Chapter 27: Chapter 21: Fangirl Zheng Qi, Poor Liu Qian
"Honey, you could speed up a bit, you know. Even the cyclists are passing us."
On the road, Zhong Mufeng was driving at a mere 30 kilometers an hour, and Jiang Li just couldn’t watch anymore.
Zhong Mufeng said with a miserable expression, "It’s mostly because this car is so expensive. I’m afraid if I scratch or dent it, I won’t be able to afford the repairs."
’Over five million! If it got bumped or scratched, where would she get the money to fix it?’
Jiang Li pressed a hand to her forehead. "Seriously, who on earth would dare to hit a car like this?"
Forget about hitting it; other drivers were practically scrambling to put a hundred or two hundred meters between them, terrified of having to pay for any damages.
With an emblem that large, and in such a distinct color, anyone with eyes in their head would keep their distance.
They stopped at a red light, and Zhong Mufeng glanced around. Sure enough, the cars in front, behind, and to her sides were all keeping a wide berth.
She couldn’t help but grin. "Well, this is my first time driving a Maybach. I’ll speed up when the light turns green. I guarantee you’ll have a great ride!"
Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. "You’d better."
Zhong Mufeng was true to her word. The moment the light turned green, she floored the gas and shot forward at 100 kilometers an hour.
In just over ten minutes, she pulled the car up smoothly in front of the hotel.
She killed the engine and looked over at Jiang Li, her expression pleading for a compliment. "So? How were my driving skills? Not too bad, huh?"
Jiang Li gave her a thumbs-up in approval. "Not bad. A passing grade."
Aside from her initial crawling at a turtle’s pace, the rest of the ride had been pretty good.
She lifted her wrist to check her watch. It was just a few minutes before twelve; they had arrived right on time.
An attendant operated the elevator, which required a keycard to access the upper floors, meaning not just anyone could go up.
Getting into the elevator, Jiang Li nodded. "Hello, Private Room 888."
"Of course."
The elevator attendant pressed the button for the fifth floor, and a moment later, with a DING, the doors slid open.
After stepping out of the elevator and making sure no one was nearby, Zhong Mufeng sighed in admiration. "This really is the most luxurious restaurant. Even the elevator is incredibly fast."
Jiang Li nodded. "It really is."
’If I could buy it, I could use it as my own private kitchen in the future.’
’Although I have more money than I could ever spend and part of me just wants to coast...’
’...the System will be gone one day. I have to plan for the future. I can’t really do nothing and just burn through all my savings.’
The next moment, a white robot appeared before them as silently as a ghost. "Hello, valued guests. May I ask which private room you’re looking for?"
Zhong Mufeng jumped in fright, clutching her chest. Jiang Li calmly replied, "888."
"Please follow me." With that, the robot turned and began to glide toward the private room.
Zhong Mufeng clicked her tongue in amazement. "Jeez, they even have robots. The owner of this Guomao Restaurant really has some vision."
Jiang Li gave a small smile. "How else could Guomao have become so successful?"
Then she asked Zhong Mufeng a bombshell of a question. "So, what do you think? How much would it cost to buy Guomao?"
Zhong Mufeng actually stumbled. "My god, girl. I know you’re rich, but this is Guomao we’re talking about. Buying it out would cost a fortune."
She thought for a moment, then gave an estimate. "At least tens of billions, maybe even a hundred billion or more."
’Tens or hundreds of billions?’
’Hardly a problem.’
’With a cash-back whiz like Shen Yanzhi, tens or hundreds of billions could be in my account in a matter of minutes.’
’Besides, the balance in my bank account already has more digits than I have fingers. Buying Guomao would be a piece of cake.’
As they spoke, the robot stopped. "Valued guests, we have arrived at Private Room 888."
Without Jiang Li even needing to say a word, Zhong Mufeng proactively pushed the door open and went inside.
The private room was huge, able to accommodate nearly fifty people, and it even had a separate game room and media lounge.
The first thing they saw was a large round table. It seemed they were the only ones to arrive right on the dot; the table was nearly full, with only three or four empty seats left.
The moment the two of them entered, they drew the eyes of everyone in the room. A man in a sharp suit stood up to greet them, his voice full of warmth. "Miss Jiang, University Scholar Zhong, welcome, welcome! Your presence truly brightens up the whole room."
Jiang Li waved a dismissive hand. "Not at all, not at all. You’re giving us too much credit."
Her gaze swept around the room, and she realized that aside from Guo Yao, she didn’t recognize a single other person.
Most of the men were in suits, while the women were all dressed to the nines.
It was supposed to be a class reunion, but anyone who didn’t know better would have mistaken it for a massive matchmaking event.
Just then, another woman stood up and waved at Jiang Li. "Jiang Li, I wonder if you still remember me."
Jiang Li awkwardly rubbed the tip of her nose and glanced at Zhong Mufeng, silently pleading for a rescue.
