Chapter 1146: Chapter 1145: Methods

The owner of the pet shop, Poe, was left red-faced and pale from the exchange.

According to the level of civilization on Bordeaux Planet, the title of ’Governor’ shouldn’t exist.

However, the father of this Governor was a Governor of a small planet during his life, and

during his several decades, he indeed did quite a lot for Bordeaux Planet, such as handling a pandemic crisis, providing earthquake relief, and dealing with a bandit invasion of a tour group.

In all these matters, the Governor’s father played a critical role, so the Bordeaux mansion valued him greatly. Upon his death, his only wish was for his son to inherit the role of Governor of that small planet. After much consideration, Bordeaux Planet’s mansion agreed to it.

However, as it was a democratic mansion, they also declared that this would be the last Governor.

A person like the Governor is not one the pet shop owner would usually encounter; he normally deals with the staff of the Bordeaux mansion, whose work in serving the common people is quite commendable.

Thus, at his advanced age, to be reprimanded by someone who flaunts the master’s power before him was truly infuriating.

Lord Governor was somewhat civilized; since the pet shop owner had already asked him, he should respond.

He waved his hand and gestured for that dog-like guy to step aside, then said to the owner: "I am looking for the owner of the bird to negotiate about buying it."

"Sir, from my observations of the bird’s owner and her degree of affection for it, I believe she won’t sell her pet." The pet shop owner, with decades of experience, can almost instantly tell whether a relationship between an owner and a pet is genuine or insincere, whether the owner’s feelings are impulsive or genuinely heartfelt.

The pet shop had just opened when the first customer arrived, and the customer’s identity surprised the owner.

This customer’s status was rather high; he was a hereditary Governor of a planet.

The Governor and his lover arose early, hoping to seize the opportunity to buy the Flaming Firebird from his shop.

When the pet shop owner learned of this, he told Lord Governor that the owner of the Flaming Firebird would not sell her pet.

This was his decades of expertise talking.

Lord Governor laughed heartily, paying no attention to the old man’s words.

It’s understandable since, for Lord Governor, he’s never encountered anything that can’t be bought; anything not for sale is simply because the price isn’t high enough.

Even the beautiful woman beside him was attracted only to his wealth; everyone knows it well but says nothing. He lusts for her beauty; she covets his money and status; it’s a mutually understood arrangement.

No wonder this honorable Lord Governor didn’t take the pet shop owner’s words seriously.

On Bordeaux Planet, Lord Governor isn’t the wealthiest; he’s only ranked seventh among the planet’s rich.

Yet, while others have more wealth, none hold greater power than he. Although not serving in the mansion, he acts like a tyrant on a distant planet.

His troops and privileges surpass what other wealthy people can wield.

So, hearing the owner say the bird’s owner wouldn’t sell, he couldn’t help but laugh. In his view, anything can be bought, provided enough is offered.

Lord Governor and his entourage left abruptly. The pet shop owner shook his head, knowing the Governor was bound to hit a dead end and meet resistance from the beautiful girl from the Extraterrestrial Planet.

As the pet shop owner just sat down to calm his nerves, more guests arrived.

A few sinister-looking men sauntered in, and a man with a gloomy expression said, "Where’s that bird? I’m buying it."

With no choice, the owner explained that the bird belonged to his customer and was only there for display.

The man didn’t leave. Instead, like Lord Governor, he wanted to know the bird owner’s address.

The pet shop owner began to hesitate.

These men clearly weren’t ordinary. If he revealed the address of the girl from the Extraterrestrial Planet, they’d certainly go and trouble her.

The man with the gloomy expression knew what the owner was pondering. He approached and whispered, "Old man, let me remind you, if you don’t honestly give me that address, you know there’ll be consequences."

He coldly laughed and continued, "Do you know who we are? I know, but I’m not afraid of you. If you harass me, I’ll report you!" the pet shop owner responded defiantly.

"Hahaha," the man forced out a few laughs, "What if every morning you find your lock broken or your front blocked by garbage? Think the authorities will intervene?"

"Hey, don’t just stand there. Put on a show, and let this old guy see." He ordered his underlings.

The subordinates began casually teasing the shop animals, causing them to screech in terror, while two burly men stood guard at the entrance, intimidating potential customers.

Watching, the pet shop owner fumed but knew, even if he reported them, enforcement would only dismiss them without penalizing, as they hadn’t committed any crimes.

If such harassment happened daily, he could forget doing business.

"So, old man, you won’t spill it, we’ll come here daily for fun." The man sneered, "You needn’t worry, Elder is a law-abiding place; even if you tell us, we won’t act rashly, we only want to buy the bird."

Faced with pressure, the pet shop owner had to relent, silently praying the beautiful girl would understand as he divulged her address.

When the man learned the address, realizing the bird owner was an Extraterrestrial Planet girl, his eyes lit up.

A girl, from an Extraterrestrial Planet no less; though the mansion’s laws were strict so he wouldn’t use excessive force--he wouldn’t go to jail over a bird—but he could employ underhanded means to coerce her.

The sinister man left, but shortly afterward, new customers arrived, leaving the pet shop owner with another headache.
