Chapter 1504: Chapter 1504: I’ll Play Chess with You Another Day

Many performances had already taken place, and the final act was a duet by Jiang Na and Xiao Keyi.

Jiang Na, being Xiao Keyi’s friend, had arrived early and the two of them had been practicing this song together for half a month.

Playing the piano for them was the famous artist Shuyuan. Shuyuan was wearing a light blue evening gown today, looking particularly elegant,

while Xiao Keyi looked just like a little princess, in a white gown adorned with silver decorations, and wearing a pair of custom-made crystal shoes from abroad—something most people would never see.

Knowing it was her good friend’s birthday, Jiang Na didn’t dress too conspicuously, just a simple red dress, looking beautiful and gracious.

Seeing Xiao Keyi, Xu Ke’s face finally lit up with a smile. It had been a long time since he’d seen her, and now he felt his heart flutter. Xiao Keyi used to wear only light makeup, but today she was stunningly beautiful.

The elderly Mr. Xu was used to such scenes; he’d seen all kinds of performances. But now he could only keep his eyes open to watch, since the one on stage was his granddaughter-in-law.

Even though he was quite tired, the old man perked up his spirits, asking for several cups of coffee to keep awake.

Looking beside him at the young man who was completely absorbed, it seemed Xu Ke’s affection for Xiao Keyi was more than just a little; it was extreme. That little girl must indeed have some use.

The elderly Mr. Xu suddenly had an idea—if he could endear himself to that girl, then wouldn’t he be able to win over his grandson as well?

Moreover, if Xu Ke agreed to join the Xu Group and the familial interactions with Wang Cuixia kept happening, there must still be lingering feelings from the past, which couldn’t just vanish. At this moment, the old man felt he’d discovered a new hope, determined to treat that girl well, to restore everything to its ideal state.

"How clever I am! Isn’t this the perfect solution? How could I have been so confused before? Now I finally understand. If this could repair their relationship, it’s worth every effort. I was too naive previously, but now I’ve finally figured it out."

Upon this realization, the old man’s face wore a smug smile. Meanwhile, Yu Hao, seeing how much happier Mr. Xu seemed and noticing there were no bodyguards around,

walked over with a cup of tea. Now he also understood; Mr. Xu particularly enjoyed drinking tea, just like Xiao Keyi’s father.

Determined to seize this opportunity, no matter what happened, Yu Hao intended to cling onto Mr. Xu. If all else failed, he could leverage Xu Ke, after all, Xu Ke could be used as well. Yu Hao’s mind was spinning with plans.

Carefully holding the teacup, because everyone was watching the performance, no one really noticed that Mr. Xu was staring at the table.

Suddenly spotting a teacup, Mr. Xu immediately raised his eyes alertly, recognizing the young man he’d seen before, who now seemed reckless—had he come back? If he was seeking humiliation, Mr. Xu didn’t mind obliging.

"How dare you come back here? If you’re so determined to die, I can see to it myself without you going through all this trouble!"

Mr. Xu’s voice was particularly low, so those nearby didn’t hear, but Yu Hao did. A shock ran through him, yet he stood his ground.

Otherwise, this opportunity would be wasted; he certainly wasn’t willing to let it slip away.

"I admit I was wrong to have disturbed you earlier, so I’m here to apologize, hoping for your forgiveness. I specially brewed a cup of tea for you. This tea combines rainwater dew, making it flavorful and fragrant. Would you like to try it?"

As Yu Hao said this, he pushed the tea forward again. But Mr. Xu had no interest whatsoever in accepting tea from others, giving Yu Hao a cursory glance.

"Young man, I advise you not to waste your efforts. I neither yield to force nor flattery. If you keep this up, I won’t hesitate to embarrass you. Stop trying to please me—your intentions are too obvious. Many are more capable than you. Why should I accept your goodwill?"

After Mr. Xu had finished speaking, he expected the young man to have some self-awareness. Unexpectedly, Yu Hao showed none, even believing that Mr. Xu could be won over. If Mr. Xu was willing to speak to him, there was still hope, so Yu Hao grew less fearful.

"Mr. Xu, perhaps we can chat some more. I notice you often play chess on social media. Do you enjoy it? If you do, I’d be happy to join you for a game or two, just hoping you’d go easy on me and give me a chance."

Yu Hao had clearly done his homework better this time than the last.

But Mr. Xu was more concerned with his family’s future. His son and grandson seemed indifferent to family, so playing chess was the least of his concerns. Family matters took precedence over chess.

"It seems you’ve learned quite a bit about me, but I’m really not interested in chess."

Mr. Xu’s patience was wearing thin. He didn’t want to ruin his granddaughter-in-law’s birthday banquet, so he resisted the urge to have Yu Hao removed. Instead, Yu Hao mistook Mr. Xu’s demeanor as acceptance of his apology.

Feeling pleased, Yu Hao offered the teacup again. "Since Mr. Xu isn’t interested in chess now, there’s always another day. Whenever you’re ready, I’d always be willing to accompany you for a game."

Yu Hao spoke with a particular familiarity, but this was when Mr. Xu realized that this young man had dared to call him ’grandfather’. His brow furrowed as two bodyguards appeared behind him. The bodyguards promptly seized Yu Hao and dragged him away, so everyone watching the performance could see.

As Yu Hao came to his senses, he shouted.

"Mr. Xu, I can play chess with you another day. Don’t be angry now. I can even play with you right away—why the sudden anger?"

The bodyguards had reached their limit. They had wanted to throw him out for a while. Unfortunately, Mr. Xu had been reluctant to do so. The man must have been out of his mind, they thought.
