Chapter 1897: Chapter 474: Hill’s Shock and Lingering Fear
The secrets of the Tower of Dark Enigma, Hill can temporarily set aside: even though Ruth is clearly up to something, he certainly isn’t on the side of the devils.
As for what might be hidden in the dark, Hill actually doesn’t care much... it’s just some means of struggling for the future.
No matter how much sorrow and pain, anger and hatred are hidden in these means, to Hill, it is just a story that evokes sighs, not something he must delve into to uncover all the hidden truths.
Just like Teraxil’s struggles and resistance over tens of thousands of years, to people in other worlds, it’s just a history book... something to read and ponder, but not to delve into who are the figures behind the joys and sorrows of history.
Anyway, the stronger the hidden powers are in this world, the happier Hill will be.
As for whether the Styx will also feel happy, or whether the Red Dragon and his daughter have any means to fully control this world... what does it have to do with Hill?
He just doesn’t want a neighbor who’s always up to no good as an evil neighbor next door, and certainly doesn’t want to interfere with where they work, what school they attend, or how they decorate their home?
Who cares about who, anyway, Hill doesn’t care.
Yet another matter does catch Hill’s attention: who betrayed that even Ruth feels so shaken.
Yes, just shaken, not unacceptable.
It seems Ruth isn’t willing to see this outcome, but he was mentally prepared for it and wouldn’t be deeply affected by it.
So, after considering it, Hill still set his sights on Aislin.
The complex and inexplicable sense of eeriness about her has always caught Hill’s attention.
Hill never truly considered her to be on the enemy’s side; that lady genuinely loves and respects Ruth from the bottom of her heart.
Hill could sense that kind of solemn respect and wholehearted dedication.
So, if Aislin indeed has issues... it would undoubtedly be a huge blow to her.
She clearly wouldn’t willingly betray Ruth.
However, since Ruth is shaken... forget it, it’s not certain yet, and it’s unnecessary to pre-judge her situation.
But, Hill understands, up to this point, only Aislin has given him this feeling... others wouldn’t decisively consider Kamente Tower as the trustworthy one.
Just like Ruth’s students, when this matter happened, their first reaction was suspicion that they were once again betrayed by Kamente Tower.
This is the tragedy of being a spy.
Anyone who has made mistakes in the past is, without question, the first to be suspected when things go wrong again... this is a universal rule in any world.
If you want to completely change your head and face, you cannot stay in your original place; otherwise, those prying gazes can lead those with insufficient willpower to repeat their mistakes.
Not to mention an existence like Kamente Tower.
But Hill surely wouldn’t think so... nor would he trust Kamente Tower, and Hill never places any determinations on people he’s not familiar with.
But he does trust in Draculus’ control power.
Teraxil Mage Association’s president’s renowned reputation was established entirely by Draculus himself.
Besides, if Kamente Tower indeed had issues, why would Ruth be shaken?
If that guy betrays, isn’t that just reality?
Being obedient and doing nothing would be the real miracle.
If Ruth, a suspicious personality, really entrusted his faith on Kamente Tower, that would indeed be suspicious!
So, Hill managed to bypass those mysteries and directly focus his attention on Aislin.
In the Magic Tower, many knew of the three Tower Master’s vigilance against the Soul Elixir, and even apprentice-level test subjects couldn’t keep secrets.
However, even if these matters reached Sia Tower, it wouldn’t be significant... no Magic Tower, no matter how fallen, could overlook such a threatening presence as the Soul Elixir.
The Tower of Dark Enigma’s frenzied investigations are the truest expression, and Sia Tower would only be surprised by how quickly and early they were exposed... then grant the one who chose an idiot like Prutt the most sincere ridicule and sarcasm.
But none of this is an irreparable problem.
The true peril of the Soul Elixir isn’t its fearsome side effects... but its test of human nature.
Even knowing it’s poisonous, which world isn’t occupied by those willing to take that intoxicating poison?
For ambition, for power, or for whatever, giving up a bit of humanity... and human nature is something many don’t care about.
The devil understands these things, and they would certainly exploit them.
So, what really prompted their early relocation from the Tower of Dark Enigma had little to do with the Soul Elixir.
Then... was it the Kamente Tower detached from Sia Tower’s control?
Or did Ruth’s private deeds get discovered... like his secret communications with a certain Archmage from the Tower of Despair?
This is what Hill recently discovered.
Ruth seemed to have contacted the Tower of Despair more often due to some Soul Elixir-related issues.
Then it’s more likely related to Aislin.
What exactly was discussed between them, Hill didn’t know; he only discovered a few message-carrying insects passing through the tower’s main array defenses.
If the insects carried other mages’ aura, Hill might have difficulty discerning the source.
However, ironically, he’s familiar with that aura... Hill first descended to this world through that Archmage’s powerful meteor summoning spell.
It hasn’t even been two years, yet Hill wouldn’t fail to detect it.
When Hill first sensed it, he couldn’t help but ponder once again: fate is an illusory ring formed by endless chains linked together.
No one knows if grabbing a point will take you back to the starting point, or instead, to another ring that feels like the same point.
Respecting without getting too close is the best way to interact with fate.
It might just be his whimsical fancy, but discovering that mage’s aura truly shocked Hill.
To break the Circle of Destiny, such an existence must have reached a terrifying height... recalling the memories of Teraxil and just returning from Aesces, pondering the origins of the Greek Gods... Hill suddenly felt that immense shadow of the tree covering the sky and sun.
What Teraxil’s original destiny would be, upon seeing Asmodeus’s planning of this world, Hill had some speculations.
And with roots spreading across the Multiverse, even the river of fate would ripple due to the actions of the Cosmic World Tree, it’s impossible for them not to have noticed it.
Breaking the Circle of Destiny of Teraxil can only be found outside of fate... nowhere in the Fantasy World.
As long as you exist in the Multiverse, even an ant will only form rings identical to these circles.
Only a World Without Magic, one where deities are transformed into myth and fairy tale, can break the monopoly of fate.
This really is...
At this thought, Hill felt an absurd sense of not knowing what day it was.
His existence might be an accident, yet an accident within the necessity.
The fact he was chosen is an accident, but someone being chosen is a necessity.
Hill truly exerted great effort to suppress his own Mental Sea, which had stirred up waves at the time.
Reflecting on past actions, he couldn’t help but feel a bit fortunate: fortunately, even knowing those stories, he never intended to exploit those stories for his own gain.
From the start, his visit to Toril was just an accident... an accident orchestrated by the Undead Tribe, to some extent, making it difficult to lock the Circle of Destiny.
Whether on Toril or in other worlds, Hill firmly adhered to the etiquette an external world mage should maintain.
Indeed, due to meddling by the Undead Tribe, many things have turned out differently... fate is only an unconscious control that doesn’t actively correct already altered circles.
But if Hill had involved himself excessively due to personal desires and thoughts, he was a part of the Fantasy World!
The more he did, the greater his presence, it would become easier to place the existence of the Undead Tribe beneath his own existence... if that were the case, he might unknowingly harden the circle back to its original form.
Truly terrifying.
Every step taken by Hill is a trap... thankfully, he remained true to his core.
