Chapter 6: First Move

Eurenia was reluctant to serve an unknown deity, Roy understood her feelings perfectly.

Unlike his Earth where the tales of gods and demons were seen as myths, gods in this world are real.

There are a total of one thousand gods existing in this realm.

Each of them rule their own domains. While there are good gods who exist to take care of their followers, there are also evil gods whose purpose is destruction.

Eurenia didn’t want to trust a god she barely knew so she was hesitant to pray to the mysterious proclaimed ancient god.

The God of Beasts, Varanus.

She neither refused nor accepted the old man’s request. She simply allowed him to spend the night in their tents while her men kept watch.

The next morning came in a haste.

Alpha Eurenia of the crimson wolf-man pack had gathered her commanders in her private tent.

"It’s just as the old man said," the first commander reported. Commander Agro had his left eye covered by a patch, a soldier scarred in battle against the grey-skinned Ogres.

The other commanders nodded, "Our scout counted a total of seventy grey-skinned ogres marching towards us," The commander continued.

"It seems they’re following the trail we unknowingly left behind," The second commander sighed deeply.

A loyalist of the former Alpha and one of Eurenia’s most trusted confidants, Commander Hedro, little brother of Commander Agro was once known as the Ogre Slayer.

"What should we do?" Eurenia asked the commanders, "Should we flee while trying to erase our trails or should we fight?"

"...." Silence reigned.

The third Commander, Commander Vian raised his hand, "Yes?" Eurenia turned her gaze towards him.

Commander Vian cleared his throat, "We are the crimson furred wolf-men, I believe we should not flee this time."

"Why is that?" Eurenia asked.

"Let us pray to the God of Beasts, Varanus," Commander Vian advised. Eurenia’s eyebrows furrowed, "Why do you say so?" She asked.

Commander Vian exhaled a deep sigh, "Why?" He asked, "Look at us, we are barely even thirty in numbers."

"Few days ago.... We were more than five hundred, a united clan of crimson wolf men, now we are scattered."

"While we wander the east of the Hudeii Desert, our brothers and sisters wander the west, the north and the south."

"Searching for a place to escape from the tyranny of the grey-skinned ogres and unlucky for them, they do not have Alpha Eurenia on their side," Commander Vian clenched his fist. Unlike the brothers, he is the oldest active soldier in the pack.

Although they are wanderers after facing such brutal ambush. They once belonged to the greatest pack amongst the wolf-men species.

The Great Luna Pack and Eurenia is their current Alpha.

Eurenia’s gaze darkened, "Commander Vian is right." She hesitated, "But I still do not trust the help of an unknown god."

"But why?" Commander Vian asked, "Are we really in the right position to refuse?"

"Commander Vian," Eurenia called out, "Have you forgotten about the Black Night?" She growled.

"But...." Commander Vian hesitated.

Who doesn’t know about the Black Night? The day when a tribe of black rabbit men were wiped out in a single night.

The result of that disaster was praying to an evil god.

The Lord of Depravity.

No one knows the true name of that very deity. All that’s known about him is he’s the very source of corruption.

"Listen to me my dear commanders," Alpha Eurenia folds her arms, "For now we need to observe that old man and prepare."

"I won’t keep running anymore. We’ll stand our ground and fight those damned grey-skinned Ogres."

"And we’ll kill them without the help of a god!" She declared.

"Hmph." A soft scowl was heard, but it was too low for even these beastmen with superhuman hearing to hear.

Roy who had transformed himself into a bug was quietly listening to the meeting. He returned back to his tents, taking the form of the old man he was using.

Inside the tent, old man Anazora laid back on a rock, his eyes closed, "Lord of Depravity huh?" Roy’s lips curled faintly.

"A true god with authority over corruption truly will be a problem. Too much for anyone to handle." He slowly opened his eyes. "But that’s not for me to worry."

The old man slowly rose from the ground, "I’ve chosen this pack as my foundation but they still are reluctant to worship me."

"Perhaps i should make them see some miracles." A lopsided grin appeared on his lips.

The movements of the grey-skinned Ogres were faster than anticipated. They were drawing closer to the wolf-men tents, armed with thick wooden clubs and battle axes.

"We’re drawing closer to those bugs. Be ready to strike," The leader of the grey-skinned ogres instructed.

Unlike the others, this grey-skinned ogre had black eyes, 2.1 Meters tall with a skin as hard as a diamond.

"Yes boss!" The grey-skinned ogres chuckled.

Most of them were clothed in clothings made from the skin of wolf-men, even their skulls were used as masks for the ogres.

Hours went by and they were only a hundred meters away from the tents. To their surprise, the wolf-men were battle ready, armed with spears and cutlasses sharp enough to tear through an ogre’s hardened skin.

"Hahahahahaha.... They didn’t run?" An ogre laughed, "Although they’re brave, they truly are foolish I must say."

"Yea yea," another ogre spoke, "At least we won’t need to keep chasing them. We just need to bash their skulls and drink their blood right?"

"Heheheheheheheehehe."

"This is going to be a feast!!"

The grey-skinned ogres were all aroused, drunken with the thoughts of ruthless murders of wolf-men.

But their captain knew something was wrong.

He had something powerful in his possession so he knew the scent of another similar to his, "Stop!" The ogre captain raised his hand.

"What is it, boss?" An ogre grunted.

"Yes. Why are you stopping us from crushing these worms?"

"Won’t they just run away?"

"Let’s hunt them down when we’re closer. Let’s rip them apart!!"

The grey-skinned ogres were too intoxicating in their bloodlusts but they dared not go against their captain’s command.

"Wait," The ogre captain frowned, "Something’s wrong here. I can sense something similar to the Troll’s divine blessing," The ogre captain explained.

"Something similar? That’s a lie!"

"Yes it must be. If they had something like that, shouldn’t they have used it when we attacked their home?" freewēbnoveℓ.com

The ogre captain exhaled a deep sigh, "Hold for now. Let’s wait, if the wolf-men makes no move, we’ll strike them," The ogre captain declared.

"So that’s it huh?" Roy chuckled. He was currently in the form of a lizard; he made a risk coming here.

A risk of being detected by a true god.

But that risk paid off. He learnt the truth about the source of this mysterious divinity the ogres carried.

It wasn’t theirs, but the god whom the Trolls serve.

He returned back to the tent before returning back to the form of the old man Anazora. He sat on the ground with his legs crossed.

"Now that i know the truth," His eyes flickered for a second, "It’s time to make my first move."
