Chapter 522: Chapter 393: The Chosen Witch and Poor Teng Qian (Part 2)
"What is the nature of your awakened witch power?"
The witch was placed on a beast skin mat by a Beastman. She straightened her back with effort as witch power pulsed in her palm.
A moment later, a small, pitch-black insect appeared in her palm. "I am a Worm Witch."
The pitch-black Poisonous Insect writhed in the female’s palm, its head popping out from time to time and twisting about as if searching for something. It looked very lively.
The Lord Wizards all nodded in satisfaction.
"Her talent is quite good. Has she already reached Yellow Rank Third Tier?"
The one who spoke this time wasn’t the male Healing Witch from before, but a female Wizard on the far left.
The witch quickly nodded respectfully. "Yes, I just advanced to Yellow Rank Third Tier a few days ago."
"Heal her. We’ll take this little female back with us. She can be my disciple."
Evidently, this female Lord Wizard was very pleased with the witch.
Only after the healing began did the witch truly understand the gap between an ordinary witch and a Healing Witch, just as the Salt Witch had described.
The wound on her leg, which the Salt Witch had only barely been able to control, healed in a matter of breaths under the Healing Witch’s care.
"Witch power can only heal superficial wounds. The bone in your leg was also injured, so you must get more rest. For the time being, have a Beastman carry you when you need to go out."
The witch did her best to suppress her trembling as she bowed. "Thank you, Lord Witch."
After returning to her own cave, the witch lifted the beast skin covering her leg. Staring at her fully recovered limbs, large teardrops fell from her eyes.
"Polar Forest, Snow Tiger Tribe, Yuan Lang, Wuyue..."
「A few days later, in the Snow Tiger Tribe.」
Wuyue and Yuan Lang were back in the Storage Cave.
"How is it? Has any of it spoiled?"
Seeing the little female’s nervous expression, Yuan Lang felt a little tense himself.
But fortunately, the results were good. The cured meat had no strange smell.
Wuyue giggled and looked at Yuan Lang. "Yuanlang Warrior, is the hot water ready yet?"
Yuan Lang’s mouth twitched. "Can you please just call me by my name normally?"
Though he complained, he didn’t slow down his work. He added a few more pieces of firewood to the stove, and the flames grew larger.
A moment later, after heating for a long time, the water came to a rolling boil.
"Let me borrow your claws for a second."
The weakling Wu Yue picked up a piece of cured meat and said with a grin.
Yuan Lang held out his well-defined fingers. With no visible effort, sharp claws extended from his rounded fingertips.
"No matter how many times I see it, it’s still so magical."
Wu Yue murmured, then looked up at Yuan Lang. "In your country, would this form of yours be called a monster?"
"That’s right. And for a human, you’re pretty brazen in front of a monster like me. Careful, or I might just eat you."
Wu Yue chuckled. "Eating people is against the law."
With that, she pointed to the top of the cured meat. "Poke a hole right here."
The Beastman glanced at her small hands, which had turned pale from the effort of holding the meat. He took it from her, and with a flick of his finger, a hole appeared.
"Rope."
’Tsk tsk. He really is the perfect ’house-husband,’ good at everything.’
Wu Yue sighed in admiration as she handed him the grass rope.
Holding the cured meat, Yuan Lang looked at the little female beside him. "Is this all it needs?"
"Blanch the meat in the boiling water to wash off some of the saltiness on the surface."
Yuan Lang frowned at her words. ’If he washes the salt off, won’t the meat spoil?’
But seeing the little female’s confident expression, he—a complete novice when it comes to cured meat—chose to obey.
He dipped the cured meat into the pot, swished it around, and then pulled it out. "Is this good?"
"Yep, yep! Very nice!"
She often spouted words that no one could understand. Yuan Lang was already used to it, so he selectively listened to the first part and automatically ignored the rest.
And so, one of them threaded and blanched the meat while the other hung the processed pieces on a rack to dry. In about the time it took to eat a meal, all the cured meat was processed.
"Have you ever had cured meat before?"
Wu Yue asked, watching the Beastman as he cleaned the stone pot and stove.
"Of course I have."
Yuan Lang looked at her with amusement. "But this kind of food isn’t popular in the Capital City. It’s considered crude, something only people on the frontiers eat."
"Wuyue! Wuyue! Holy crap! Help! Help!"
As they were talking, a series of utterly miserable-sounding shouts came from outside the cave.
Wuyue and Yuan Lang exchanged a look. "That sounds like someone’s getting assaulted! What the heck is going on?"
