Chapter 296: The Fight Against Time

Dimitris knew he had to be careful because if they were engaged in a confrontation with Corey, he knew that Corey wouldn’t hesitate to kill him.

He couldn’t risk it because if what Glenn said was true then these people were more than capable of protecting themselves.

Dimitris arrived at their location but they had parked the car a couple of distance away so there was no they could be seen. freēwēbnovel.com

They proceeded to encroach the area, they were all careful as they knew that if a zombie was to spot them then there would be no way to escape them or rather, their location would be given up,

They arrived after a couple of minutes and realized that the area was deserted except for a few men that Corey left behind to protect the cars and secure the area.

They were about to exterminate these people and Dimitris knew he would be going against Mariam’s orders.

However, Mariam was someone he could handle, he knew that she was their leader despite having a drastic change in her personality as of late.

She would give him a listening ear as long as his reason was valid but it would get complicated if they were to kill Corey.

There was no way that she wouldn’t connect the two events and this would put Dimitris in a tight spot as Mariam was already paranoid enough.

She was a dangerous woman and Dimitris knew that this wasn’t the same woman a year back, she had become someone fierce. No, it would be more accurate to say she has removed the mask she wore and shown who she truly was.

Fortunately for Mariam, her secret never reached the rest of them because Jason was gone before he could make it public knowledge and with Allison dead, no one in the community knew of this.

"What do we do now?" Glenn asked the all-important question but Dimitris wondered if there was a way they could slip through.

"You have been here before, haven’t you?" Dimitris questioned.

If Glenn could remember the terrain, it should be possible for them to find another way to move past them.

However, Glenn was unconscious most of his time there and didn’t move around much when he came to it so he had limited knowledge regarding the terrain.

He looked to his left and then right to try and establish some sort of clue as to where they went.

Glenn couldn’t help much because he only knew the way to their camp by road due to when they returned but the road was blocked with not only a barricade but a few of Corey’s men.

"GRRRRRRRGGHHH!"

Multiple voices echoed in the distance, these were no doubt the voices of zombies but they were coming from the opposite side, this meant that the zombies weren’t coming at them but Corey’s men.

"Take care of them," A man commanded but this was the window that Dimitris needed.

He instructed everyone to stay put, the moment they turned their heads in the opposite direction to take care of the zombies, Dimitris snuck his way behind a car close by effectively closing the distance.

Dimitris knew that they would get rid of the zombies with little to no difficulties as they were walkers, the easiest set of zombies to deal with melee weapons.

But they were spread out, if they were going to make a move, it was now.

Dimitris gestured for them to run into the bushes, they could go around them that way but he knew that they had to be fast.

Glenn led the way with Rachel following behind him, they ran into the bushes just past the car and used the cover to move further in it. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

However, the rustling on the leaves caught the attention of the man in charge of them but before he could complete his turn, the alarm of one of the cars went haywire.

He had to disable it and fast or it would serve as a beacon to attract the zombies.

This was the car that Dimitris was hiding behind so there was no doubt that he would see him should he approach it but there was no other way to salvage the situation.

The man reached the car but Dimitris was nowhere in sight, he hid beneath the car as the man disabled the alarm.

He gestured for the rest to go, he would catch up with them later, there was no reason for him to hold them up especially when it was time-sensitive.

This allowed Glenn and Rachel to move freely through the bushes without any concern of being heard thanks to Dimitris’ quick thinking but were they too late?

That would be determined shortly, Glenn moved around them but as they were going, they noticed there were footprints in the soil ahead.

There were multiple which implied that this could potentially be Corey and his men but there was also a chance that this could be trailed left by zombies.

Glenn and Rachel had no way to know, they weren’t skilled in this regard and as such, couldn’t tell old footprints from new. They weren’t trackers.

"Should we follow it?" Rachel asked, Glenn was the one taking charge in Dimitris’s absence and Rachel trusted him enough to follow his lead as he has proven himself ever since she came here to be someone worthy of trust.

"No... I have been to the camp, that is not the way so something else must have made that and something tells me we don’t have time on our side," Glenn reminded her.

If they followed the trail and it proved to be a dead end, they would sacrifice the little time they had left to stop the impending massacre.

Glenn knew the way to the camp and it was true that a shortcut would come in handy but there was no telling what was at the end of the trail.

Besides, they were already close to their destination.
