Chapter 234: Should We Get Married?
He looked surprised at her words, as he hadn’t expected Seraphine to mention that, but since she did, then it was best that they got this whole thing out in the open and talked about it as openly as possible.
Seraphine saw Aurelian’s expression, knew what he was thinking, and decided to tell him her own thoughts on the matter.
"Our families had an agreement about our marriage before we were even born. But the reason why we have been betrothed to each other is because of the benefits both parties will receive upon the marriage being carried out, as your family has more resources, while my family has the higher prestige within the noble families."
Aurelian heard her words and nodded. "That makes sense. I assume you know that if we marry, then both of us will benefit a lot from the union?"
Seraphine smiled faintly. "Yes, I am well aware of the benefits of such a union, but do you really want to marry me for those benefits and nothing else? That would be very boring, don’t you think?"
Aurelian looked at her closely, then asked. "So, what do you suggest we do about this situation then?"
Seraphine was quiet for a bit, then answered his question with one of her own. "I think we should marry not just because of our families’ wishes but because both of us genuinely want to do so; how about it?"
He nodded at her suggestion, then smiled faintly. "I agree, but to do that, we will need to meet more often and understand each other before we can say that we want to genuinely want to marry each other."
He then continued, "And, you should know that the triplets from the Morozova family are also people I am currently seeing and plan to marry later on, which you should already know."
"Yes, I am aware of that and am perfectly fine with that arrangement as well," Seraphine said with a smile, as she didn’t mind it at all.
"In fact, if I were to get married first, then you can take your time marrying them," Seraphine added.
"Is that so?" Aurelian asked.
"Yes, that is so."
Aurelian was quiet for a bit before he asked, "You know the Morozova family triplets, right? What do you think of them?"
Seraphine looked thoughtful, then answered his question.
"Well, I think they are very cute and pretty, but also a little shy, so they don’t really get involved with anyone outside their family, which is why I think it’s nice that you are able to bring them out of their shell and make them open up more to others."
Aurelian listened to her words and nodded in agreement.
"I think so too, so I am glad that we agree on that," he said with a faint smile. freēwebnovel.com
Seraphine returned his smile, then asked, "So, what are your plans for the future? Are you still planning on attending the academy, or do you already have other plans in mind?"
Aurelian thought about her question for a moment, then answered her, "At the moment, I am planning on attending the academy to gain experience, but I might take the time to visit the front lines and learn more about the military operations there, which might help me understand some of the things that I had heard before and not really understood properly."
Seraphine nodded in understanding at his words, as she knew what it was like to be curious about things you have not experienced or learned about yet, so she could see where Aurelian was coming from with his decision to go out and learn about the real world.
"That’s good. I’m sure you’ll find it very interesting," she said with a smile.
Then she continued, "Well, if you ever need any help or advice on anything, just let me know, and I’ll try to help you out as best as I can," she said with a smile.
Aurelian nodded in appreciation at her offer and said, "Thank you. I’ll definitely keep that in mind."
Seraphine nodded at his response and said, "It’s my pleasure to help you out. After all, we are going to be family soon enough anyway, so we might as well help each other out when we can."
Hearing this, Aurelian looked at her for a moment before asking, "You know I thought you would ask me where I went and why I was off the radar for so long?"
Seraphine smiled at him, then said, "I did want to ask you about that, but I decided against it since it seemed like something very personal for you, and I didn’t want to pry into your personal life without your permission," she explained, which made Aurelian smile as he appreciated her thoughtfulness.
After hearing her words, he leaned in closer and kissed her cheek, then whispered in her ear, "Thank you for not asking, as I dont think I can give you an answer even if you had asked me as even I am not sure to what this might be," he said as he moved away from her slightly so he could see her expression, which had become slightly flushed due to his unexpected kiss.
"You’re welcome," she said as she looked up at him and smiled again, then continued, "Well, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about some other things," she said with a smile as she reached out and took his hand in hers before leading him along the path that led back to the Arcturus estate grounds.
The rest of the night passed by in a pleasant blur of conversation and companionship. Seraphine stayed with him for quite a while before she had to go back, as she still had to get up early and tend to her responsibilities, which don’t stop even for a day.
Aurelian returned home and found himself in his office, where he was looking through the various reports that had been sent to him by the Arcturus family administration, and after a few hours of reading, he found himself falling asleep at his desk.
However, just as he was about to fall asleep, he suddenly felt someone wrap their arms around him from behind and pull him into a warm embrace, which surprised him enough that he jolted awake and tried to stand up to see who had come to his office so late at night, but before he could stand, they tightened their grip on him and pulled him back into the chair.
"Relax," said a familiar voice from behind him, causing him to relax slightly as he recognized it as belonging to Mirei, the third of the triplet sisters from the Morozova family.
"Mirei, what are you doing here? It’s so late," Aurelian asked, slightly confused by her sudden appearance in his office, especially since she had never come to visit him at the Arcturus estate before.
"I couldn’t sleep," she said simply, as she held him tightly against her chest, enjoying the feeling of his warm body pressed against hers.
Aurelian sighed softly as he leaned back into her embrace, enjoying the feeling of her breasts pressing against his back.
"I see..." he murmured, closing his eyes as he allowed himself to relax completely, letting his mind drift off to other thoughts.
Mirei smiled to herself as she felt Aurelian relax in her arms, enjoying the fact that she had managed to break through his defenses and get him to let her guard down around her.
She knew how much Aurelian hated showing his vulnerable side to people, especially since it meant that they would have more power over him if they decided to use it against him, but she also knew how much Aurelian trusted her and the other girls, which was why he allowed them to see this side of him without much hesitation.
The room was quiet for several moments as the two of them just enjoyed each other’s company, before Mirei finally spoke again, breaking the silence that had settled between them.
"Are you happy?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she looked down at Aurelian’s face, watching him closely for any signs of discomfort or apprehension in his expression, but all she saw on his face was peace and contentment as he answered her question without hesitation.
"I am very happy."
Mirei smiled at his reply as she leaned down and pressed her lips against his forehead gently before pulling back slightly, allowing their eyes to meet as she whispered, "Then, I’m glad... Because that’s all that matters to me..."
Aurelian felt his cheeks flush slightly at her words as he averted his gaze from hers, feeling slightly embarrassed at her declaration of love for him, before he suddenly found himself being pulled up into a warm embrace, her arms wrapping around him tightly as she buried her face into the crook of his neck, inhaling his scent deeply as she sighed contentedly against his skin.
