Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Slaying and Disguise

"You’re the one who’s going to die!!!!"

The moment the blood shadow slammed its hands together, Su Xing unleashed a relentless sword-drawing strike. He transformed into a streak of white light, charging madly at Xue City.

Although Su Xing was incredibly fast and dodged the blow, the resulting shockwave still washed over him.

Excruciating pain wracked Su Xing’s body, making him feel as if he were about to explode. He would never have been able to endure it if the agony of each of his advancements hadn’t been several times worse.

Su Xing gritted his teeth. Warm blood trickled down his forehead, blurring his vision.

He could feel his heart pounding wildly, a roaring war drum urging him to finish Xue City off for good!

’What’s going on?’

’Did I hear that right?’

Xue City’s life force was fading fast, his mind growing hazy. Hearing Su Xing’s roar, he was momentarily stunned. He couldn’t process how Su Xing had survived such a terrifying blow.

But,

time was not on his side.

Xue City felt someone mount him in an instant. Before he could even react, Su Xing’s longsword plunged straight into his head!

BOOM!

Under the immense force, Xue City’s head shattered like a watermelon struck by a sledgehammer. Red and white matter instantly splattered across the ground.

The moment Xue City’s head burst, the colossal, blood-red monster behind him instantly dissolved, turning into motes of bloody light that vanished into the air.

Su Xing staggered to his feet. The Black Sword in his hand dissipated into black motes of light. He gazed down at Xue City, who was now as dead as dead could be, and finally let out a slow sigh of relief.

He could tell that despite the grueling fight, he wasn’t seriously injured. The worst of it was the punch to his chest, which would probably heal after a bit of rest.

Su Xing clenched his fist.

Only now did he truly realize how much stronger he’d become. ’If I’d run into this guy before my [Ordinary Sword] breakthrough,’ Su Xing thought, ’a dozen lives wouldn’t have been enough for him to take.’

Just then,

he suddenly heard the sound of approaching footsteps from the bottom of the hill.

Su Xing realized at once that it must be the special department. It was too late to run. He quickly found an open spot, dropped to the ground, and squeezed his eyes shut.

’I just got out of a fight, so I look like the perfect victim,’ he thought. ’The special department can’t find any proof that I have Extraordinary powers. A little acting shouldn’t be a problem.’

Once Su Xing was settled on the ground, the footsteps from the hill below grew closer and closer.

As the footsteps drew near,

Su Xing could distinguish two different sets: one light, one heavy. ’Two people,’ he concluded.

Liu Ming surveyed the scene, inwardly reeling with shock. He had expected an intense fight, but not one of this magnitude.

The entire hill had practically been caved in. Craters, bloodstains, and bits of flesh were everywhere. And there lay Xue City’s corpse, confirming he had been killed by the mysterious expert.

Bailan paid little attention to the signs of battle. Spotting Xue City’s corpse, she walked over to Su Xing, checked for breath, and gently shook him, asking: ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

"Hands—... Brother Su, are you okay?"

Bailan’s voice was a mixture of concern, confusion, and suspicion.

Her mind was racing.

’Bailan was certain the devastation was from the fight between the mysterious expert and Xue City. But the only people here were Xue City’s corpse and Su Xing... Could Su Xing be the mysterious expert?’

’A guy that handsome...’

’It only makes sense for him to be powerful, right?’

Just as this thought crossed her mind,

Su Xing put on a show of extreme weakness and slowly fluttered his eyes open. Seeing Bailan, he feigned surprise.

"Teacher Bai, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at school right now?"

Hearing Su Xing’s question, Liu Ming, who had been standing behind Bailan, stepped forward. He gestured toward Su Xing’s injuries, flashed a police ID, and spoke.

"Sir, are you alright?"

"Here’s what happened. I heard there was a situation here. Miss Bai happened to be at the police station on some business, so I let her come along with me."

"I’m a police officer. You can call me Officer Liu."

"Officer Liu... There was a murderer, a murderer!"

Su Xing, pretending to be clueless, frantically pointed at Xue City lying on the ground and continued to shout:

"That was him! He was trying to kill me! Then someone—a really skilled fighter—showed up and saved me!"

"A really skilled fighter?"

Liu Ming shot Bailan an impassive glance, then took out a small notepad and continued.

"Please walk me through what happened in detail."

Su Xing scratched his head. "To be honest, I don’t really know what happened. I couldn’t sleep, so I went out for a walk. I ended up on this hill and ran into that murderer..."

Su Xing gave a rough summary of the events.

After hearing the whole story, Liu Ming frowned and then asked:

"So, you’re saying you came up here in the middle of the night, ran into this murderer, struggled for your life, and then someone just happened to come along and save you?"

"Where is this person now?"

"I don’t know. I passed out right after he saved me. I don’t remember anything after that."

Liu Ming looked at Su Xing, his brow slightly furrowed.

’Honestly, this is all very strange,’ Liu Ming thought. ’The place is a complete wreck, yet Su Xing, supposedly an ordinary person, isn’t asking a ton of questions. His worldview isn’t shattered.’

’How is that possible?’

’Unless he already knew the world wasn’t as simple as it seems.’

But no matter how many times Liu Ming looked,

he couldn’t detect any sign that Su Xing was a Sequencer.

’As for him being a Martial Artist... that theory has been dismissed by the organization two or three times already, so that’s unlikely.’

’So there’s only one possibility left.’

’The mysterious expert must have told Su Xing part of the truth about the world.’

’But why would the mysterious expert tell Su Xing something like that?’

Thinking of this,

Liu Ming fell silent for a moment.

He was able to deduce two things from this incident.

First, the mysterious expert definitely has a grudge against the Spiritual Sect, but also wishes to avoid contact with official organizations.

Second, Su Xing very likely knows the mysterious expert. Or rather... the mysterious expert is someone close to him.

Liu Ming’s eyes narrowed.

He felt the mysterious expert’s identity was tantalizingly close to being revealed.

Previously,

he would have been deeply unsettled by such a powerful figure operating in the shadows.

Especially an expert who possessed such terrifying strength and talent.

But after their indirect contact these past few days, he was fairly certain this expert meant them no harm. Perhaps they really did just want to live a peaceful, ordinary life.

After a long moment,

Liu Ming finally waved a hand at him.

"Just stay put for now."

"I’ll call an ambulance for you."

Su Xing pretended to struggle to his feet, forcing a strained smile.

"It’s fine, I can still walk. No need to call an ambulance for me."

"Officer Liu, am I free to go?"

"You’re free to go. You can head home."

"You should get checked out at a hospital, if you can. I mean, look at you, you’re covered in injuries."

Liu Ming pointed at the wounds on Su Xing’s body.

Under normal circumstances, he would have personally taken Su Xing to the hospital, especially since he was Su Yu’s older brother. But with something like this happening, his mind was completely focused on how to deal with the Spiritual Sect.

"Um... Brother Su, do you want me to take you to the hospital?"

As Su Xing passed by Bailan,

she suddenly whispered.

Bailan watched him go, her heart aching. ’If a face that handsome gets scarred,’ she thought, ’it’d be a personal loss for me!’

"Hey, Miss Bai, your case isn’t resolved yet. You can’t leave right now."

Hearing Bailan, Liu Ming immediately cut in. He was somewhat familiar with her personality and couldn’t let Su Xing just whisk her away.

Hearing Liu Ming,

Su Xing just smiled and left.

After Su Xing limped away, only Liu Ming and Bailan were left.

Bailan grumbled with some frustration:

"Why did you have to stop me from making my move?"

"Still thinking about men? The mysterious expert and Xue City nearly demolished this mountain! The commotion was huge. We need to handle the fallout before any innocent residents find out."

"Tch..."

Bailan stuck out her tongue, but she knew how serious the situation was, so she didn’t argue. She just asked:

"Liu Ming, what’s your plan now?"

"A meeting."

"We’re going to stop worrying about the mysterious expert. He’s incredibly strong, but he’s not our problem!"

"We need to focus all our efforts on the Spiritual Sect. They’re already sending out Tier-3 Sequencers. We can’t stay on the defensive any longer. We have to go on the offensive. We have their list of Priests. Now, we’ll hunt them down, one by one!"
