Chapter 13: Chapter 7: When You Meet the Right Person, It’s Never Too Soon or Too Late to Marry

Unable to pay the bill, Shen Yanzhi put his phone away and remarked, half amused and half exasperated, "I’m starting to think you really enjoy spending money."

Jiang Li paused for a moment. "It’s not that I enjoy spending money."

Just as Shen Yanzhi was about to speak, she broke into a charming smile and added, "I enjoy spending money on *you*."

Shen Yanzhi swallowed hard, relieved he wasn’t drinking water just then, or he would have spat it all over Jiang Li’s face.

He really wanted to ask Jiang Li if she said such touching sweet nothings to all her partners.

But before he could ask, Jiang Li had already put on her overcoat and scarf. "Let’s go," she urged. "It’s getting late."

Shen Yanzhi let out a silent sigh and fell into step behind Jiang Li.

Since they had both had red wine, and Jiang Li’s car only had two seats, they decided that Shen Yanzhi would take a cab home while Jiang Li called for a designated driver.

It was nearly midnight by the time Jiang Li arrived back at the villa.

Even though she had already seen videos and pictures of the villa, she was still awestruck upon seeing it in person.

From the outside, it looked like a sprawling manor with a classical, antique charm.

It was a collision of Chinese and modern design, imbued with a Song dynasty aesthetic.

The villa had four stories in total. The basement was a parking garage, the other three floors were zoned for different functions, and the roof even had a helipad.

Once the designated driver left, Jiang Li took the elevator from the basement up to the first floor.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, a woman in a professional uniform was waiting for her. She appeared to be in her thirties, her makeup impeccably applied. "Miss Jiang, welcome home. I am your and Mr. Shen’s personal butler, Xie Wan. You can call me Xiao Xie."

She had learned from Liu Bo that although the villa was registered in Shen Yanzhi’s name, Jiang Li was the one who had paid for it.

In other words, she just needed to ensure Jiang Li was well taken care of.

After all, they were a bona fide married couple.

As Jiang Li stared in shock, Xie Wan continued, "All the clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry that were delivered from the shops have been placed in the walk-in closet in your bedroom. The rest of the daily necessities are in the bathroom’s wall cabinet."

The corner of Jiang Li’s mouth twitched. "You work fast."

’I thought I’d have to sort through that huge mess when I got back, but it looks like Xie Wan didn’t give me the chance.’

Xie Wan modestly waved it off. "I can’t take all the credit. My colleagues helped as well."

Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. ’That makes sense,’ she thought. ’A villa this huge couldn’t possibly have just one butler. There must be chefs, chauffeurs, gardeners, and other staff.’

But she was now more curious about whether her purchases had managed to fill the entire walk-in closet. "Where is our bedroom?"

Xie Wan gestured for her to proceed. "Allow me to show you upstairs."

Jiang Li, who had just exited the elevator, stepped back inside and watched Xie Wan press the button for the third floor.

The suite was to the right of the elevator and was approximately 300 square meters.

It had a separate bathroom, a shower room, and a walk-in closet, as well as a large balcony outside that overlooked the entire Capital City.

The city lights twinkled like brilliant fireworks, a truly beautiful sight.

Jiang Li pulled her gaze away from the view and turned to Xie Wan, who was standing ramrod straight beside her. "You can head down and get some rest."

Xie Wan nodded and pulled her phone from her suit pocket. "Miss Jiang, shall we exchange contact information? That way, you can reach me immediately if you need anything."

Jiang Li nodded in agreement. After they added each other on WeChat and exchanged phone numbers, Xie Wan finally took her leave.

The moment Xie Wan was gone, Jiang Li dashed into the walk-in closet.

In a suite of over 300 square meters, the walk-in closet alone took up almost half the space.

Seeing that the clothes filled less than a third of the racks, Jiang Li sighed out loud, "I really didn’t buy enough."

She rubbed her chin and muttered to herself, "’Good thing I got contact info for several of the sales associates. I’ll just select clothes online next time. Let’s see how Shen Yanzhi tries to refuse me then.’"

Besides the clothes, the jewelry cabinets weren’t full either.

The entire closet was probably designed with a couple in mind, as it was split into two halves with clearly designated sections. There were even two separate jewelry cabinets, so there was no risk of mixing up their belongings.

No wonder people online always say, "You get what you pay for."

After coming out of the walk-in closet, Jiang Li took another look around the entire suite.

Then, she was surprised to find a smaller room attached to the main one, containing only a bed and a small, functional bathroom.

Wondering when Shen Yanzhi would get back, Jiang Li finished her inspection, grabbed a set of pajamas from the closet, and headed for the shower room.

’Even though I don’t have work tomorrow, today was exhausting. I want to get to bed early.’

But just as she finished her shower and was about to go to the vanity to dry her hair, she saw Shen Yanzhi walk out of the smaller room, a bath towel wrapped around his waist as he dried his hair with another.

Jiang Li froze, her eyes instantly drawn to the sight of his smooth, broad chest.

’I never expected Shen Yanzhi to be the type who looks lean in clothes but is ripped underneath.’

’Those pecs... those abs...’

Shen Yanzhi paused his hand, which was drying his hair. His eyes darkened, and his Adam’s apple bobbed. "Like what you see?"

Jiang Li nodded numbly. "Very much!"

The moment she realized what she’d said, her face flushed crimson. She looked down, feigning busyness. "I... I’m just going to dry my hair."

Shen Yanzhi tossed the towel onto a nearby stool and walked over to Jiang Li. "Can I help you dry it?"

Jiang Li swallowed hard. "O-Okay."

’I mean, seriously, who could possibly say no when the person you’ve had a crush on for years is standing half-naked in front of you, offering to dry your hair?!’

’It’s just... making me a little hot and bothered.’

Jiang Li sat down on the stool, and Shen Yanzhi stood behind her. He held a lock of her hair in one hand and the blow-dryer in the other, his expression utterly focused.

Jiang Li touched her hot cheeks and asked, "Why did you get back so much later than I did?"

Shen Yanzhi cleared his throat. "I stopped to buy something on the way."

Jiang Li was puzzled but didn’t press the issue. Watching the reflection of Shen Yanzhi diligently drying her hair in the mirror, she said, "Since we’re both off tomorrow, we should go visit your parents."

’Our marriage was so sudden. We have to go see them; it’s the proper thing to do.’

Shen Yanzhi’s hand stilled for a moment, and his Adam’s apple bobbed. "Okay."

Jiang Li bit her lip. "You also have a brother, right? I remember hearing that."

’It’s our first official visit, so we have to bring gifts.’

’And if we’re buying gifts, I need to know who’s in the family.’

’I’d only ever heard rumors that he had a younger brother, but I’ve never met him, so I don’t know if it’s true.’

"Yeah." Then, he added hastily, "But he got married last year."

Jiang Li blinked. "Wow, married young!"

Then she added with a sigh, "That’s not very cool of your brother, though. He got married before you, his own older brother."

Shen Yanzhi looked up, his eyes meeting Jiang Li’s in the mirror. "When you meet the right person, there’s no such thing as too early or too late."
