Chapter 1893: Chapter 470: The Farewell Finally Arrives
Although he finally gained a faint sense of freedom, Felis was far from happy:
The Sia Tower didn’t even wait for half a year before inviting the Tower of Dark Enigma to relocate.
Why?
What are they in such a hurry for?
Or, does the Tower of Dark Enigma have some dirt in the opponent’s hands?
Felis wasn’t a fool; when Ruth used such a covert method to hand him the Soul Series Legacy Book, did the Tower of Dark Enigma not seem eager to merge with the Sia Tower as the rumors suggested... Ha~ How could he not see through this?
Felis even had a feeling: compared to those who must follow Ruth to the Sia Tower, including Russell, he himself, Felis, was the fire seed that the Tower of Dark Enigma wanted to preserve.
He had been studying that legacy magic book for half a year... It was quite normal to not understand a single spell.
Thus, he had already started studying the other magic books as Russell suggested... Then he was astonished to find that these books had all been modified to standard runes.
Afterwards, he belatedly realized... Why were these books, supposedly left behind years ago, entirely written in standard runes?
There are only two possibilities... One, standard runes already existed in this world and were circulated among a select few people.
This indeed is possible, but humans have biases; who doesn’t have a preference?
Even privately created magic can’t be guaranteed to remain uncirculated, let alone something so significant.
The other, is that the book has developed its own consciousness.
Hainarson, to put it nicely, could be considered Mage Nobility, so even their children’s fairytale books are all related to magic... Like, certain diligent children who strive hard and meditate might one day be liked by a magical curio that can speak and think: these curios are basically books, occasionally speaking dolls appear.
But for books to be blessed by the Light of Magics, developing their own will, is quite normal to mages.
As for dolls... Well, they generally turn into deceptive tactics, like eating away children’s souls.
Therefore, Felis remained quite composed, and he didn’t react nervously when he found the book gradually beginning to resonate with his Mental Sea.
Upon acquiring this book, he finally confirmed his sensitivity to Soul Power.
Just like when he saw the Soul Elixir, the immediate warning in his heart prevented him from ever believing Rolando’s sweet talk.
When he saw this book, even though he felt the restless little claws try to connect with his Mental Sea, Felis only felt peace.
This indeed was merely a soul series curio... Though likely, under the long-term nurturing of potent Soul Power, it has developed somewhat human-like reactions, but only somewhat.
It’s not human, and even its ability to think is about the same as a child just beginning to understand the world.
Its stronger aspect is computing power and memory.
And for a mage, these indeed are easily achievable skills.
But what Felis continually sensed was that this book seemed related to the Tower of Dark Enigma.
He was like a miniature Tower of Dark Enigma... When Felis slowly walked through the secret passage, the first page he opened displayed the corresponding map.
Felis didn’t need to walk above ground to determine his position.
If he hadn’t felt like he was constantly ascending and at a certain point, the book he stared at displayed the map, Felis really would have suspected that during that past period, Ruth knew his every move.
He didn’t believe Ruth, stationed in the Main Tower, would see less than what the book showed!
Felis walked back and forth several times before confirming this spot’s existence... Although he was a bit amazed at Gilbert’s power, it was understandable for Felis that Hainarson’s renowned Array Master achieved this.
Magic, this thing, talent truly matters... All hard study and practice only rest on the ability to understand those basics; without it, it just won’t happen.
Though Felis indeed couldn’t understand the contents of the Soul Legacy Book, this didn’t mean he couldn’t learn the Cold Sphere.
And summon the Invisible Servant related to soul intensity, he learned swiftly.
Otherwise, you’d think he had all that time and patience to clean rooms and manage chores!
If spiritual power and Soul Power are strong enough, the summoned servant’s performance would be quite good... After all, it requires you to sketch what you want it to do in your Mental Sea when summoning.
Essentially, doing it once yourself allows the servant to learn it.
This thing is basically a puppet, and its ability to learn relies heavily on your own strength.
Felis knew, as Russell suggested, his theory knowledge was simply too weak, so he couldn’t understand... This book clearly wasn’t meant for someone just embarking on the mage’s path.
However, for Ruth, who might have noticed discrepancies but couldn’t find a solution, this book needed to be silently handed over before going to the Sia Tower.
It’s quite possible that the Tower of Dark Enigma has some special legacy information, which the Sia Tower also knows.
But whether this legacy is in Ruth’s possession, nobody seems to dare confirm.
If the Soul Series Legacy Book is the key... then Ruth indeed couldn’t be acknowledged.
Felis felt the connection on his Mental Sea, and sensed this: the aura of the previous inheritor is probably centuries old.
Very likely, after that individual had issues, this book remained dormant.
Felis wasn’t worried about anyone realizing this book was with him... After all, Ruth openly gave these new books, all rewritten in standard runes, to Gilbert.
No matter how insane, nobody would suspect that Ruth left the Tower of Dark Enigma’s last hope in the hands of someone like him, a pitiful failure who needed the Soul Elixir to advance to mage.
Whether or not his talents lie in the Soul Department, who would trust someone who consumed that cursed item?
Especially since he belongs to the Kamente Tower faction.
Ruth is truly mad, truly; Felis would no longer marvel at the Archmage’s favoritism towards Gilbert... compared to Ruth, Gilbert’s occasional madness amounts to nothing.
This is the true madman!
Who in their right mind would entrust the Tower of Dark Enigma’s last resort to someone like Felis?
Archmage Ruth’s perplexing methods truly only left Felis fearing what the future might hold.
So much so that his yearning for sunlight, before even reaching the tunnel exit, turned him back... Maybe he should wait longer, till the Hainarson Family completes the house, and then have a chat with Ulrich!
He now only felt that the sun was too harsh, it was Ulrich’s gentle sarcasm that suited him better.
-----------------
"Teacher, are we really leaving just like that?" Russell quietly inquired, gazing upon the calm figure of ’Gilbert’ standing by the window, observing outside.
After the visit when he delivered the book to Felis, the Archmage’s satisfied smile and shift in topic made Russell understand... Archmage Ruth handing that book to Felis was probably only known to him and ’Gilbert’.
His teacher showed Russell with the utmost casualness:
Whether Felis chose to share was their own friendship, but best not to bring up this matter above ground... indicating that their Side Tower wasn’t necessarily safe at all times.
Russell suddenly found himself unsure whether to be happy for Felis or... In the end, it was a medley of feelings.
From being abandoned by his parents and struggling out of the clutches of sinister poisons, Felis’s future clearly marked a huge transformation... but this change relied solely on him.
Ruth only offered him hope, whether he could embrace it, the Tower Master clearly wouldn’t fret... Moreover, it wouldn’t concern him whether Felis could survive this challenging transformation.
Russell decided to stop investigating the book’s true nature and buried this matter deep in his heart.
And to this day, he hadn’t spoken of it to Carpenter.
But upon receiving relocation notice... it wasn’t even permission, but directly notifying of the deadline to leave... Russell still felt a crestfallen panic.
Standing beside him, Carpenter’s face also bore evident confusion and reluctance.
She knew very well that after leaving this time, seeing her family would be difficult.
