Chapter 2118: Chapter 2318: Action!!!
After that, Hao Jian asked Baldy a few more related questions. Baldy could answer honestly every time, and everything matched up, each point lining up with the plan they’d set earlier. So Hao Jian didn’t say much more. He handed everything over to Baldy to handle; as for himself, he was in no mood to get involved anymore.
His mind wasn’t fully on this. As far as he was concerned, as long as this thing developed along the planned track, that was enough. The rest, he wasn’t going to worry about. It was like a dessert after a meal—nice to have but not necessary. If you had it, it was pleasant and could lift your mood; if you didn’t, it was no big deal, you could always swap it for something else to brighten the day.
After saying a few more things to Baldy, Hao Jian walked out, found a roadside stall, and had a round of skewers. Satisfied, he pulled out a few napkins to wipe his mouth, then paid the boss and settled the bill before walking away, quite pleased.
He felt his interest suddenly perk up again. Looking up, he saw an internet café not far ahead. He didn’t even know why. Normally he never went to places like that—boring. And if he wanted to go online, he could have Spice Ginger bring him a top-tier computer setup anytime. The hardware in an internet café was just plain trash.
But right now, maybe because he’d just finished the barbecue and had nothing to do, he actually lifted his feet and walked straight toward the internet café. After stepping inside and looking around, he saw that most of the people online were students and a few street punks. He wasn’t interested in them. He took out his ID card and said to the network admin, "Hey admin, I wanna get online."
He didn’t expect the network admin to be half-asleep. She’d clearly been sneaking a nap while there were no customers, only to be startled awake when Hao Jian suddenly walked in. She looked up, reached out to take his ID, and started operating according to the usual procedure.
Hao Jian’s attention wasn’t on her at first; he was watching a little grade-schooler playing some game called "lu ah lu". But when the admin handed his ID back to him, he glanced up out of habit and froze for a second. This... this network admin was a girl, and a very pretty one at that.
"Here. You want your ID back or not?" the network admin girl said to Hao Jian unhappily.
Hao Jian had only looked at her a few extra times and already got hit with the girl’s annoyed expression. He snapped back to himself, realized he’d stared too much and the admin girl had probably taken him for some kind of creep. He just smiled. This really was a misunderstanding.
The love of beauty is universal. He’d just been surprised that a network admin girl could look this fresh and pretty, so he’d unconsciously looked at her a bit longer. He really didn’t have any other thoughts. But he didn’t want her to keep misunderstanding him, so he quickly came to his senses and took his ID back.
At the same time, he pulled out a red bill and handed it over to the network admin girl, saying, "Just charge a hundred."
The girl blinked. This internet café was right next to a school, and most of the customers were students. How much money could students have? They usually scrimped and saved just to spend it here. So seeing Hao Jian immediately top up a hundred, she was understandably a bit stunned.
But she only froze for a moment before taking the money and starting to process it for him.
"Okay, a hundred credited. Your account is your ID number, password is 123456," the network admin girl said to Hao Jian without looking up.
No need to say it, her voice was actually pretty nice too. While Hao Jian had been sneaking glances during the top-up and membership process, quite a few of the boys gaming nearby had also quietly glanced over in this direction. They were all guys, all had been young and hot-blooded once, so Hao Jian knew exactly what was going through their heads without needing to ask.
To avoid making the admin girl think he really was some kind of perv, Hao Jian didn’t say anything else. He put away his ID, memorized the account and password she’d given him, then headed into the gaming area, ready to find a decent seat and play a few rounds to relax.
However, just then, when his gaze swept across the room, his expression suddenly froze for a couple of beats, a bit of surprise in his eyes. As he scanned the place, he’d actually spotted someone he knew—and not just someone he knew, but someone very familiar—sitting at a computer, slaughtering enemies. Beside the monitor was a pile of snacks and a bunch of cigarette butts. She looked completely absorbed.
That very familiar person was Liang Xiaohan, who at this hour, logically speaking, should have been in the classroom at evening self-study.
Hao Jian just stared, completely dumbfounded. He’d only come in to get online, play a few games, and unwind, treat it as a mood booster, but he had never expected to run into Liang Xiaohan here. This level of surprise was honestly a bit much. He didn’t react for a moment.
"Double kill! Triple kill! Die... die already!" Liang Xiaohan shouted excitedly as text kept flashing across the screen.
A few seconds later, she was so mad she almost smashed the keyboard. "Fuck! Who the hell! Stealing my kill!"
As she cursed, her fingers flew over the keys. She was clearly shifting her attention to flaming the guy who’d snatched her kill and ruined her pentakill.
Her voice was loud. If Hao Jian hadn’t noticed her earlier, he’d probably have found her now just by her shouting. At the same time, plenty of people turned to look at her when they heard her voice. If at any other time someone screamed like that while gaming, someone would’ve already gone over to pick a fight.
But Liang Xiaohan was that pretty. The moment she walked in, she’d drawn a lot of attention, and on top of that, her aura was strong. Who would dare go over and say anything right now? That said, the real reason was still that she was a girl—and a good-looking one.
Sometimes things are just that unfair. When it’s a boy versus a girl, the outcome can be totally different.
Liang Xiaohan, though, was fully immersed in the game. Her eyes were glued to the screen. She clearly wasn’t affected by any of this and hadn’t noticed a thing, having automatically tuned out everyone around her.
Hao Jian chuckled and quietly walked over. He clapped a hand on Liang Xiaohan’s shoulder, planning to call out to her. But the moment his hand landed, with a cigarette still dangling from her mouth, she grabbed the ashtray with one hand and flung it at him.
"Fuck off!" Liang Xiaohan snapped. She was in the middle of a game and, feeling the hand on her shoulder, just assumed it belonged to some guy, so she automatically decided it was another idiot trying to stir up trouble. So she reacted purely on instinct.
Hao Jian was startled. If he hadn’t reacted fast enough just now, that ashtray would’ve smashed right into him and he’d be covered in ash. He pulled a disgusted face. He hadn’t expected the school’s former Goddess to have such a rough side.
But thinking about it, it was actually perfectly normal. This was what Liang Xiaohan was really like. She’d just toned it down a bit since coming here, not as arrogant and overbearing as before, almost like a different person. So he’d subconsciously thought this behavior was out of character—but in truth, it was the most in-character thing in the world.
Seeing how violent her reaction was the first time he patted her, and that she still hadn’t recognized him, he patted her on the shoulder again. Maybe the first time had already annoyed her, and on top of that she was in the middle of a crucial kill—she’d already gotten a double kill, and there was a low-health enemy hero right in front of her that she could take down any second.
And just then, that hand landed on her shoulder again. And then...
