Chapter 290: A Familiar Road

Morning came and the others assembled to continue their journey, they were venturing into unknown territory so going under the cover of night wasn’t to their advantage because there was no way they could defend themselves should an ambush happen.

Dimitris knew this was a possibility and while he disagreed with Corey’s moral compass, he knew he was a capable fighter.

He had seen the young man handle a few evolved zombies and he did that gracefully, they couldn’t even come near him. The position he currently held was well-deserved.

They boarded their cars and began their journey to the settlement that had been watching them.

"Rachel, are you okay?" Glenn questioned upon noticing that she looked like she didn’t sleep a wink.

"I don’t know to be honest but I had to stay watch so nothing could go wrong," Rachel muttered, the exhaustion in her voice evident.

"That is why we rotated the shifts so you could rest. You cannot be so reckless, your action doesn’t affect only you." Dimitris intercepted, he didn’t pity her for whatever reason because everyone had some sort of burden to deal with.

She couldn’t be led like a child and if her actions were detrimental to the rest of them then she effectively became a burden.

Dimitris couldn’t risk that but he understood why Rachel couldn’t sleep.

She didn’t trust Corey but the thing about Corey was he wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize the mission despite his sociopathic tendencies.

Glenn kept quiet, he knew that Dimitris was their superior and saw things a lot clearer than the rest of them. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

He couldn’t get himself involved but he realized that there was something familiar about the road they were travelling, Rachel did not know of this because it was with Clementine that he came with.

"Sir Dimitris..." Glenn called, prompting Dimitris to look at him through his rear-view mirror.

"What is it?" Dimitris questioned with a stern voice, despite knowing him for years Dimitris still had such an intimidating presence.

Dimitris was one of the most capable soldiers in their ranks and his years of experience gave him the upper hand.

Glenn gave him all the respect that was due even though they had been friends and he was one of the few people that Dimitris didn’t mind speaking to him in a casual tone.

"I think I know where we’re going..." Glenn said under his breath and everyone looked at him, clearly surprised by this revelation.

"Explain yourself," Dimitris commanded because he knew that they were about to exterminate these individuals. freewebnøvel.coɱ

If they weren’t a threat, now was the time to let him know so he might be able to divert this impending disaster.

Glenn took a deep breath before divulging all the information but Dimitris was already informed of the situation when Jason and co previously returned.

Shantel was from this settlement and if anything, they were part of the reason that they returned with as much goods as they did.

The community would have ceased to exist if they didn’t accomplish this task.

"You should have said something sooner!" Dimitris barked at him, clearly losing his cool which was a rare sight in itself.

"I didn’t know..." Glenn responded but he was barely audible.

"Hey! Take it easy on hi-!" Rachel’s mouth clamped shut the moment she made eye contact with the man through the rear-view mirror.

"Strap up," Dimitris commanded before stepping on the gas, this increased their speed just enough to overtake Corey and the rest before hitting the brakes to block their path.

This stopped every other car and a furious Corey exited the vehicle, ready to confront Dimitris.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Corey questioned, walking right towards Dimitris.

Glenn clutched the hilt of his gun, ready for combat because the chances of this going South were high.

Corey was furious and rightfully so but Dimitris already had what he wished to say down.

"Pipe down, I have been informed that there was a nest here a couple of months ago," Dimitris informed him.

Everyone knew how dangerous nests were and if they had been here months ago, the chances that they would have undergone evolution were quite high.

They couldn’t risk it but Corey was skeptical, if they had encountered something like this months ago there was no way that he would not have been informed of it.

Unless Dimitris kept it from them which would be a punishment of its own.

Corey looked around before taking a deep breath, pointing his gun in the air and letting loose a few shots.

"I guess now we can’t stay here, can we?" Corey mocked him before returning to his car.

"Go around them," Corey commanded, ignoring Dimitris’ warning and everyone drove around them, continuing to their destination.

This was what Dimitris feared, Corey had slowly taken control of the raiders because his extreme ideals were what he once embodied.

Dimitris wasn’t as ruthless as he was ever since encountering Jason as Jason helped him realize that there might be some humanity left in this condemned world.

"Well, that was a terrible plan," Glenn aired out his thoughts because Dimitris had done nothing.

"No... It wasn’t," Dimitris said under his breath and that was because the gunshot would have been heard by them.

This would alert them of their presence and allow them to take the necessary action to welcome their parties.

Dimitris restarted the car and went after them because he knew that there might still be a chance at stopping this bloodshed, even if it meant stopping Corey himself.

Rachel was relieved that he had given these people a fighting chance even though Glenn, who had lost consciousness when the car crashed, made a grave miscalculation.

The only reason that these people trusted them enough to let them in was because of Jason, he made a choice that ended up taking the life of a comrade.

However, Glenn hoped and prayed that they recognized him but the chances of there being no bloodshed were close to 0% with Corey involved.
