Chapter 568: Chapter 409: Heading to the Deep Forest

The Snow Tiger Witch and the Snow Tiger Tribe Leader stood there with a group of their tribesmen, a heavy silence hanging over the courtyard.

"You’re not even staying a single night before you leave?"

The aged voice of the Snow Tiger Witch held a plaintive note.

Wu Yue rubbed her nose. "Well, I figured the sooner I go, the sooner I can come back."

’So much for my plan to sneak away.’ Could she really admit that she just couldn’t stand these kinds of farewells?

"Wuyue, let me go with you! How can you travel through the forest all by yourself?"

The speaker was a Beastman Warrior—the only one besides Yuan Lang who had ever carried her. His eyes were filled with concern.

Wu Yue gave a little cough and turned toward the courtyard gate as it opened with a CREAK.

The others turned at the sound to see the Flying Eagle Witch walking in with several Flying Eagle Tribe Beastman Warriors. "We’ll escort Wuyue to the edge of the deep forest," she announced.

The Snow Tiger Tribe Beastman Warriors: "..."

’Big deal, so you can fly!’

In the end, a group of burly Snow Tiger Tribe warriors with reddened eyes could only watch helplessly as their Lady Wuyue climbed onto the back of a Flying Eagle Beastman Warrior.

’It was so frustrating! Why can’t Snow Tigers have wings?’

It was as if a door to a new world had opened. The Snow Tiger Tribe Beastman Warriors suddenly thought that if they had wings, they would look incredibly cool.

"Witch, Clan Leader, everyone," Wu Yue said, "I’m leaving now. As soon as I find Yuan Lang and the others, we’ll catch up to you."

Wu Yue turned back, her expression wistful as she bid them farewell.

But...

But those rascals were busy prodding and examining the wings of the Flying Eagle Beastman Warriors. Where was the slightest trace of sadness or reluctance on their handsome faces?

"These wings don’t look like anything special. When my Rank is high enough, I’m going to evolve a pair of white ones. They’ll look amazing."

"If we Snow Tigers grow wings, we can’t keep being called Snow Tigers, right?"

"Flying Tigers?"

"Flying Snow Tigers?"

Finally, the Flying Eagle Beastman, unable to bear any more of the shameless tigers’ manhandling, let out a sharp cry, flapped his wings, and soared into the sky.

’Seeing his feathers drift away with every flap, his heart ached so much he could weep. Those rascally tigers! They must be jealous of my wings.’

’Plucking my feathers on the sly... Shameless!’

Wu Yue’s expression stiffened. She turned her head away and, feigning composure, patted the back of the Flying Eagle Beastman Warrior she was riding. "Let’s go."

’For crying out loud. I’ve wasted my affection on these rascally tigers.’

The Flying Eagle Witch also bid farewell to the Snow Tiger Witch before climbing onto the back of her own Beastman Warrior.

Only when all the Flying Eagle Beastman Warriors had become tiny black dots disappearing into the sky did the Snow Tiger Witch and the Snow Tiger Tribe Leader turn around, the corners of their mouths twitching.

"Alright, you can stop the act," the leader said. "They’re long gone. They’re not coming back."

As his words faded, the Snow Tiger Tribe Beastman Warriors, who had just been heatedly discussing wings, suddenly began to sob. One by one, they shoved their huge fists into their mouths, their teary eyes fixed on the spot where their Wuyue had disappeared.

’Still, it’d be great to have wings,’ they thought. ’Then we wouldn’t need these Black Feathered Flying Eagle Beastmen to carry our Wuyue. Wouldn’t being a Flying Tiger be awesome?’

Wuyue, however, was oblivious to the sorrow of the Snow Tiger Tribe Beastman Warriors.

"When do you think we’ll reach the edge of the deep forest?"

The Flying Eagle Beastman Warrior she was riding considered for a moment. "We should be there by sunrise."

’Sunrise...’

’That means I still have some time. I can’t let it go to waste.’

"System, I’m going to rest for a bit. You’d better protect your dear host, okay?"

Curled into a ball, the System yawned. "Dog Host, do you have some kind of delusion about how you sleep? A bed that takes up half the room isn’t big enough for your tossing and turning, and you want to sleep on someone’s back?"

"That’s exactly why I need you to watch me."

A look of disbelief spread across the System’s small, furry face. "Look at my tiny body! You want *me* to watch over *you*?"

With that, it lifted a little paw to inspect it. "How about this? If it looks like you’re about to fall, I’ll give you a good scratch."

Wu Yue: "..."

Her heart sank as she looked at the sharp claws her System had hidden behind its little paw pads.

"You know, I suddenly feel wide awake. I could probably get down and run a few kilometers, no problem."

System: "..."

’Heh. The Dog Host is such a wimp.’

But a moment later, a certain female who had just declared how wide awake she was began to let out soft little snores.

Up ahead, the curled-up System heard the familiar, soft snores, and every last hair on its little body stood on end.
