Chapter 8: Chapter 3: A Dragonfly’s Kiss, Boldly Buying a Villa (Part 2)
Because she needed help changing out of her wedding dress and didn’t want to bother Shen Yanzhi, Jiang Li roped in Zhong Mufeng.
After changing into her regular clothes, Jiang Li felt much more at ease.
Just as she placed her hand on the doorknob, Zhong Mufeng clicked her tongue. "You’d better take your bag! It’s full of red envelopes. If you lose it, I can’t afford to replace them."
Especially the two from Jiang Manshu and Shen Yugang. Judging by their thickness alone, they probably contained hundreds of thousands.
Jiang Li took the bag from Zhong Mufeng and blew her a kiss. "Alright, alright. I’ll treat you to dinner some other day."
Zhong Mufeng huffed. "I want to go someplace nice."
"No problem! Never mind someplace nice—I’ll even take you to a place with hot male waiters if you want."
Bag in hand, she opened the door right as Shen Yanzhi’s eyes met hers. Jiang Li licked her lips and quickly looked away. "Let’s go. Time to get something to eat."
’Oh god. Now every time I see Shen Yanzhi, I think about that fleeting kiss.’
’It was so soft and springy, just like Jell-O.’
’I really want another taste.’
Shen Yanzhi held out his hand. "Let me get that."
Jiang Li didn’t hesitate, handing him the bag before pulling her scarf up higher and tucking her hands into the pockets of her cashmere coat.
Luckily, there was a commercial district near the hotel. After a brief discussion, the two of them decided on a hot pot restaurant.
When it was time to order the broth, Shen Yanzhi chose medium spicy, which stunned Jiang Li. "You lived abroad for so many years and you can still handle spicy food?"
"I can."
Jiang Li was curious. "Doesn’t everyone say the food abroad is bland? After being subjected to that for five years, you can still eat spicy food. Don’t tell me you cooked for yourself all the time?"
Shen Yanzhi nodded. "I could never get used to the food there."
Jiang Li’s face lit up with anticipation. "Then I’ll have to try your cooking sometime."
She used to fantasize that after they got married, Shen Yanzhi would be cooking while she hugged him from behind.
Now that a strange twist of fate had actually led to her marrying him, she no longer had the courage to do it.
A flicker of light crossed Shen Yanzhi’s eyes. "You can try it tonight."
Once the broth came to a boil, they both started adding ingredients to the pot.
Throughout the meal, Shen Yanzhi constantly took care of Jiang Li, making sure her bowl was never empty. It gave her a strong sense of déjà vu, taking her back to the past.
Back when she and Shen Yanzhi used to eat hot pot together, he had taken care of her just like this.
Whether it was the steam from the pot or the atmosphere of the moment, Jiang Li suddenly asked, "Shen Yanzhi, if you hadn’t gone abroad back then... would things with Zhao Sinian never have happened?"
The hand Shen Yanzhi was using to pick up food froze. Instead of answering, he asked a question of his own. "So, why did you suddenly get together with Zhao Sinian back then?"
A flicker of disappointment crossed Jiang Li’s eyes. She lowered her head, prodding the contents of her bowl with her chopsticks. "Let’s not talk about the past."
Shen Yanzhi placed a piece of dried tofu in her bowl. "Okay. We won’t."
The pleasant atmosphere suddenly turned heavy because of the topic.
After dinner, they took a taxi straight to the largest real estate sales center in the Capital City. They didn’t speak the entire way, like strangers sharing a car.
The moment they stepped into the sales office, an agent immediately approached them. "Hello, what type of property are you two looking for?"
With cashback being the only thing on her mind, Jiang Li decided to cut to the chase. "What’s the size and price of the biggest villa you have?"
The agent carefully sized up the couple. The man was dressed in a white suit, while the woman wore a white cashmere coat over black leggings and a pair of combat boots.
’No matter how he looked at them, they didn’t seem like people who could afford a villa.’
Still, he dutifully began his introduction. "Our largest villa is 5,200 square meters, priced at 800,000 per square meter. It’s a standalone estate on the mountainside by Cloudreturn Lake, overlooking the entire Capital City..."
’Jiang Li’s eyes lit up. 5,200 square meters... the total price would have to be in the billions.’
’If this could trigger the 1,000x cashback, her family would be set for generations.’
While the agent was still in the middle of his diligent pitch, Jiang Li cut him off with a wave of her hand. "No need for more introductions."
’The agent sighed inwardly. Just as he thought. He knew they couldn’t afford it.’
"Just draw up the contract," she said. "But the payment will have to be made in installments."
The agent blinked, utterly bewildered, wondering if he had heard her correctly.
’Wait a minute... 5,200 square meters at 800,000 per square meter... that’s billions.’
’Yet Jiang Li had said it as casually as if she were buying groceries.’
"Ma’am, you’re not joking, are you?"
Jiang Li couldn’t be bothered to explain. She simply took out her phone, pulled up a text message confirming a recent deposit, and held it out for the agent to see.
The agent squinted and carefully counted the digits. Good heavens, ten of them!
’If he could sell this villa, he’d be set for life.’
Summoning every ounce of his professional energy, he made an inviting gesture. "Of course. Please, follow me to the VIP room. I’ll go prepare the contract right away."
