Zhao Sinian shot to his feet, his eyes red with fury. "Zhong Mufeng! Will you ever let it go?!"
After all his years with Jiang Li, the person he detested most was her best friend, Zhong Mufeng.
If Zhong Mufeng hadn’t always been meddling, he and Jiang Li would probably have been married long ago.
Zhong Mufeng straightened up. "What now? You think you’re going to hit me?"
"Li is married now. They say a good ex should be like a dead one. If you have any sense, you’ll stop showing your face around her."
Jiang Li’s eyes flickered. ’That’s my best friend for you,’ she thought. ’I don’t even have to lift a finger.’
Zheng Qi nodded in agreement. "Exactly. The nerve of him, coming here to beg for forgiveness. If he wants to be a homewrecker, he should take a good look at himself first."
Just then, another man stood up and spoke apologetically, "Jiang, I’m sorry."
Jiang Li was completely baffled. ’I barely know the guy, so what is he apologizing for?’
The man scratched his head awkwardly. "I, uh, took a picture of you earlier and posted it on my Moments. He’s a friend of mine on WeChat, and he saw it. He said he was your boyfriend, that you two just had a little misunderstanding, but you’d blocked all his contact info so he couldn’t reach you. He asked me to send him the location."
’No wonder he was apologizing,’ Jiang Li thought. ’He definitely had something to be sorry for.’
’If he hadn’t taken matters into his own hands, Zhao Sinian wouldn’t be here ruining the mood, and I wouldn’t be the center of all this drama.’
Jiang Li waved a hand dismissively. "It’s fine. No harm done if you didn’t know."
With that, she pressed a button on the side of the table. A waitress in uniform entered almost immediately, asking respectfully, "Good evening, esteemed guests. Is there anything I can help you with?"
Jiang Li pointed at Zhao Sinian. "Please escort him out. He’s not with us."
The waitress walked over and made a gesture. "Sir, please leave."
Zhao Sinian said brazenly, "I’m her boyfriend. Don’t listen to her nonsense."
Zheng Qi rolled her eyes. "I have truly never met anyone so shameless."
"Miss, please get him out of here. He’s completely ruining our meal."
The waitress spoke again. "Sir, if you don’t leave now, I’ll have to call security."
Zhao Sinian clenched his jaw, his face ashen as he stared at Jiang Li. "Jiang Li, I’m not giving up."
Jiang Li ignored him, took her phone out of her purse, and sent a text to Jiang Yuemo, describing what Zhao Sinian had just done and what she suspected.
’Since Zhao Sinian was going to be shameless, there was no reason for her to hold back.’
Seeing Jiang Li looking down at her phone, Zhong Mufeng tugged on her sleeve worriedly. "Li, are you okay?"
Jiang Li looked up, locked her phone, and patted Zhong Mufeng’s arm gently. "I’m fine."
Then she stood up, putting on a pleasant smile. "You guys go ahead and eat. I’m just going to the restroom."
Zhong Mufeng, still worried, started to follow, but Guo Yao grabbed her by the wrist. "Are you a puppy or something? Following your master wherever she goes."
Zhong Mufeng nodded. "That’s right. I’m Jiang Li’s dog for life. If she tells me to go east, I go east."
Guo Yao sneered, "I don’t know if Jiang Li saved your life or what, to make you debase yourself like this."
Zhong Mufeng rolled her eyes, not bothering to waste another word on Guo Yao.
’It wasn’t just that Jiang Li had bought her a house and a car. As her best friend, when she needed her, being there was a duty she couldn’t shirk.’
But by the time Zhong Mufeng rushed out, the hallway was empty. There was no trace of Jiang Li. She could only follow the signs for the restroom.
But after leaving the private room, Jiang Li hadn’t gone to the restroom. She went straight downstairs to the front desk and asked to see the owner.
’It didn’t take a genius to figure out that Zhao Sinian knew she was eating here and would definitely be waiting for her outside.’
’She’d already been planning to acquire this restaurant anyway. She might as well take this opportunity... and squeeze Zhao Sinian for some more money while she was at it.’
When Jiang Li announced she wanted to acquire the restaurant, the receptionist was stunned. Still, she remained composed and called the manager. "Ma’am, please wait a moment."
So as not to disturb anyone, Jiang Li moved to the waiting area and took a seat.
After about five minutes, a man in a black suit came striding over.
His tone was skeptical. "Young lady, you’re the one who wants to acquire the restaurant?"
Jiang Li looked him up and down. "Are you the owner?"
’His aura didn’t quite seem right. He seemed more like a manager than an owner.’
The man pursed his lips. "The owner will be here shortly. He asked me to come over first to get an idea of the situation."
Jiang Li nodded in understanding. "Name your price. As long as we can complete the acquisition today."
