Chapter 80: Undead, Undead, More... Undead!
Rachel had managed to sneak out with Bella, this was slowly coming to an end and Rachel hoped that everything would work out. freewёbnoνel.com
She crossed her fingers but she understood that something was going to happen that would ultimately decide their fate.
She also worried about her sister but she was safer there than she was here, Lillian also had enough weapons to defend herself.
"Rachel, do you think Sam will kill me?" Bella asked, Rachel was furious with her because she was the reason they were in this mess.
She wanted to abandon her before, it was because of Jason that she was here and even with that, Bella managed to betray the one person that gave her the benefit of the doubt.
"I don’t understand him myself but Clementine has some control over him so just hope she comes out of this alive..." Rachel said but Rachel had one thing bothering her.
If the apocalypse just started, how did this place seem like it has been like this for quite some time?
It was too soon, even in a month but she knew that now wasn’t the time to ask such questions but this wasn’t a coincidence. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
"How long has the apocalypse been going on?" Bella asked outright, she had to make small talk and knew this was the best topic as it wasn’t personal.
"It has been a couple of weeks, they thought it was some variant of rabid at first..." Bella paused, she was conscious of her words as she wondered if she would slip away when all this is over or something else.
"I don’t know how long it has been but the government has kept it contained as they didn’t want to cause a panic but that only made it spread faster because, without information, there was no way others could combat it..." Bella said.
"I met these people here, and I figured it was the safest place to be if they survived this long. The military has been stationed here, they trapped us within this city to contain the spread of whatever this is... But there’s something that most don’t know..." Bella said, pausing.
She had Bella’s attention and knew now was the time to deliver the punchline but she also knew that the more she knew and they didn’t, the more valuable she was to them.
"That kid back there... He wasn’t bitten by a zombie..." Bella said and Rachel raised a brow.
This was a drastic change in the conversation but she welcomed it.
"What do you mean?" Rachel asked Bella.
"He wasn’t bitten, his father did that to him for this very reason. He knew that if people thought he was bitten but not turned, then they were more likely to protect him," Bella spilt the beans.
It did make sense, and was quite smart on the father’s part because it guaranteed that his son was protected should something happen to him.
"How do you know this?" Bella questioned and Bella knew she had to come clean.
This was her last chance and if she was planning to abandon them then it would make no difference.
Bella took a deep breath and explained everything to her, this included the torture and killing of the woman.
Rachel’s jaw dropped, she couldn’t believe that this woman had done something so evil, she immediately pointed her gun at Bella.
There was no way that she was letting this woman go, Sam had the right idea.
She needed to be put away, Rachel felt sick that she shared food with someone so sickening.
"This is how I know but I also know how the infection spreads..." Bella said and the moment she said this, they heard screams from within the walls.
-
The screams were deafening, and the familiar growling of zombies soon filled the area as everyone killed was coming back to life but this was strange considering that none of them were bitten.
They tore into the flesh of the living, they were taken unaware because not only was the night against them, they didn’t know where the zombies were coming from.
They assumed the walls had been breached because they couldn’t see the faces of the zombies.
They opened fire and indiscriminately killed the zombies but some of the bullets found their own men.
This was a direct contradiction of the bodies that they had seen, some hadn’t turned when killed yet these people were turning.
There was something that they didn’t understand about this virus and it was going to cost them because the gunfire and explosion also drew zombies outside the walls.
They were saturated at a single point and with what was going on within, they were too occupied to handle the threat.
The zombies began to hit the walls, luckily for Rachel and Bella, the zombies weren’t coming from the position that they were.
"Man the fucking walls!" A voice screamed, and they went to the walls and opened fire but the gunshots only drew even more zombies.
At this rate, the walls wouldn’t hold as their body weight was pressing against them, things were looking bad if zombies managed to get in, then even they would be overrun.
It was becoming clear why Chronos wanted Jason here, it was to free Lorenzo.
And right now, Lorenzo added two more Specters to his kill list and he was just getting started as he stood over both Cindy and Joseph’s corpse.
He walked out of the building but not before setting it on fire to cause even more panic, it was hard to pick him out of the crowd because he knew how this place worked.
The fire was still at its genesis, it was yet to spread and hadn’t affected the bodies yet.
He had killed three Specters in one night, this was a feat that deserved praise but these were the weaker members of this elite group.
He heard growling sounds coming from within the building, Lorenzo knew that she would come back to life, he knew something that the others didn’t.
