Chapter 54: Chapter 30: Cashback Artifact and a Mahjong Invitation from Zhou Jiawen
When Jiang Li woke up, Shen Yanzhi was already gone.
She fumbled for her phone on the nightstand. A glance at the time showed it was 11:30 AM, and she shot up in bed, startled.
The blanket slid off her, revealing her fair skin.
Even though she was the only one in the room, Jiang Li instinctively pulled the blanket around herself.
Her WeChat was flooded with messages from Zhong Mufeng. The latest one, sent five minutes ago, told her to get back to her as soon as she woke up.
Jiang Li rubbed the tip of her nose, picked up the insulated tumbler from the nightstand, and took a long sip of warm water. Feeling her throat was much better, she then started a voice call with Zhong Mufeng.
The call connected instantly, and Zhong Mufeng’s voice burst through. "Good lord, just how wild were you two last night? You actually slept until almost noon!"
Jiang Li was incredibly relieved she had made it a voice call instead of a video call. If Zhong Mufeng saw the state she was in, her teasing would be even more unbearable.
Recalling the blush-inducing moments from the night before, Jiang Li cleared her throat. "Is this the only reason you’re calling me?"
Zhong Mufeng giggled. "Not entirely. I was just curious to see how late you’d sleep in."
Jiang Li couldn’t help but roll her eyes. ’And here I was, thinking she had something important to discuss, but it was just this.’
’What a complete waste of my time.’
Perhaps sensing Jiang Li’s silent exasperation, Zhong Mufeng said, "Let me tell you, eating breakfast with your man, Shen, this morning was incredibly stressful."
Jiang Li put the call on speaker, wrapped the blanket tightly around herself, and then got out of bed, phone in hand. "He’s not going to eat you. You’re exaggerating."
Zhong Mufeng’s teasing voice rang out, "He practically devoured you last night, and you still say he doesn’t eat people?"
Jiang Li stumbled and nearly fell. Mortified, she snapped, "Can we have a normal conversation for once?!"
Zhong Mufeng laughed like the cat that got the cream. "Oh, come on! We’re all adults here. What’s wrong with a little adult conversation?"
Jiang Li narrowed her eyes. "Fine, then. Let’s talk about adult topics."
"So, how do you take care of your needs?"
Zhong Mufeng was taken aback for a second, then replied, "How else? With the help of some... external tools, of course."
After all, she was an adult. Having needs was perfectly normal, and there was nothing to be ashamed of. At least it was cleaner and more hygienic than men paying for services outside.
Zhong Mufeng’s answer took Jiang Li by surprise. The two of them had never discussed such explicit topics before, and she hadn’t expected her to be so frank.
But before Jiang Li could even process that, Zhong Mufeng asked with a wicked grin, "Do you need me to recommend a few toys for couples to use in the bedroom?"
Jiang Li’s immediate response was, "HELL NO!!!"
’Are you kidding me? My back is already killing me as it is.’
’If we used toys, would I even be able to get out of bed?’
Despite Jiang Li’s refusal, Zhong Mufeng continued her enthusiastic sales pitch. "Don’t be so quick to resist. They feel amazing."
Jiang Li was horrified. "No, I really don’t need them!"
She tossed the blanket back onto the bed, then went into the bathroom to wash up. On the way, she sent a message to Xie Wan, asking her to have the chef prepare breakfast.
Zhong Mufeng went into full-on domineering CEO mode. "No. I think you need them."
Just as Jiang Li was about to break down, she pressed, "How about I just buy a couple for you?"
Jiang Li finally surrendered. "Ancestor, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have asked you that question."
Zhong Mufeng hmphed triumphantly. "So now you know what to ask and what not to ask, right?"
Jiang Li nodded frantically. "I know, I know."
She didn’t dare to imagine what would happen if she said she didn’t.
Hearing the sounds of Jiang Li getting ready, Zhong Mufeng suddenly asked, "What are your plans for today?"
She spit out the water in her mouth and answered, "Nothing much. I’ll grab some breakfast, then follow up on some company business."
Hearing her mention the company, Zhong Mufeng asked curiously, "The company is already registered?"
"Yep. It was registered yesterday afternoon, and we’ve already finalized the office location."
Zhong Mufeng marveled, "Wow, Liu Qian works fast."
’Then again,’ she thought, ’with a six-figure monthly salary and five other people vying for the position, you’d have to work hard to prove yourself.’
"Alright. When you have your grand opening, I’ll be sure to send you two huge floral arrangements."
The two chatted idly for a while longer. Jiang Li didn’t hang up until she had finished getting ready, gone downstairs, and sat down in the dining room, ready to eat.
Because it was brunch and Jiang Li had requested it on short notice, the kitchen prepared a deluxe seafood fried rice. It was served with her favorite side dishes: hot and sour shredded potatoes and pickled cucumbers.
