’If you have no sense of shame, then why should I bother saving face for you?’
"This is Jiaming’s house. You don’t get a say. If you kick me out, showing no regard for family, then let’s see you try and face the gossip that will drown you."
Wei Hong was unwilling to leave just like that.
