Chapter 1891: Chapter 468: Felis Faces Another Choice

Felis couldn’t suppress his cold sneer: neither Gilbert nor Ruth could verbally attack a low-level unlucky fellow like him.

Russell’s linguistic skills were truly strong, being able to repeat the Archmage’s original words in such an irritating manner ... The key was, he could understand it, and it was easy to figure out what those two’s original words were.

The most important thing is, if he figured it out himself, did he really need Russell to say the original words again?

Although those two did not explicitly call him useless... once you start thinking that way, nothing you hear will sound good.

Felis could only accept it.

Is all of Russell’s talent spent on talking?

"Sometimes, I really think, even if the sky were falling, your words could block it." He still couldn’t completely hold back.

"You really think highly of me. I wouldn’t dare take on such a great responsibility." Russell said with a smile.

"What’s got you worked up, that you had to come to me?"

"Because as I was walking down, I recalled some beautiful moments from the past, and suddenly remembered how annoying you were back then." Russell tilted his head before continuing with a smile.

Felis’s face twisted ... he knew just how annoying he was when he was a teenager: after all, he had just recently found out about his origins and felt that the world was unfair to him, envying and coveting those true Hainarsons.

If earlier he merely envied those more talented than himself, back then, he truly wanted to switch his blood with anyone else’s.

The reason he’s able to open his mind like this now is because he’s been repeatedly hit by reality ... abandoned one time after another fully ... so, he finally learned what was truly important in life.

Actually, Felis admired himself for choosing the only right path among several options, but in reality, it’s because he truly loved himself, so he wouldn’t leave himself with no way out.

"What’s gotten into you?" he finally could only speak slowly.

Russell tilted his head: "My teacher taught me to cherish the past, to walk a new path with beautiful memories."

Felis was a bit confused.

"Like you, even though you’ve always been unlucky, weren’t there also happy days in the initial apprentice dormitory?" Russell explained simply... Although he didn’t know if Felis, who spent most of his time in misfortune, would feel the same, Russell truly believed that Felis’s only beautiful memories could be from that time.

He said leisurely: "And those beautiful memories were because of Ulrich’s kindness, so ..."

"Did something happen to Ulrich?" Felis suddenly interrupted him.

"Hmm? Why do you ask?

"In the Hainarson Clan, everyone has their motives, everyone has their desires, and most kindness comes with conditions... including my mother.

Even Carpenter, who is willing to understand my difficulties, does so because of the close blood relationship between us." Felis chuckled, "So I love my sister Carpenter, but I won’t feel grateful because of that love.

That’s natural, it’s the connection that already exists between us.

But Ulrich, who was willing to shelter me when I was still a normal child, is truly ... kind.

You know?

He didn’t have to do it, after all, whom did I have value in the eyes of back then?

Even my biological mother chose to abandon me ... although I don’t blame her, preserving one’s own life in the face of powerlessness is the norm in this world.

Nevertheless, it still makes me sad.

Instead, it was Ulrich who gave me a last shred of hope ... and truly didn’t expect anything from me.

Although they said it was for the image of the family, but ... with my identity, almost everyone knew, what face of the Hainarsons could there be?

He wasn’t sheltering me because I might be useful in the future, but because if he didn’t, I might really have been done for."

Russell nodded as if suddenly realizing ... compared to needing a reminder to feel Ulrich’s gentleness, Felis was the one who felt it more directly.

Or rather, because Felis had experienced kindness, he didn’t stray when he was met with adversity and chose not to take the path that seemed easier to him.

Ulrich ... Russell pursed his lips slightly, maybe he didn’t care, but it really has a lot to do with why more Mage Apprentices from the young Hainarson generation were willing to do the right thing.

"It’s nothing, I just didn’t quite understand at first why my teacher didn’t mind the small troubles Ulrich’s kindness brought.

And he is more than willing to stand behind such an Ulrich, helping him clear those troubles." Russell tilted his head, "But until my teacher said it, thinking of the past me, I realized, I too had been protected by such gentle kindness along the way, allowing me to smoothly arrive at today.

It was me, who forgot ... ah, no, maybe it was because it was too natural, so that feeling was overlooked."

No wonder this guy suddenly was reminiscing about the past.

Felis smirked, "You’re overthinking it... Mage Gilbert is the one closely related to Ulrich.

If he thought Ulrich shouldn’t be like this, he would have forced him to change long ago.

Not doing so means he thinks Ulrich is better this way."

Russell squinted with a smile: "I am a bit too ... unaware of my own limitations."

He certainly wasn’t unaware of this ... only, knowing that his teacher wasn’t Gilbert at times led him to misjudge things.

But there was no need to discuss this with Felis.

Upon learning that Ulrich had only caused some minor issues due to his soft-heartedness, Felis no longer said much, he merely shifted the topic lightly: "Carpenter, why hasn’t she come out during this time?"

"She’s, well, familiarizing herself with 1st-tier spells."

"All of them? Is she crazy?"

"It’s not that she has to learn them all, but she needs to go through each, to understand a bit of the principle, that’s our teacher’s requirement." Russell raised an eyebrow, "We’re not like you, we don’t need to form combat power quickly.

Theoretical studies, for now, are the most important for us.

After a basic understanding of spell theory, we can choose the spells we feel most sensitive to for learning, and it will be much easier."

He certainly wouldn’t explain the true reasons clearly, nor would he reveal how special the magic books he and Carpenter had.

How could ordinary magic books contain so much theoretical knowledge to be read?

Many Mages don’t even understand all Magic Systems when they reach high-level ... and his family, except for necromancy, is proficient in almost all others.

Those basic books, every time Russell read them, he gained a new understanding ... because each time he understood more, so when re-reading, he grasped deeper knowledge.

Not everyone can do this, Russell truly felt that even the self-proclaimed god-equal Tower Master Lady Sia of Sia Tower, didn’t have such ability.

Faced with Russell’s evasiveness, Felis certainly wouldn’t be so clueless as to pursue further questions, so he merely smiled: "Then help me say hi to Carpenter!

Let’s hope when we meet again, both she and I will be well."

He could only blend those emotions, those unsaid words into the phrase ’be well’.

Russell nodded, and after reaching the door, he turned back to add one more sentence: "Whether you’ve understood or not, I still need to remind you one more time.

The reason Archmage Ruth publically gave you the book is naturally because he either is certain he can get it or he has already gained Archmage Karmante’s approval.

When Prutt disappears, you should be free.

Although Rolando might still be around then, he, hmm, it probably won’t make much difference if he’s alive or dead.

Therefore, you actually can also go to Sia Tower.

Prutt shouldn’t live until that time.

You should think carefully ... the reason the teacher has not said anything and hasn’t mentioned the Hainarson Clan matters again is to leave you the choice.

Staying here, the Hainarson Clan can’t help you much, you can only rely on yourself.

But over at Sia Tower ... you actually have other choices."
