Chapter 144: Chapter 96: Lynch! You Won’t Take the Path to Heaven
...
Raymond’s grip was tight, however, and his laughter grew even more unrestrained. "My dear Junior, you’re quite the comedian! I, your Senior, just love clever juniors with quick minds like yours. Come, come, let’s talk in my study!"
Without another word, he enthusiastically dragged Lynch toward the study, giving him no chance to refuse.
Lynch put up a token struggle, but his Senior’s hand held him in a death grip. He was practically dragged into the study.
’Oh well,’ Lynch thought. ’While Necromancers primarily cultivate Spiritual Power, their physical strength naturally increases with their rank. It’s just like my mentor. I was always getting dragged around by him, completely powerless to resist.’
’It seems my Senior’s rank is nothing to scoff at.’
"Jonard, what are you standing around for? Didn’t you see my Junior has arrived? Hurry up and bring out my prized tea! Yes, and use the best water, the best cups." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"Junior, sit, sit! Don’t be a stranger, make yourself at home!"
Raymond bellowed a series of enthusiastic greetings.
Lynch was forcibly pushed down into a chair, and he helplessly gave up the struggle. His gaze swept across the study.
This was probably the most presentable room in all of Red Ridge Castle, but that wasn’t saying much.
The walls were made of rough, uncut stone, with a military map hanging on one. A logwood desk that looked like it was one slam away from collapsing was piled high with messy documents. In the corner stood an utterly empty bookshelf.
But what was most striking were the shattered porcelain fragments covering the floor.
Soon, the clerk, Jonard, returned in person with a tray bearing two wooden cups. Clearly, he was worried his master would smash the precious porcelain teacups in another fit of rage.
"Come, come, Junior! Try this ’Red Ridge Red Mist’!" Senior Raymond, completely oblivious, continued to entertain Lynch with immense enthusiasm.
Lynch glanced at the wooden cup for a few moments, then raised it and took a small sip of the tea inside.
’Hmm... The flavor is a bit strong and astringent, with a strange, smoky aftertaste. But at least it’s hot.’
Seeing him drink the tea, Senior Raymond launched into another tirade of praise for Lynch, saying things about bringing glory to the Undead System and playing a decisive role in the downfall of Viscount Golding, and so on and so forth.
Lynch could only respond with continuous, humble deflections.
After a while.
Senior Raymond’s tone then shifted, his expression turning grave. "However, as you’ve seen for yourself, Junior, our Red Ridge Territory is currently... hmm... temporarily facing a few minor difficulties."
Lynch just focused on drinking his tea, not daring to respond.
He couldn’t help it. The whole spiel was all too familiar, just like the tune his corporate bosses used to sing when they were selling him on a dream before he transmigrated.
Sure enough, in the next moment, Senior Raymond rose and strode over to the map. He jabbed a finger heavily onto the Red Ridge Mountain area and declared with passionate fervor, "But these difficulties are all temporary!"
"Do you know how important the geographical location of Red Ridge Mountain is?"
"Red Ridge Mountain guards the intersection of three provinces! The ground beneath it is crisscrossed with all sorts of mineral veins! It’s adjacent to the Mist Forest, rich in natural resources, and it once hosted several major trade routes! With careful management and diligent development, its potential is truly immense!"
Lynch, holding his teacup, struggled to maintain a polite yet awkward smile, nodding along in agreement. "Yes, yes. Senior, you are truly farsighted."
"And then there are my troops!" Senior Raymond puffed out his chest, his voice filled with pride. "Don’t be fooled by the fact that I don’t have many men under my command at the moment. Every one of them is a battle-hardened veteran."
"What’s more, we’re a mixed elite force, you understand? Mixed! We’ve got elite Human Race infantry, Dwarf brothers who excel at mountain warfare, Centaur Scouts who are as swift as the wind, and even goblin engineers!"
"Such a diverse, multi-faceted combat unit is extremely rare in the entire North Wind Legion. With a bit of training and reorganization, plus sufficient provisions and equipment, they will become an unstoppable blade!"
"Yes, yes, Senior is right," Lynch continued to agree, feeling his smile grow a little stiff.
"Compared to us, those buffoons from the Draenei Brotherhood are a mere nuisance. The Gnolls holed up in the Mist Forest and the Fishman Tribes scurrying about are nothing more than a bunch of dim-witted beasts."
Senior Raymond paced back and forth by the map, his tone impassioned.
"As for those Black Rock Beastman clans heading north, heh... they’re just a bunch of uncivilized barbarians. Why would I, Raymond, fear them?"
"As long as we, senior and junior, join forces, we’ll wipe out the bandits, restore the trade routes, and revive the mining industry! Making Red Ridge Territory great again will be just around the corner! When that time comes, you, my junior, will be the number one contributor! Merits, wealth, territory—all of it will be yours for the taking!" ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"The day our line of Necromancers finally holds its head high in the Empire will begin with us, brother!"
His Senior’s mood was impassioned, and the Red Ridge Red Mist tea in his hand was scalding hot, but Lynch’s heart was ice-cold.
’I finally managed to escape that huge vortex in Saint Roland City, only to stumble onto an even bigger pirate ship.’
But the worst part was, he couldn’t leave even if he wanted to.
After all, before he came, the academy had already registered his internship placement: the Thirteenth Battle Group of the North Wind Legion. And the commander of said battle group was none other than this Senior Raymond!
’Oh, forget it,’ he thought. ’I’ll just treat this like I’m on some hardship assignment in a remote region.’
’For now, I’ll just lay low and develop my strength, slack off discreetly, and muddle my way through this internship. Then I’ll figure out a way to get transferred back to the academy or somewhere else.’
Having made up his mind, Lynch asked obsequiously, "Senior, your guidance has been truly enlightening. I was just wondering, what specific arrangements do you have for me?"
