Chapter 72: Chapter 72: The Plan
"Bro, you need to be more careful from now on. The Spiritual Sect might have noticed you."
Su Xing was still talking with Lu Anning when he suddenly heard Su Yu’s voice, making his heart skip a beat. He turned his head to look at Su Yu, his expression asking what had happened.
Su Xing had been with Lu Anning these past few days.
’For Su Yu to suddenly say something like that, the special organization must have made a new discovery. After all, his position in the organization is quite high, giving him access to almost all information.’
Sure enough, when Su Yu saw Su Xing turn around, his grave voice sounded in Su Xing’s ear again.
"Yes. The special organization found the body of a High Priest at Wealth Plaza. His codename was apparently Thousand-Change. I wasn’t at the scene, so I don’t know how he died."
Hearing this, Su Xing raised an eyebrow slightly, signaling for Su Yu to go on. Su Yu continued his explanation while he trained with Shen Ruyun:
"I don’t know how he died, but the people who found him discovered some clues on his body. They followed the trail to his lair, and there, we found something."
Su Yu paused for a moment, but then continued without delay, "Actually, it was three stone slates. One had Su Xing’s name written on it, one had my name, and the last one had Lu Anning’s name."
"These must be the people the Spiritual Sect plans to target next."
To be honest, Su Yu was a little worried.
The more entangled he became with the Spiritual Sect, the more he understood what a behemoth it was.
’The Demon Cultivator behind them is an old monster who has lived for several hundred years, his power utterly unfathomable. To be targeted by an existence like that... even if my brother is a mysterious expert, can he really emerge unscathed?’
’After all, throughout history, how many experts have there been? Yet very few of them ever met a peaceful end. The more powerful the expert, the more likely they are to suffer violent retribution.’
He had been helping Su Xing hide his identity precisely because he didn’t want him to be targeted by the Spiritual Sect.
But now, because of him, Su Xing had become a high-priority target just like himself. This left Su Yu feeling frustrated, so he added another reminder:
"For the time being, just stay here at the Sword Hall with me. Don’t go running around."
"Relax, relax."
Su Xing took out his phone and sent a text message.
He was a total homebody to begin with and almost never left the Sword Hall. The only exception had been his recent trip out with Lu Anning.
’At the time, I was just trying to protect Lu Anning, and figured I could get some energy off the High Priest to add to my stats. I never expected this Thousand-Change High Priest to have nothing on him at all. What a waste of my anticipation.’
’Come to think of it...’
’The Lord’s Blessing is something you’d use immediately upon receiving it.’
’You’d only have leftover energy to keep on hand for emergencies if you’d received the blessing multiple times.’
’Still, my little brother has a point. Being targeted by the Spiritual Sect does give me an unsettling, itchy feeling. Better to lie low for a while, hide out in the Sword Hall, and focus on leveling up.’
’Of course, if they come looking for death, then they can’t blame me for being ruthless.’
"What about you? Do you still have to go to the organization’s building for meetings and stuff?"
Su Xing pushed the thoughts from his mind and sent Su Yu a text. After seeing it, Su Yu still replied using his sound transmission technique:
"No need. The organization told me to stay put at the Sword Hall for now. They’ll have people protecting us from the outside, and any updates from the organization will be sent to my phone."
"After all, I’m not like you, bro. I can’t just kill a Tier Four whenever I feel like it."
As he said this, he suddenly remembered that his brother had mentioned taking Lu Anning to Wealth Plaza. And the Thousand-Change High Priest just happened to die at Wealth Plaza. Su Yu paused, then asked:
"This Thousand-Change High Priest... you didn’t kill him too, did you?"
"If you’re talking about the guy who was full of holes, then yeah, that was probably me. No doubt about it."
"..."
Right. Su Yu suddenly realized that it seemed his older brother had killed *all* of the Spiritual Sect’s Tier Four High Priests.
’In that case, the Spiritual Sect targeting Su Xing wasn’t wrong at all. Though they don’t know he’s the mysterious expert, they’ve stumbled upon the right answer by accident. For all I know, the Spiritual Sect probably thinks taking care of Su Xing will be the easiest of the three.’
This thought flashed through Su Yu’s mind. The more he considered it, the more he felt the Spiritual Sect might actually be thinking that way.
...
Dragon Heaven Building was located in the center of the Cang City Work Zone.
Surrounded by skyscrapers and a constant flow of people, the area was incredibly bustling.
The government would never let a central building like this stay empty for long. After the Spiritual Sect’s presence was completely purged, Dragon Heaven Building was confiscated by the government and eventually auctioned off to a wealthy businessman in his fifties. His surname was Dong, and he was supposedly in the real estate business. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Thus, after a complete change in ownership, Dragon Heaven Building was once again teeming with people, as if nothing had ever happened here and it was just the most ordinary of office buildings.
The elevators in Dragon Heaven Building went up to the 20th floor and down to the -1 floor. The 20th floor was the rooftop, and the -1 floor was the underground parking garage—the lowest level accessible to ordinary employees.
But beneath even the lowest level of the parking garage, there was still a hidden space. Countless people dressed in the white robes of the Spiritual Sect were gathered here, discussing something. Most of them were new converts who had recently joined the Spiritual Sect, but there were still a few familiar faces among them.
For example, the Corpse High Priest, whose two sons had been killed.
Standing beside him was a mature woman, likely the wife he had turned into a zombie. His wife had pale skin and was dressed in a form-fitting skirt and red-soled high heels. She stood silently by his side with lifeless eyes, occasionally letting slip a terrifying aura of a Tier Four Peak. This made many of the new Spiritualist Followers afraid to even approach them.
This continued until a woman with short, light blue hair walked up to him and spoke:
"Old man, what are you doing here?"
"This tomboy sure is impolite."
The Corpse High Priest sneered at her words and continued, "Your superior... spending so much money to buy this place and recruit so many ordinary people as Spiritualist Followers... what’s the point?"
"Are you questioning the Vice Bishop’s intentions?"
The woman with the short, light blue hair glanced at the Corpse High Priest and said coolly:
"There are only two Vice Bishops right now. One of them is obsessed with cultivating Martial Artists and even sent people to capture that Lu Anning."
"The other is constantly recruiting ordinary people. As for the purpose, I haven’t figured it out yet myself. But if you dare to question a Vice Bishop’s plan, you’ll lose your head."
"Heh. Of course I’m not here to question the Vice Bishop. I’m not that bored."
The Corpse High Priest said with a laugh, then cracked his neck with a series of sharp pops. "I came looking for you, Space. You’ve heard that guy Thousand-Change is dead, right?"
