Chapter 4: Chapter 2: Ten-Digit Cashback, Cartier 1895

"And what makes you so sure no one wants to marry Jiang Li?"

Just as Jiang Li was about to rush forward and confront Liu Mei, Shen Yanzhi stepped in front of her and demanded coldly.

Liu Mei looked over. "Who are you?"

Shen Yanzhi took a marriage certificate out of his suit pocket. "Jiang Li’s legal husband."

At his words, everyone’s expressions shifted.

Jiang Li’s parents, in particular, had long since grown tired of Zhao Sinian’s family. For years, they had been like bloodsucking leeches, and now, right before the wedding, they were demanding another 500,000 for the dowry.

Seeing the marriage certificate in Shen Yanzhi’s possession and the shy look on Jiang Li’s face, they immediately understood the situation.

Jiang Bowen and Jing Shiyun walked over, one after the other. The more they looked at him, the more pleased they were. "Son-in-law."

Shen Yanzhi didn’t hesitate, immediately calling out, "Dad, Mom."

He then took a wallet from his inner suit pocket, pulled out a bank card, and said respectfully, "I know this was all rather sudden, and I took the liberty of registering our marriage with Jiang Li without your consent. This is the bride price from me. My parents are on their way and will be here shortly."

Look at his attitude, and then look at the Zhao family.

A bride price of a mere 10,001 was one thing, but they also had the nerve to demand a dowry of 1,000,000.

The contrast was infuriating.

Jiang Bowen reached out and patted Shen Yanzhi’s shoulder, decisively accepting the bank card. "Good son-in-law, then we’ll accept this dowry on Xiao Li’s behalf."

No matter how much money was on the card, it was the gesture from Shen Yanzhi that counted.

Liu Mei stormed over, demanding, "What is the meaning of this?"

Jiang Bowen snorted coldly. "What else could it mean? From now on, our two families have nothing to do with each other."

Liu Mei immediately shrieked, "How can this be? That Jiang Li is the Zhao family’s bride! She belongs to the Zhao family in life and she’ll belong to them in death!"

Jiang Li gave a cold laugh. "Ms. Liu, I suppose your precious son didn’t tell you that we never officially registered our marriage."

"Besides, this is the 21st century, not the Qing Dynasty. ’Belonging to the Zhao family in life and death’... Did they bind your feet, or was it your brain?"

In the past, out of respect for her being Zhao Sinian’s mother, Jiang Li had always patiently endured Liu Mei’s abuse, no matter how bad it got.

’Now that I have nothing to do with Zhao Sinian, there’s no reason to coddle her anymore!’

"This is outrageous! Utterly outrageous!" she shrieked, pointing a finger in Zhao Sinian’s face. "Look at the kind of wife you picked out! She dares to treat me this way before the wedding; imagine what she’ll be like once you’re married!"

Jiang Li smiled. "That’s not something you need to worry about."

Zhao Sinian snatched the marriage certificate from Shen Yanzhi’s hand and studied it carefully.

Seeing the official embossed seal of the Civil Affairs Bureau, he stared at Jiang Li in utter disbelief. "Jiang Li! You actually went and married him!"

Jiang Li scoffed. "You had the audacity to demand more dowry money on the spot. Why shouldn’t I have the right to marry someone else?"

Before the Zhao family could speak, Jiang Li said in a firm voice, "If you want to attend our wedding, you are welcome. If you insist on making a scene here, then I won’t hesitate to hire a lawyer to get back all the money we’ve given you over the years."

’Today is my wedding to Shen Yanzhi. I’m not going to let the Zhao family ruin it.’

Zhao Sinian frowned and demanded, "Jiang Li, do you have to be so ruthless?"

Tired of wrangling with the Zhao family, Jiang Li texted the manager and asked him to send some people down.

Jiang Bowen’s anger flared up again. With his hands on his hips, he roared, "Have you no shame, saying something like that? You’re the ones who were ruthless first, and now you have the gall to blame us."

With that, he strode over and slapped Liu Mei hard across the face several times. "And you! You know damn well how you’ve tormented my daughter these past few years. If I wasn’t afraid of making things difficult for her as your future daughter-in-law, I would have dealt with you long ago. You still dare to cause trouble now? Do you really think I, Jiang Bowen, am a pushover you can bully!"

This was the first time Jiang Li had seen such an assertive side of Jiang Bowen. She was a bit startled, but more than that, she was deeply moved.

’It’s true. In the end, your parents are the only ones who truly love you.’

’They would rather suffer themselves than let their children be wronged.’

The manager, having received Jiang Li’s text, had already rushed over with his men. Before Liu Mei could start making a scene, they lined up uniformly in front of Jiang Li. "Miss Jiang."

Jiang Li pointed at Zhao Sinian and his family. "They’re trying to cause trouble. Get them out of here."

His eyes bloodshot, Zhao Sinian roared, "Jiang Li! You’ve been cheating on me all this time, haven’t you!"

Jiang Li rolled her eyes, clearly having no desire to answer such a moronic question.
