Chapter 53: 53. A Supreme Water Mage?

" I am sorry, young master..." The escort guide clasped his hands in apology as they found themselves in the backyard of the little girl’s home.

She had persuaded them to join her for her coming of age ceremony.

Today was the day she turned seven, a gathering of family and friends to witness the manifestation of her ability.

It was supposed to be a small gathering, yet the backyard was packed with soldiers and citizens alike.

The young girl had gone around town inviting everyone she saw.

Leading to her encounter with Alaric. Before they knew it, they had joined the celebration, Alaric’s trip to the tower delayed.

But he didn’t mind.

He was curious about the coming of age of a water mage, maybe he would learn something from it.

A local bard played, the children dancing around, adults engaged in small talk.

Alaric was pulled into their play.

He, an adult in the body of a child forced to jump up and down with a couple of kids.

Most in this situation would have declined but he joined them without hesitation. free𝑤ebnovel.com

In this world, he was a child, there wasn’t any reason to behave otherwise unless the situation demanded it.

This was basically an undercover operation, and he was playing the role of a child.

Alone, one might easily notice his maturity, but with children he blended in.

He would never initiate the play, unless with an ulterior motive, but if invited he would join without hesitation.

" It’s almost time..." Kai’s mother drew attention to herself as she banged on a pot with a laddle.

The crowd turned their attention to her, children halting in their play.

Kai stepped out of the backdoor adorned in a beautiful blue gown, plain yet carrying the allure of an angel.

Her hair neatly tied into a bun.

She bowed respectfully, the crowd clapping at her show of nobility.

She wasn’t usually this refined.

" What happens next..." Alaric glued his eyes to her, waiting to see what would ensue.

She walked towards a table, a clear bowl of water stationed at the centre.

Before her mother could give her the cue, she dipped her hand in the water, expecting it to rise with her will as her mother always did, yet nothing happened.

The crowd burst into laughter.

" It’s not time yet Kai..."

She laughed nervously, tear glistening in her eyes in embarrassment.

" It’s not time yet, honey..." Her mother came to her side, pointing to the sky.

" You were born around noon, when the sun was at the centre..." The girl looked up. She frowned. " But it’s at the centre..."

To her, the sun was basically at the centre, but in reality it was a few minutes off.

They didn’t have proper means to tell the time.

Only the nobility possessed a clock. For regular folk, they had to rely on instinct and the sun.

...

12:15 pm (Not that anyone knew.)

Alaric was the first to notice, blue wisps of energy gathering around her small frame.

"Is that her awakening..." he thought, leaning closer, observing intently.

Maybe there was something to learn from it.

Something to help him use the water element.

A minute later...

"Hey, it has begun..." someone in the crowd pointed out.

The blue wisps of energy that looked like blue dots were now visible to the rest.

" Mommy blue water spirits " Kai jumped excitedly as she noticed the blue wisps.

She had seen the same around other kids during their awakening.

She felt a cold, serene feeling washing over her as the blue wisps made their way into her body through her pores.

Alaric, curious unconsciously drew some his way.

The crowd, who were cheering in excitement, paused, noticing the blue wisps drifting towards them.

"Huh..." Everyone had a look of confusion.

An unprecedented incident was occurring.

Elemental spirits diverting from the awakener.

Afraid of the unknown, they gave way to it, the blue wisps surrounding Alaric momentarily.

"What’s going on..." the escort guard was the first to break the silence, Alaric put on the spot.

"F*ck," he cursed.

He had only willed a portion of it to him in order to inspect it personally, sure he might gain an epiphany from it.

Yet when he called for a wisp, the rest, like ducklings following a mother duck, followed behind it.

He quickly reacted, sidestepping as the rest did, the blue wisps passing by him as they did everyone else.

"Where is it going..." Kai exclaimed as most of the blue wisps, lesser spirits meant to grant the power of a first resonance, were moving away from her.

"I need to send them back..." Alaric panicked.

He, who had willed the blue spirits to bypass him, willed them to return.

The blue wisps, like a roller coaster, rose between the crowd, curving upward back to Kai.

They descended, washing over her and resuming the absorption.

Everyone stood stunned in silence, an incident like this had never happened.

The elemental spirits taking a detour during a child’s awakening.

"Could that little girl be cursed or something..." Alaric sharply turned to a plump elderly woman as she made the comment.

His pupils dilated in panick.

"Have I caused a misunderstanding..."

"Why would you think that..." another inquired.

"The spirits don’t behave like this unless that child already has something in her. Can’t you see it’s taking so long..."

"For all we know, it could be a demon’s spell..."

Alaric’s heart lurched.

"What have I done..."

The image of the children he couldn’t save flashed in his mind.

He couldn’t allow another mistake to ruin this child

He wanted to help, wanted to say something, do anything that could help.

The spirits heard him.

His will manifesting in the form of whirlpool revolving around the girl.

"What now..." he cursed internally.

"A supreme..." one of the guards exclaimed, eyes widened in shock.

The wild phenomenon and the ridiculous amount of water spirits could only be attributed to one loved by the element.

Ancient texts made mention of such a phenomenon.

Understanding the element makes you a great mage, but the greatest mage is given understanding by the element.

"You are right..."

Others chimed in, recognizing the unprecedented phenomenon.

"Kai, Kai..." they cheered for the young girl.

"The champion of water is born..." ƒгeewebnovёl.com

"Huh, am I not the champion..." Alaric tilted his head in confusion.
