Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Shattered Bones
Lou Zhen was perfectly aware.
The power in his body was stronger than it had ever been!
The five fingers of his right hand merged, forming a sledgehammer. A single downward smash could leave a massive crater in the ground. There was no way this guy before him could possibly withstand this punch!
Now,
it was time for him to die!
Lou Zhen threw a punch, then suddenly heard Su Xing’s low whisper. A beast’s perception of death is often stronger than a human’s. The current Lou Zhen was already half-beast, and he abruptly sensed an unprecedented killing intent emanating from Su Xing.
But,
it was already too late.
HUM!
As the sword left its Sword Scabbard,
he felt his right hand get sliced off in an instant. Seeing his empty right arm, Lou Zhen felt not terror, but a sudden ecstasy. He roared in his heart:
’If this is all you’ve got, it’s not enough to kill me!’
The sword in Su Xing’s hand instantly turned its edge. One by one, white lines began to fuse with the greatsword, adhering to it instead of scattering. Finally, the blade in Su Xing’s hand became a pure white Light Saber.
Lou Zhen felt it.
A terrifying force hacked down on the very center of his head.
He felt as if time had stopped. His heart ceased to beat. He stood there stiffly, like a corpse. Then, he heard the last words of his life.
"When I say I’ll kill you, I kill you."
Gripping the greatsword with both hands, Su Xing brought it down on Lou Zhen’s hard skull. He suddenly exerted his strength, a terrifying power imbued with [White Line Sever] tearing downward as he dragged the blade!
SPLASH!
Foul-smelling blood shot into the sky like a crimson fountain, arcing toward the heavens before drizzling back down to the ground.
Lou Zhen’s hard, black-fur-covered body had been split in two by Su Xing’s sword, cleaved straight down the spine from head to tail!
One half of his hairy body toppled to the left, the other to the right. Only the spine remained, standing quietly on the ground.
Dead.
Su Xing gave his sword a sharp flick, shaking off the dark red blood, then slowly slid it back into its Sword Scabbard. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
He calmly looked at the spine standing before him, still trailing bits of flesh. With his right hand, he suddenly grabbed the Sword Scabbard and, like a club, smashed the spine to pieces.
Seeing Lou Zhen’s mutilated corpse,
with no chance of him ever recovering,
did Su Xing finally let out a slow breath of relief. The fight replayed in his mind. This could be called Su Xing’s first true battle since entering the Extraordinary World.
In his previous fights,
most opponents had been killed in a single strike.
This guy had barely managed to withstand three.
’A truly formidable opponent.’
Su Xing shook his head and sighed. If he hadn’t comprehended [Sword-Drawing Stance] and then fused it with [White Line Sever], causing his power to skyrocket, he couldn’t say for sure if he could have killed a Sequencer like this.
After all, before [Sword-Drawing Stance], Su Xing’s single-target power was quite limited. Faced with such absurd regenerative abilities, he might have very well been defeated.
’The people sent by the Spiritual Sect are getting stronger and stronger.’
He had no idea what kind of figure stood behind this Spiritual Sect, able to forcibly bestow blessings on ordinary people and turn them into such powerful Sequencers. It was unbelievable.
At this thought,
Su Xing’s eyes narrowed slightly as he thought to himself:
’I don’t care who you are. Since you’ve chosen to stand against me, I’ll cut you down with my sword sooner or later.’
As Su Xing’s mind wandered, he suddenly heard the sound of approaching footsteps in the distance, along with some sparse, muffled voices. They still sounded quite far off.
Though he had arrived late, he had seen Shen Ruyun leave, so he knew she must have gone to get reinforcements. Su Xing had no intention of exposing himself just yet. If the people from the special department found him here, things would get very troublesome.
Su Xing glanced at the pile of mangled flesh and the shattered pieces of spine, then turned and left. Step by step, he vanished into the darkness.
...
「A few minutes later.」
Shen Ruyun, Liu Ming, Wang Yu, and Su Yu arrived together on the hill.
The moment Su Yu arrived, he was hit by the pungent, foul stench. A wave of nausea surged up his throat. He squatted on the ground and dry-heaved for several rounds before he recovered, tears from the effort welling in his eyes.
Although he had been through battles and seen people killed, he had never witnessed such a gory murder.
The man had been split in two, his spine smashed into four or five pieces and scattered on the ground. Both halves of the body were covered in residual wounds and black fur stained crimson with blood.
Su Yu’s face was pale. He turned his head to look at Shen Ruyun and asked:
"Sister Yun... is this the Spiritual Sect Assistant Priest, Lou Zhen, you were talking about?"
"Mm..."
Shen Ruyun only gave a faint reply, as she was also unsettled. She found the pungent smell particularly hard to bear. Fighting back the stench, she walked up to what was left of Lou Zhen. After making absolutely sure, she nodded again and said:
"It should be him, yes."
Liu Ming’s eyes narrowed, his gaze fixed on the gory scene.
Of the four people who had come, he was likely the calmest one.
In Xia Country, there had been countless murders and Extraordinary homicides over the past decade. While a killing this ruthless was rare, as someone who had been a criminal detective for ten-odd years and a leader in the special department for several more, he was better able to accept it.
This guy named Lou Zhen,
had clearly been cleaved in two from head to toe by some immense power.
After observing for a moment, Liu Ming finally spoke slowly, "Yun, you fought him before, didn’t you? How did he rank among Tier Two Sequencers?"
Shen Ruyun thought for a moment before replying:
"He was very strong. If he had transformed into this monstrous state from the beginning, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to beat him. I might have even met with an accident."
"Is that so..."
Liu Ming rubbed his nose and said:
"Let’s report the situation here to headquarters. Judging by the killer’s methods, I suspect this is another conflict between that mysterious expert and the Spiritual Sect."
"Also, have headquarters dispatch a Tier Three Sequencer immediately."
"Yu’s safety is the top priority. The Sequencers the Spiritual Sect is sending out are getting stronger. I’m afraid Yun can’t handle them."
The more Liu Ming spoke, the tighter his brow furrowed.
He couldn’t understand why the Spiritual Sect was so insistent on targeting Su Yu.
Or rather... they actually knew very little about the Spiritual Sect. The special department had no idea what the purpose behind their actions was.
The special department only knew that they were after "contributions," and that killing Su Yu was simply because he would provide them with a greater amount.
But...
Was it really that simple?
If it were purely for contributions, they wouldn’t be so organized and disciplined, sending increasingly powerful people each time. They definitely had some other purpose for killing Su Yu.
However, this purpose... the lower ranks of the Spiritual Sect were likely unaware of it. They would have to find a way to capture and interrogate a mid-level member.
Liu Ming’s brow was tightly furrowed as he spoke slowly:
"Tell headquarters to send someone quickly. I have a very bad feeling about this. Also... if possible, have the new person from headquarters assume a disguised identity and make an appearance at your Sword Hall."
"They’ll be stronger, so perhaps they can find out if your old Hall Master is the mysterious expert."
"If you find the mysterious expert, you must win him over!"
