Chapter 45: 45. Divine Realm of water

The realm of the divine.

A land beyond the clouds, above the reach of the tallest mountains, and hidden from the rulers of wind and sky.

Most believed it to be in the sky, believed it to be in the same space as them, yet reality said otherwise.

A realm said to house the numerous Gods and Goddesses of the world of Chroma, a realm fitting for their omnipotence.

A realm hidden in the crevices of space and time, another dimension sharing the same space as the world of Chroma, parallel yet holding no volume, the same yet an entirely different world.

At the eastern part of this world lay an endless blue, like the ocean, but unlike it, it stood above, reflecting the shifting clouds below.

Creating the illusion of clouds above and below, a beautiful, breathtaking scenario.

The clouds dense, so dense it looked possible to walk on, and it was, as numerous humanoid blue wisps of energy walked across it to their various destinations.

These were not ordinary creatures, but spirits of water, blue wisps responsible for rain, precipitation, and the balance of water across the realm.

They moved constantly, heading towards heaps of clouds shaped like brick houses.

Each for their own purpose, for a duty that could not be delayed.

Rivers twisting around in the clouds, its path crossing the sky like a roller coaster.

Aquatic life seen swimming around joyfully.

From simple creatures like the salmon to transcendent creatures like the water dragon, they lived in harmony.

The rivers sourced from a giant lake at the centre of the realm, as massive as an enclosed ocean; from it, many more diverged, forming a network of water bodies across the realm.

At the centre of the lake stood a massive mountain of ice, at its apex a mountain fortress, no, a castle made of clear ice.

Trapped within the ice surged waves that seemed to threaten to break the castle walls, yet it still stood, not even a crack to show diminished durability.

The ocean above poured out pillars, made not of stone but of precipitates.

Pillars linking the water above to the lake below.

Snow fell in the north, straight like a giant column.

At the south, rain rushed down like a waterfall. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Eastward fell mist, slow, like descending clouds.

And hail fell heavily at the west, pounding vigorously against the surface of the lake.

Four pillars, representing the four states of water, stood as a testament to the ever-changing nature of water.

"FIDDLES..." A voice echoed from the castle, so loud the blue wisps of energy momentarily paused, all turning in the direction of the mountain of ice.

No further noise from it; they seemed to shake their heads in resignation, knowing who could have made such ruckus before going their way.

"Hey, Maria, do you want to burst my eardrums?" A flick followed after these words.

A blue-skinned woman, with almost identical features to Maria except for her skin and clearer maturity, glared at Maria.

"Sorry, sister. It’s just..." Maria, holding a reddened forehead, looked into the large pond at the centre of the courtyard.

A courtyard furnished with aquatic plants from coral reefs; Ludwigia plants, which should otherwise only grow underwater, flourished as if they belonged.

Projected in the pond was Alaric, his body slammed hard against the lake floor as the water fell, lightning following.

But before he could rebound from the momentum of the lake, a flash explosion erupted from his form, the entirety of the lake evaporating in an instant, rushing up like a volcanic eruption.

The lightning dragon pushed bark, dissaptaing under the force of the eruption.

"You mean the champion?" the blue-skinned woman said, with raised eyebrows, turning her attention to the pond.

"The champion..."

"Is it our champion...?"

"...." Several women joined in the conversation. A few walked through the door, some materializing out of thin air, all with the same jet-blue hair falling like a waterfall.

Unlike the two, they looked different; some had horns, a few had fish scales and tails.

Cousins of Maria and her sister Yemoja.

The two direct descendants of the Yoreh, the progenitor of water.

"How is he doing that...?" one of the goddesses present asked curiously, the lot turning to Maria.

She was his guardian, the goddess assigned to watch over him and teach him the ways of water.

"...I... I didn’t know it would turn out like this... I thought he could get the hang of it. It’s water, you know... just flip your wrist and it listens..." she began to rattle, trying to find excuses for herself.

She had supposedly guided Alaric for three days, yet he still couldn’t manipulate the element.

She, born a goddess, could always control water, and thus, like a genius teaching a noob, she sucked at it, Alaric unable to learn anything from her, especially with his constitution.

"You do know he is trying to move the water like the fire mages move fire, right?" Yemoja said, with raised eyebrows, surprised her sister could be this stupid.

Just from a glance, she could tell what the problem was.

Alaric, one born of fire, having the constitution of fire, had the feel for flames.

Though he had never used flames, his body instinctively knew how to control it.

And thus, when given something heavier, something denser like water, he failed to control it.

The water element unable to comprehend his intent as he tried to manipulate it as one would fire.

"Ahhhh..." As this realization dawned on the goddess present, Maria buried her face in embarrassment.

She hadn’t noticed this when they had spent all that time together.

"How will he fulfill his duties now?" Maria couldn’t help but cry. She had failed as a guide.

"Don’t worry, it seems he has it figured out..." Yemoja tugged at Maria’s shoulders.

The latter raised her head, tears and snot dripping from her face. The others shook their heads in resignation.

"What a crybaby," they sighed simultaneously.

"...Look" Yemoja pointed to the lake, and true to her words, Alaric stood on the lakebed, now as dry as a drought. The sky filled with scorching mist of water; Raika rushed to his side.

He waved his hand, the scorching mist obeying him effortlessly. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"I get it..." he muttered.
