Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Liu Ming Is Defeated, Su Xing Takes Action
After the Sword Priestess finished speaking, her body was instantly wreathed in a translucent blue sequence energy.
The silver-white longsword in her hand, nearly as tall as she was, suddenly extended. This was her "Reinforcement" sequence. Under the golden sunlight, the enhanced blade glinted coldly.
At that moment,
the Sword Priestess finally bared her fangs!
Liu Ming’s eyes narrowed to slits. His face was completely drained of color, and blood still oozed from his wounds. He clenched his fists, which emanated a dim yellow glow. Liu Ming said in a heavy voice,
"Are you sure you want this to be a fight to the death?"
"’A fight to the death?’" The Sword Priestess glanced at Liu Ming with disdain, her voice laced with mockery. "I’ll admit, you’re strong. You fought three of us—three Spiritualist Priests—and even killed one. But you must be completely spent by now, right?"
"And once you’re spent, you’re nothing but useless trash."
"As for your special organization... it’ll take them a while to get here from their headquarters, won’t it?"
"Chief Liu, you can’t be expecting those little brats from the Sword Hall to come rescue you, can you? Let me guess... Are you waiting for Su Yu? Shen Ruyun? Or that ordinary kid, Su Xing?"
"Enough of your damn chatter!"
"Kill him, quickly! That mysterious expert could show up at any moment!"
At the mention of the "mysterious expert," the Sword Priestess’s disdainful expression vanished. The mysterious expert had simply killed too many members of the Spiritual Sect. No matter how arrogant she was, she couldn’t afford to underestimate them.
The Sword Priestess narrowed her eyes, twisting her neck with a series of loud CRACKS. But as she looked up the mountain, she suddenly froze.
It was because she thought she’d seen a head appear for an instant in the dense forest, only to vanish just as quickly.
The Sword Priestess stared blankly for a moment, then rubbed her eyes in confusion, muttering as if to herself, "’Was that someone above us just now?’"
"What?"
The woman whose hands were covered in blood-red claw blades asked, confused.
The moment she asked "What?" the Sword Priestess snapped to her senses. "Dammit, there’s someone on the mountain!" she yelled. "Identity unknown! Kill Liu Ming now!"
She enjoyed toying with those on the brink of death,
but that didn’t mean she was some fucking idiot who had stumbled her way into the rank of Priestess!
Someone had clearly discovered that something was wrong here, yet they still dared to come alone. A person like that was either supremely confident or a genuine simpleton. The Sword Priestess wasn’t willing to bet on the latter. That person on the mountain had to be a master!
As the thought settled, the sequence energy around her grew even denser, becoming almost tangible. Without another word, she raised her silver-white longsword and charged at Liu Ming.
The Sword Priestess moved with incredible speed. The translucent blue sequence energy coiled around her, tracing a light-blue line through the air as she lunged. The ferocity of the attack made Liu Ming’s eyes narrow, and he brought his fists up into a fighting stance.
Though Liu Ming was almost completely out of energy,
his battle-honed instincts kicked in, and he instantly made the correct move. He tilted his head, turned his body, and shot his right fist upward in a powerful arc.
In a flash, the Sword Priestess’s blade struck the air a mere millimeter from Liu Ming’s shoulder, but Liu Ming’s fist had also slammed into her body. The Sword Priestess’s Qi and Blood roiled. She stumbled back several steps, fighting down the urge to vomit blood.
In a one-on-one fight,
Liu Ming was indeed far stronger than the Sword Priestess.
But this had never been a one-on-one fight. Just as Liu Ming’s fist sent the Sword Priestess reeling, the other Spiritualist Priest appeared at his flank and drove a punch straight into his abdomen.
A dull thud echoed through the clearing.
Liu Ming tasted blood at the back of his throat. A searing pain erupted from his abdomen, igniting the exhaustion that had settled deep in his bones. His body went limp, and he collapsed to one knee. He braced a hand on his leg, glaring up at the two figures before him with bitter resentment.
"Heh heh, I finally landed a hit on you."
"Chief Liu, I hope you remember my name when you’re in Hell. I am the Insect Priestess."
The Claw Priestess chuckled softly. Standing before Liu Ming, she snapped her fingers.
At the sound of the snap, the crimson Blood Claws wrapped around her hands began to tremble, then writhe. Liu Ming looked closer and saw that the pair of Blood Claws was made entirely of individual, crimson-red worms. The sight was indescribably grotesque and nauseating.
A worm from the core of a Blood Claw suddenly broke free, leaped onto Liu Ming, and burrowed up into his nostril. Liu Ming’s face contorted in horror. He demanded,
"What is this?!"
"Oh, it’s nothing. Just a new species I’ve cultivated. I call it the ’Dirty Gift Worm.’ Makes things cleaner for everyone, doesn’t it? No need for me to get my hands dirty."
The Insect Priestess looked at Liu Ming and chuckled lightly.
Although the Insect Priestess hadn’t explained it clearly, how could Liu Ming not understand the worm’s purpose? Insects like this were a common manifestation of a sequence’s power. His only path to survival was to kill the Insect Priestess before the worm took effect!
At this thought,
Liu Ming tried to force himself to stand. But as he began to rise, his vision went black, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
The worm’s effects hadn’t even started, but Liu Ming’s body had already given out. His countless injuries and the overwhelming fatigue made it impossible for even his resolute spirit to force his body to stand.
’It seems... this is the end.’
All Liu Ming could do was lie there and silently await his death.
And that seemed to be the case. Even his enemies, the Insect Priestess and the Sword Priestess, assumed Liu Ming was finished.
A sword’s hum suddenly rang out!
The situation changed in an instant. The two Priestesses snapped to attention, only to see hundreds of thick, white lines slash out from the forested mountain path ahead. The dense woods in their way were instantly annihilated as the lines shot straight toward the two of them.
The sword-light shone like the moon, its power unmatched!
Both Priestesses reacted in a flash. Their sequence energy flared as they raised their weapons to meet the onslaught of sword-light! freewebnovel.cσ๓
HUMMM!!!
The sword-light dissipated, revealing deep, bloody gashes on both their bodies.
"Who the hell is that, playing at being a ghost!"
The Sword Priestess’s eyes were bloodshot as she stared fixedly in the direction the white lines had come from.
To be honest, she was nowhere near as calm as she appeared. The fact that those seemingly unremarkable white lines had so easily pierced her defenses and wounded her was unbelievable.
Worse still... the hand holding her sword, which had collided with the white lines, was trembling slightly, as if it had gone numb.
The Insect Priestess roared, "You fucking idiot! That’s the mysterious master!"
