Chapter 67: Blood Trail Battle

Even after the tense formation was set, the monsters still continued charging, dashing towards the walls like they only had one mission in mind.

Attack. Attack. Attack.

No matter what response the target might be planning to give.

And soon, the monsters had come so close that Master Norman and Sylvester were able to recognise them.

"Wood-backed Hyenas," Master Norman said, and Sylvester nodded.

It had taken up to thirty seconds before a couple of the monsters reached the gates, and those by the watch post had begun raining attacks at them to slow down the impact.

BAAAM.

BOOOM!

VAAAAM.

WOOOF...!

Serious varieties of energy strikes clashed against the atmosphere as the chaos rose, and even though, it did not stop the other monsters from breaking through.

The walls of Blood Trail Outpost unfortunately weren’t strong enough to hold up the joint impacts, and soon, a considerable amount of Wood-backed Hyenas were already inside the walls.

This was where Master Norman, Sylvester, and the rest had to come in. With the others, they faced the crowd of charging monsters as the clash began.

The main goal was not to let them get any further into the village to destroy anything else, or else the loss they already had would be pretty small compared to the ones that would be caused later on.

Master Norman was on one side with a group, and Sylvester was on another side. When the Wood-backed Hyenas charged forward, they conjured a lot of strikes that took dozens of the monsters down, however, they were only given a second to breathe.

Another swarm of the monsters came, and this time it even appeared that they were larger.

Due to the fact that the Wood-backed Hyenas were Ordinary Monsters, the best of the Entrants like Sylvester and Norman hadn’t found it difficult to take care of several targets, and even though the numbers increased, it was just an increased level of trial for them.

In over thirty minutes, a hundred Wood-backed Hyenas had fallen, but at that point what was important to them wasn’t the EXP they could have or the fact that they had survived.

Their main concern was that it wasn’t over, due to the reports that came from the men on the watch posts.

"More monsters! They are bigger! They seem to be... Extraordinary!"

Sylvester and Norman had their eyes widened as they quickly rushed to the top of the post. There, they watched and saw several giant figures approaching from the distance, their heights so tall that they could be seen over the walls of the outpost.

"Warden... What have you done?" Sylvester muttered as an undeniable look of panic appeared on his face.

They all knew what this could mean when the Head had that face, and if all of them weren’t panicking, they were just trying to accept the death that was coming.

"What do we do, sir?" Master Norman asked.

Out of them all, he was the only one who still maintained a calm face. It wasn’t really that calm, but it was enough to show that he was ready to do whatever it took to save this community.

After the cavalry men returned the corpses, Master Norman had already pledged that this city would no longer be in the hands of the Citadel, whether Sylvester accepted that or not.

He already knew that Sylvester had never been okay and was very pained by what had happened, but he still knew that he was trying to stay loyal.

Norman understood what loyalty meant, and now he had come to realise that the Citadel and its authority didn’t deserve the loyalty of Blood Trail Outpost.

And now, he was ready to go against every decision that the Head made that wouldn’t benefit the community.

The death of those four people was already a lesson.

When Norman asked Sylvester what they could do, it was pretty obvious that he had no idea what to say. He was only driven by shock and worry, with the extent of confusion that only made his head spin.

At that point, he was the most inactive leader in the Badlands!

Norman then decided to take it upon himself to make the decision. He ordered the Entrants with the Archer and Ranger Professions to run up to the walls, as it would be important for long-range attacks before the monsters got too close.

There were only thirteen figures summing up both Professions, and even though they were very few, Norman believed that their service could still be really useful at least.

Then he ordered the rest of the Entrants to settle in groups at every point on the north wall, where the monsters were coming from.

That way, a group could be able to face one monster at a time, and perhaps the battle might just be preferable that way.

"You should head back to your quarters. You are in shock. You shouldn’t be here," Master Norman told Sylvester, who was still standing at the top of the watch post, his eyes still on the approaching terrors.

He shook his head repeatedly before his lips moved.

"These are my people. I have to defend them at this time of need. I have to fight with them. Therefore, I am going nowhere," Sylvester said.

"But you don’t seem alright. You just have to leave the job for me. I promise to handle it in the best possible way that I can. Since they are Extraordinary, we just need to have the perfect formation of groups to take them down," Norman said.

He made sure to maintain the reassuring look on his face, and at that point, Sylvester just decided to listen.

He was escorted by one of the men to his chambers, as he couldn’t seem to walk properly at that time.

His eyes were already crowded with tension and worry.

When the Head was gone, they all saw Master Norman as their leader. Actually, they already saw him as their leader, but now, it looked different.

More official. Stronger.

Master Norman had always been that figure that guided every newbie right from the Day of the Red Zenith to the day they decided that they didn’t need any more lessons.

He was highly respected and had been a role model for many, and even Sylvester had never denied that.

"Now! Attack!"

Norman ordered the long-rangers on the watch posts to begin their strikes after a while, and the chaos continued right immediately.

What was to be expected from a Ranger and an Archer?

Accurate aim and arrow strikes?

Massive stone throws with definite accuracy?

Well, there was more to that, because even a Ranger could use an arrow, and they could use it even better!

However, it wouldn’t be all fun when both groups used the same weapon. What if it didn’t happen to be effective enough?

A couple of Rangers had the ability to ignite offensive objects with fire and other destructive energies, and well, that was all they had for Entrants with average Academic Standards.

Stones, arrows, and metals infused with energies began to rain on the monsters, and most of these strikes landed on the targets.

However, more were still needed, because even after many strikes, no monster was seen dropping to the ground.

Instead, they raged faster and approached the walls angrily like they had wanted to do this gently but had been forced to do it the hardest way possible. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Norman’s formed groups were already waiting at every point, and as the wall came collapsing before them, they were already attacking.

RRROOOOOR!!!

Soon, the sounds of roars, screams, and blasts could be heard all around the outpost, and only around the outpost because the nearest neighbouring couple was several miles away.

They were alone, and they had to defend their community alone.

Norman faced off with one of the monsters on his own, going solo fearlessly, and when he had taken down one of the monsters after almost fifteen minutes of insane battle, he had sustained several injuries.

Most of the groups had done a great job rivalling the monsters, but most of them had failed due to reasons that Norman didn’t know, and despite the pain, he still went for them.

Norman fought and fought until it felt like his vitality was leaving him. He would find it hard to breathe, but he would see a dying youngster at the edge and decide that it was his responsibility to protect him.

All that happened with Norman sustaining even more injuries, and even while staggering, he still stood and fought.

Even the monsters had their attention drawn to him, as they noticed the man that just wouldn’t back down.

Within a matter of hours, Norman and the rest of the Entrants who were ready to fight till the end had already taken down most of the Extraordinary monsters, but then when they already felt relieved, believing that they were becoming victorious...

"More monsters!"

And at that point, Master Norman fell to his knees with a smile of frustration and disbelief in his eyes.

"Holy hell..."

"Is this how this community falls?"
