Chapter 181: Her Head Maid
No One’s Pov
Lily looked down at the cheerful little girl who was now skipping happily down the hallway, heading straight towards the grand dining area.
It had finally been a full day since Lily had arrived at this massive mansion, and she had spent every single minute trying her best to understand this strange new place. One thing was completely certain: this did not seem to be a normal family from any normal angle. They were surrounded by heavy security and cold-faced maids.
Suddenly, the large double doors of the dining hall came into view. The moment the guards pushed them open, Viella’s bright happy smile instantly fell, completely vanishing from her cute face. Sitting around the massive table was her entire family.
"I really thought they wouldn’t be home today," Viella muttered in a tiny disappointed whisper to herself as she reluctantly stepped inside the room.
Lily followed closely behind her, keeping her footsteps entirely silent as she carefully observed everything and everyone in the room.
The moment she walked through the doors, she could immediately feel a lot of sharp gazes locking onto her small body. When Lily calmly looked up, she met several pairs of freezing, cold eyes staring right back at her.
Sitting right at the head of the table was an intimidating man. Assuming from his expensive formal attire and the energy he radiated, Lily knew this must be Mr. Viella. Instead of looking scared like the other servants, Lily just boredly stared right back at him for a brief second.
Then, showing just a tiny bit of polite manners, she gave him a single bow and continued following her little lady to the table.
Sitting right besides him was a highly elegant woman who was probably Mrs. Viella. She was really beautiful, with delicate features and a regal posture. Looking at her, Lily could easily guess where her young lady got her good looks, Viella looked exactly like her mother.
Mrs. Viella didn’t even look up from her plate as she gracefully cut her food. She gave a disapproving glance at Viella. "Calestine, I heard from the head tutor that you didn’t attend your important etiquette class yesterday afternoon. Instead, you decided to run out to play and ended up bringing home a filthy slave."
Hearing the harsh word "slave" used to describe her, Lily stayed completely silent, her expression remaining totally blank and unbothered. She didn’t care what these people called her.
Viella swallowed hard, but she bravely lifted her chin and looked directly at her mother.
"Yes, you are completely correct, Mom. I indeed went out yesterday, and I bought a head maid for myself since I desperately needed one."
Lily immediately noticed that Viella stubbornly refused to use the word "slave." Even though she was young and scared of her family, the little girl was already trying her best to protect Lily’s dignity in front of them, firmly
establishing her as a proper maid instead of a piece of property.
"Here," Viella said firmly, pointing a small finger directly at Lily. "She is my official head maid from now on, and she will be in charge of my everything. No one else is allowed to order her around. Understand, Lily?"
Lily gave a calm nod to her lady, showing her complete agreement.
Her mother stared at the little girl with deep disappointment, clearly unhappy with how stubborn her youngest child was being, yet she ultimately chose not to say anything more about it. Across the table, Marcella simply rolled her eyes in annoyance and kept eating her breakfast, while Lucian... he just stared at both of them with an amused smirk, as if he were watching a highly entertaining comedy show.
After a moment, he let out a short chuckle and went right back to eating his food.
The breakfast continued in a tense silence. Soon enough, one by one, everyone finished their meals and left the grand dining room.
Eventually, only Viella, Lily, and Lucian were left behind in the massive hall.
Just as Viella and Lily stood up from their chairs and were finally gonna leave the room, Lucian’s arrogant voice suddenly stopped them in their tracks.
"Hey, little sister. Didn’t you bother to teach your new little dog how to show some proper respect to the young master of this family?" Lucian said, leaning back in his chair with a malicious smirk as he stared directly at Lily. He was clearly waiting for Lily to bow down or for Viella to snap back in anger.
However, completely ignoring his annoying words, Viella and Lily just turned around and walked right out of the dining room together, leaving him talking to an empty wall.
The moment the doors shut behind them, Lucian’s proud smirk instantly fell, and his entire face turned bright red with pure anger.
He slammed his fork down onto the table. How dare they completely ignore him like that?! No one in this house had ever treated him like he was invisible. He felt deeply insulted, and he was absolutely gonna take revenge on that servant girl for sure. With a furious growl, he stomped his feet hard against the floor and stormed out of the room.
Soon after the messy breakfast, Viella went back to her bedroom and got fully ready for her private school, putting on a clean uniform.
Once she was dressed, she turned around and stared at Lily for a long bit, thinking deeply about something. Suddenly, a brilliant new idea came into her mind. She grabbed Lily’s hand tightly and dragged her all the way up to her father’s private study room.
Viella stood in front of the giant wooden door, took a deep breath, and gave a nervous knock.
"Come in," her father’s cold voice came from inside the room, sending a shiver down the hallway.
Viella pushed the door open, stepped inside, and looked up at the terrifying man sitting behind the desk. "Daddy... um, I really want Lily to join me in my school, please! If you let her come with me, I swear I will work extra hard and finally learn how to be mean just like the rest of the family!" she said with a determined look on her face.
Mr. Viella slowly stopped typing. He didn’t look at his daughter at all; instead, his cold eyes looked directly at Lily, who was standing perfectly still in the background. He remembered the wiped basement footage and the mysterious background of this girl.
"Okay," he said simply, turning back to his work.
"Plea- " Viella suddenly stopped talking, her mouth hanging wide open. "Huh?"
She blinked her eyes in complete shock. She had fully thought it would be incredibly harder to make him agree to her request. She had expected a long lecture, an angry shout, or a flat refusal, so she truly hadn’t expected him to agree so easily without asking a single question.
She had no idea that her father was simply letting Lily go to school so he could monitor her abilities even closely.Viella happily thanked her father with a bright smile, her previous fear completely vanishing, and she was just about to quickly turn around and leave the study room with Lily.
"Wait," his cold, deep voice suddenly came, cutting through the silence of the room.
The two girls stopped dead in their tracks. Mr. Viella slowly lifted his head, his terrifying gaze locking onto them. "You..." he pointed a long finger directly at Lily. "You stay right here. And you, Calestine, leave the room immediately. I have something important to discuss with her alone."
Viella hesitated for a long moment, looking back at Lily with worried eyes, terrified that her father might hurt her new friend. But seeing Lily’s completely calm expression, the little girl reluctantly and hesitantly left the room, shutting the wooden door softly behind her.
Once they were completely alone, Mr. Viella leaned back in his chair, staring at the small girl standing before him. "I heard something quite interesting about you today," he said, testing her reaction.
"It will be my absolute pleasure if you really do, sir," Lily replied smoothly, her voice completely empty of any human emotions or fear.
"Were you the one who truly killed all those captive men in the basement yesterday?" he asked sharply, his eyes narrowing to catch even the slightest hint of a lie.
"I am deeply afraid I will disappoint you, sir, but I am not the one who did it," Lily answered without blinking an eye, keeping her face as still as a stone statue.
"But from the maids and the guards, I clearly heard it was you who pulled the trigger," Mr. Viella countered.
"Perhaps their eyes saw it completely wrong in the dark, sir," Lily replied calmly, refusing to break under the immense pressure.
"Hm..." Mr. Viella hummed quietly, staring at her for a few more seconds. He could tell she was lying, but he was highly impressed by her total lack of fear. "Leave."
With that short command, Lily gave a polite bow and calmly left the study room.
The scene quickly shifted, and soon enough, the two girls finally reached the grand private school. Since Mr. Viella had officially allowed it,
Lily was right here attending the academy as a proper student alongside her little lady, wearing the same beautiful uniform just to accompany and protect Viella.
The exact moment they walked through the front doors and reached the classroom, all the other students immediately stopped what they were doing and looked directly at her. Even though Lily was technically several years older than everyone else in the grade, her severe malnutrition made her look just as small and short as them, so no one asked any awkward questions about her age.
Instead, everyone in the room was completely mesmerized and captivated by her striking, cold beauty. They whispered among themselves, wondering which powerful family this mysterious new girl belonged to.
Yet, despite all the attention and staring, Lily didn’t give a single glance to anyone else in the room. She completely ignored the crowd and only looked at her little lady, who was excitedly yapping and talking the entire time beside her.
Just as Lucian and his wealthy gang of friends were walking past her classroom during the morning break, he suddenly heard some loud gossip from the boys around him.
"Hey, Lucian! I heard your younger sister brought an absolute beauty to school with her today. She’s in the lower classroom right now. Do you know who she is?" one of his friends asked curiously.
Lucian didn’t know what they were talking about at first, feeling completely uninterested, until his gaze casually fell through the classroom window and landed directly on Lily sitting right besides Viella.
So, she was actually here too. Suddenly, the humiliating memory of how the two of them had completely ignored him at the breakfast table flashed through his mind, and a dark smirk slowly played on his lips.
Oh, how he was absolutely gonna have so much fun making their school life a living hell!
