Chapter 230: Chapter 196: A Spoiled Girl
Huang Yuan saw Lin Chu too and singled him out.
Lin Chu glanced at him, thought for a moment, and sat down.
After he sat down.
They played a couple of rounds.
Had a couple of drinks.
The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.
Lin Chu passed around a round of cigarettes, then asked casually, as if it were an afterthought, "Hey, something just occurred to me, Brother Yuan. I wanted to ask you about someone. Have you ever heard of a guy named Lan Yuzheng?"
When Huang Yuan heard this, his eyes flickered. He even put down the glass he was holding.
"Lan who?"
He asked again, pretending he hadn’t understood, his drunken eyes looking even more drowsy.
Seeing his reaction, Lin Chu just smiled and waved a hand. "Never mind. Let’s keep going. Drink up."
Huang Yuan didn’t press the issue. He went back to shaking the dice, laughing loudly. He was a heavy gambler and resumed making bold calls before taking a large swig of his drink.
Lin Chu didn’t mention it again.
He treated it as just a get-together with friends for drinks and fun.
’People are really interesting.’
’The ones you think definitely can’t help might actually be the ones who can. That’s how it is.’
’And the ones you think might help you might not have the slightest intention of doing so. That’s just how it is.’
’Interesting.’
’People are so very interesting.’
’Still, the more friends you have, the higher the odds of finding someone who can help. You never know which cloud holds the rain, after all.’
...
A lot of people drank too much at tonight’s party.
A good time was had by all.
Huang Yuan was completely wasted and went straight to a guest room to sleep it off. He had already thrown up once, and Lin Chu, worried he might vomit again in his sleep and choke, specifically instructed a male staff member to keep an eye on him.
Hu Ping’an kept boasting about his high levels of alcohol-degrading enzymes, and his tolerance for alcohol was truly impressive. It was hard to say how many rounds he’d gone, but by the end of it all, he was still perfectly clear-headed.
That in itself was a god-tier skill.
Lin Chu couldn’t help but feel a flicker of admiration.
Before everyone left, Lin Chu told Hu Ping’an about the "crowdfunded parting gift."
He froze, stunned. A few seconds later, his eyes reddened, and he surreptitiously wiped them. Seeing the concerned gazes all around him and the smiles on everyone’s faces, he took a deep breath and let out a great shout—"AHH!" His lips trembled, but no words came out.
But with that one roar, he seemed to have expelled all the pent-up frustration from his heart.
After a few more drinks, Hu Ping’an’s emotions settled, and he remarked with a sigh, "You know, I think today might just be the happiest day of my life. I wasn’t even this happy when I got married."
Lin Chu just smiled and patted his shoulder. "It’s a wild world out there. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters."
...
By eleven o’clock at night, almost everyone had left.
They had all gone their separate ways home and were settled for the night.
Lin Chu stood at the entrance to the hall, watching the staff clean up. A virtual panel materialized before his eyes.
Total spending for the evening: 7.41 million.
The bulk of the cost was alcohol. After all, even at wholesale prices, each of the three types of liquor cost upwards of six figures per bottle.
Rebate: 14.82 million.
’There’s strength in numbers, after all...’
’I should host more "gatherings" like this in the future.’
DING.
Just then, his phone buzzed with a new message.
Lin Chu glanced at it. It was from an unknown number.
"President Lin, hello. This is Lan Yuzheng. Congratulations, by the way. That was quite the spectacle today. The LC Club is the talk of the entire Peng City golf scene. Of course, everyone’s cursing you for it. They’re saying you’re raising the bar to an insane level, making it impossible for anyone else to do business."
Lin Chu glanced at the message and casually replied, "Come see me tomorrow. I’ll let you know the exact time then."
Lan Yuzheng’s reply was almost instantaneous: "Sounds good, hahahaha."
