Chapter 175: City Chiss and Outcasts

The outcasts exchanged glances with one another, their improvised weapons still raised as they were wary of these strangers.

A few of them spoke amongst themselves which allowed Cortana to record it and start the analysis of their language.

The outcast who appeared to be their leader stepped forward. He was older than the others and his posture was similar to one who had survived in conditions that had killed everyone around him. He spoke directly at Daimon, and the words were sharp and interrogative.

Daimon subtly used the Force to understand what was being said or asked. That leader was asking who and what Daimon was.

Daimon answered, using the Force to communicate his words in their language. Their reaction was exactly how Daimon had expected. They slowly stepped back and dropped their weapons slightly.

The city Chiss woman stared at Daimon with an alarming expression since not only were these aliens in front of her, but they also spoke her language.

Lord Maxim leaned slightly toward asking "What did you say?"

"Something along the lines of; we are not your enemy and we did not come from this world." Daimon replied quietly. "I may have also accidentally implied that we fell from the sky, which is technically accurate."

The outcast leader spoke again with the Force translating. "You do not smell of the ice. You do not smell of the cities. Where do you come from?"

Daimon pointed upwards in response.

The leader looked at the sky. Then back at Daimon.

"You came on the Sky Vessel?" he asked. Cortana continued to record the exchange and study the Chiss language.

The city Chiss woman had not moved from her spot. Her weapon was still partially raised, but now her attention was focused on Daimon.

"Yes," Daimon said. "We came on the Sky Vessel." The leader turned back to his people. They started talking amongst themselves, with some gesturing toward the sky, others pointing at the Empyrean Guards whose size alone was drawing considerable attention. They weren’t as tall as Daimon, but they were still taller than the Chiss.

The outcast leader turned back to Daimon after a moment. "The sky belongs to no one," he said. "The old stories say that once, things came from the sky. They did not come in peace."

"Then the old stories are not about us," Daimon replied.

The leader studied him for a long moment. His red eyes were moving across the group behind Daimon, cataloguing each member.

"You stopped our fight," the leader said finally.

"I interrupted it," Daimon replied. "The fight was yours to finish or abandon. That is still your choice."

The leader looked at the city Chiss woman. Whatever history existed between the two groups was visible even across thirty meters of frozen ground. It was not a simple history. It was old, and it had layers to it that a single conversation would not reveal by itself.

The city Chiss woman who had been watching, spoke for the first time since Daimon arrived. "You speak our language." she said to Daimon. "If you’re from the sky, then how do you know our language."

"That’s a secret," Daimon said.

The fact that she didn’t get a clear answer just made her more suspicious. She didn’t know if these new strangers were working with the outcasts to fool them into lowering their guard or not. Though, judging by the outcasts reactions and the strangers armor, she considered the chance of that being true extremely low.

"Are you the commander of your people?" Daimon asked her.

"I am Syndic-Aspirant Nuruodo," she said. "I speak for the Eighth forward survey team." she paused looking around. "Or at least what remains of it."

Daimon didn’t know what the title entailed, but the fact that she was in charge of this many people meant it had to be a somewhat high rank among the Chiss.

"That’s unfortunate Syndic-Aspirant Nuruodo. But we both know, that’s how battles work. Some people live; some people die. In the end, it is the strong who survive."

Nuruodo looked at Daimon and wondered just who he was to. What he just said was similar to what the Chiss elite taught them.

"And we may not know each other now," said Daimon drawing his lightsaber. "But I hope that my decision to help you will establish a relationship between my people and yours."

As soon as the outcast heard that, they aimed their weapons at the city Chiss and Daimon’s group.

"THEY’RE HELPING THEM, KILL THEM!!" shouted the outcast leader as they opened fire on the city Chiss and Daimon.

Daimon hopped in between the city Chiss and the outcast to block the shots directed at them. The Balance Keepers hopped in front of Daimon and slowly advanced towards the outcasts who were freaking out as none of their shots were hitting their intended targets.

The Balance Keepers blocked every shot that the outcasts shot. Unlike laser weapons and sone energy-based weapons, kinetic weapons that the outcasts used couldn’t be deflected back to its shooter.

The outcast leader, seeing that his gun had no effect, threw it away and pulled out a crude sword and ran at one of the Balance Keepers. A few members of his group did the same.

The outcast leader didn’t know how lightsabers worked, nor did any of the Chiss for that matter. So, when he swung his sword at the Balance Keeper, he didn’t expect his own sword to be cut in half. It all happened so fast that he didn’t even see that the Balance Keeper’s lightsaber kept going and pierced his body.

The Balance Keeper didn’t cut him in half as that type of brutality would probably not be a good image to give the people their trying to establish good relations with.

Instead, he just shoved the tip of his lightsaber into the body of the outcast which started to burn his internal organs and killed him almost immediately.

The other Balance Keepers dealt with their attackers in a similar way.

With their leader killed almost immediately, the outcasts had actually started to retreat. Seeing that their attacks weren’t working, and their leader get killed instantly, they made turned around and started to run.

Daimon didn’t pursue them. Instead, he turned to face the city Chiss to see how they were doing. Syndic-Aspirant Nuruodo who was standing behind him, was shocked at what she just saw. These armored strangers had practically blocked every shot fired at them, killed the outcast’s leader, and made them run away.

When she saw Daimon turn towards her, she couldn’t help but ask. "What are those weapons?" she asked pointing at the lightsaber that was now resting on Daimon’s and the Balance Keepers hilt.

"These are what we call lightsabers. There more like laser swords that can cut through pretty much anything." Daimon explained. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Syndic-Aspirant Nuruodo couldn’t fathom how powerful such a weapon was. To be able to cut through anything was pretty great. But to also have a solid laser in the form of a sword that could be used as a sword was something that Nuruodo saw as highly advanced.

"I have a lot more questions, but we need to get back to our city." she responded. "As for establishing relations with my people. I will have to talk to my superiors and see what they say about it. I will tell them what happened here and how you helped us, but we have never met aliens before so I hope you understand any caution we may take."

Daimon understood her so he simply shook his head. "Very well." he said taking out a communicator. "If they make a decision, tell them that they can contact through this by pressing this button." he explained how the communicator worked to make it easier to communicate between the two sides.

Syndic-Aspirant Nuruodo took the communicator and started to issue orders to her people to get going.

Daimon also issued orders to pull back to the shuttle and start setting up a small base until they get contacted by the Chiss. He didn’t want to make it look like he was following Syndic-Aspirant Nuruodo and her group to make continue that friendly appearance that they had already established with the city Chiss.

From orbit, the Luminary had deployed three transports. One would be used to deploy a makeshift base, while the other two would carry additional soldiers to garrison it and supplies.
