Chapter 1149: Chapter 1148: On the Verge of Eruption
The governor of Bordeaux Planet brought his lover to the inn where Jiang Cheng and the others were staying, intending to buy the Flaming Firebird.
Jiang Cheng and Nature took the wolf pup out for a stroll early in the morning, and of course, they wouldn’t have left the Flaming Firebird behind.
Therefore, the person receiving the governor and his group was Ba Lv, who had just woken up.
Although Lord Governor was considered a "distinguished guest" by the inn’s manager, to Ba Lv, this was simply non-existent.
Especially when she learned the purpose of their visit was to buy the Flaming Firebird, she immediately refused them.
This group of wealthy people always thinks they can suppress others with money. It’s truly exasperating.
Lord Governor looked at the slightly arrogant, slightly defiant extraterrestrial beauty in front of him and was momentarily stunned. He did not expect, with his status, to be refused so cleanly and decisively, without a shred of wiggle room.
His lover, unwilling to accept defeat, felt challenged by the beauty before her, especially as she noticed her man being captivated. She naturally saw Ba Lv as an enemy.
To combat this arrogant wild girl, the governor’s lover decided to leverage her advantages, her immense material wealth, to make this wild girl realize that in front of rich people, such arrogance is misguided, and rich people truly can do as they please. Moreover, it’s not just about money.
They have power too!
"Tell me, how much for that bird? I’ll repeat again, name your price." The governor’s lover spoke again, her eyes filled with contempt.
"What are you playing at? Isn’t it just that you see the bird as uniquely valuable and want to demand a sky-high price?"
Ba Lv was frustrated.
Their brains must be kicked by a mule. She already explicitly refused them—no sale!
Can they not understand those two simple words? Are their brains there just for show?
Originally, this was a bright and sunny morning with fresh air. She was in a good mood, and if it weren’t for these people inexplicably bothering her, she might be teasing the wolf pup with her mentor and then enjoying a nice breakfast.
But all her plans were disrupted by these so-called dignified guests.
Ba Lv stood up and approached the governor’s lover.
Her face bore slight anger, which made the governor’s guard uneasy. Whether it was Lord Governor—though he is skilled—or his lover standing beside him, neither could suffer any harm, be it from a bright young woman.
A guard blocked Ba Lv’s path, his face wary, asking her, "Stop, what do you intend to do?"
Ba Lv halted her steps, looked at the guard without an expression, and said calmly, "I just want to tell her face to face that the bird is not for sale!" She paused for a moment, "I’ve said this twice now, and I don’t want to say it a third time. Now, you can convey my words to your master!" Ba Lv addressed the guard.
The governor’s lover felt deeply humiliated by the repeated refusal.
This lover was the child of a wealthy merchant from the governor’s planet, pampered since childhood, and with age, her temper had worsened. When she got involved with Lord Governor, even her parents didn’t dare oppose her requests.
Having been repeatedly embarrassed by this wild girl, she felt she was on the verge of madness.
"Wild girl! Just sell me the bird, and you can get a hefty sum of money. This money is enough for you to find a boy toy and live comfortably for the rest of your life. Do you not need to reconsider?" The governor’s lover spoke with sarcasm.
Ba Lv craned her head past the guard blocking her, addressing Lord Governor. "Governor, I suggest you take this woman beside you to a hospital for a checkup. Not only is her hearing impaired, but even here," she pointed at the lover’s head, "this has issues too."
Ba Lv turned away, ignoring any reaction from the governor and his group.
"Humans, what are you pretending for? Just look at what kind of things you are! I’m willing to buy your things because I find you worthy!" The governor’s lover shouted at Ba Lv’s retreating shadow angrily.
"Forget it, dear, since they won’t sell it to us, let’s not force it. I’ll buy you something else." Lord Governor quickly tried to resolve the situation, comforting his lover.
This wasn’t because he was sympathetic to Ba Lv, but he feared that if this matter got out, it would harm his reputation.
He knew how terrible those reporters’ tongues could be.
They might say "Lord Governor XX forces a young girl," deliberately being vague to pique readers’ curiosity.
Or "Using Lord Governor’s abuse of power, coercive buying and selling reveals the impotence of the law," turning a trivial matter into a major scandal.
Those reporters excel at using such sensational headlines to attract readers.
Lord Governor certainly didn’t wish to become a talking point for reporters or a subject in articles, to be discussed over meals and ridiculed by the common folk.
"Let’s go, dear." He urged his lover to leave.
Yet he hadn’t expected his lover to get mad at him too. Truly caught in the crossfire.
"Go? Go where? You’re a governor, and you can’t handle a wild girl. You just tell me to leave. Can’t you negotiate with her to sell me the bird?"
Lord Governor released a reluctant sigh; what was happening today, even two women were rebuking him in front of his subordinates. It was utterly embarrassing.
"Hey!" He called to Ba Lvluo, his tone tinged with annoyance due to his bad mood, "What’s so special about your bird? Just sell it to her. I’ve told you to name your price."
Ba Lvluo stopped and turned around, quietly watching them.
Lord Governor assumed his words had an effect.
"That’s right, what’s there that can’t be negotiated? Maybe a few days later, she’ll be bored of the bird and return it to you."
Lord Governor added, "If you truly don’t want money, you can propose other conditions, and I will meet them too."
Ba Lv was about to retort when the inn’s door was suddenly pushed open roughly, and someone shouted, "What’s going on?"
The governor’s lover, unwilling to accept failure, was a spoiled princess who always got what she wanted.
It was the same for the bird; she wouldn’t give up easily.
Faced with the wild girl constantly rejecting her, she was incredibly infuriated.
Today, she would not rest until she got the bird sold to her!
Ba Lv was pushed to the brink of anger.
