Chapter 43: Chapter 43 I’m Back!

The head chef slowly glanced at the collapsed kitchen, and as if the kitchen wanted to protest more, a wooden beam at the top fell to the ground with a loud noise.

The chef quickly lowered his head. "We will make sure the food will be served as soon as possible."

Lie Lang stared down at him. "Hmm." He said, the thick sound vibrating through his chest.

With one last glance at the kitchen and the cooks around, he turned around, walking away.

The chef quickly wiped the cold bead of sweat from his temple, but stopped midway the moment he saw Lie Lang staring at him from a few steps away.

Lie Lang turned towards Honghong, who was already tiptoeing away from the scene. "You. Come with me." He said curtly, his golden eyes pinning Honghong in the spot as if she was being crushed by a mountain.

"Yes, Alpha," Honghong replied, crying inwardly.

After walking behind him for a long time, Honghong clasped her feather-like fingers together. Glancing at the Alpha wolf in front of her. If she ran now, she wouldn’t survive... ’I don’t know if Xue Yao is still alive... wait, she must be; the master servant bond is still intact... should I beg him to make a contract bond with me instead... as long as he is more powerful than the human, breaking the established bond is doable... I like the reckless human, but I have to save my neck... I need to survive.’ Honghong thought inwardly.

"The human..." Lie Lang said, his words pulling Honghong out of her sea of thought.

"Yes." Honghong immediately answered.

"How were you subdued by the human?" Lie Lang asked with his hands clasped behind his back.

Honghong lowered her head. Being subdued by a human who was not even at the first level of cultivation was like salt to her wound.

The beasts are proud and normally would never form a master-servant relationship bond with a human. Honghong’s shoulders slumped.

The memory of their battle flickered through her eyes. "She has different weapons... strange weapons. I couldn’t win against those weapons... so to save my life... I submitted to be her servant."

Lie Lang remained silent after hearing Honghong’s explanation. He did not ask another question, nor did he show any reaction on his face, but deep inside, he quietly pondered on it.

Strange weapons... those two words lingered in his mind. He remembered the roasted Rock Rabbit Han Luo had brought back, the human’s fearless attitude despite possessing almost no cultivation, and how she had somehow managed to subdue a spiritual beast without relying on spiritual energy. None of it made sense.

The more he thought about Bai Xue Yao, the more mysterious she became. She was either the luckiest fool he had ever met... or she was hiding secrets far greater than he had originally imagined. For now, however, he chose not to pursue the matter further. He would investigate everything himself.

Honghong quietly followed several steps behind him, her large claws tapping lightly against the stone floor. Ever since leaving the kitchen, she had been thinking about nothing else but survival. ’The Alpha is a S-level beast... if I asked him to become my master instead, perhaps he could forcibly sever my contract with Xue Yao...’

The thought only remained in her mind for a moment before she immediately shook her head. ’No, no... although the human is reckless, shameless, and always dragging me into trouble, she cooks really delicious food...’ Honghong swallowed unconsciously before another thought appeared. ’But this wolf is much stronger...’ She looked at Lie Lang’s broad back before lowering her head again. ’Forget it... I’ll think about it after I see whether she is still alive.’

Not long afterward, Lie Lang stopped in front of a familiar wooden door. Without saying a single word, he pushed it open and stepped aside.

Honghong curiously stretched her long neck forward.

The next moment... Her entire body froze.

Lying peacefully in the middle of the large bed was Xue Yao. She was wrapped tightly inside the blanket with her long black hair spread messily across the pillow, sleeping so deeply that even the sunlight shining through the window had failed to wake her. There wasn’t the slightest sign of injury on her body, and her gentle breathing rose and fell rhythmically.

For several seconds, Honghong simply stared.

The worry she had buried inside her heart for the past few days suddenly burst out all at once. Her eyes instantly turned red as tears gathered at the corners. She had truly believed she would never see this reckless human again.

"Xue Yao..." she called softly before her voice suddenly rose several octaves. "XUE YAO!"

Unable to contain her excitement any longer, Honghong immediately shrank into her tiny bird form and shot toward the bed like a streak of red light. Her little wings flapped so quickly that they became a blur as she flew straight toward Xue Yao.

"Xue Yao! I’m back! I’m finally back!" she cried excitedly, tears still hanging from the corners of her tiny eyes as she spread her wings, intending to throw herself into Xue Yao’s embrace.

Just before she could touch her...

Bang!

A fist suddenly burst out from beneath the blanket with astonishing speed.

Honghong never even saw it coming. The fist slammed into her, sending her tiny body flying backward like a shooting star before crashing directly into the opposite wall with a loud thud.

"Oooo..." She slowly slid down onto the floor, her body completely flattened for a brief moment before returning to normal. Tiny golden stars circled above her dizzy head as her eyes spun in opposite directions.

Meanwhile... Xue Yao merely frowned in her sleep. "...Mosquito..."

She lazily rubbed one ear before turning onto her side and pulling the blanket higher over her shoulder, as though nothing unusual had happened.

Lie Lang silently watched the entire scene unfold.

"..."

For the first time since meeting this strange human, he only felt more intrigued.
