Chapter 29: Magus Bloodline: Wild Magus!
Andrew casually grabbed a Manachip from his inventory and popped it into his mouth. Instead of absorbing it gradually through his palm like a sensible person, he bit down hard and chewed it like it was a cracker.
The crystalline chip cracked and shattered between his teeth that sent sparks of raw mana sizzling across his tongue.
Then he swallowed the fine powder. It went down like a shot of liquid lightning, burning a trail of pure energy from his throat to his stomach!
Of course he wouldn’t be this reckless if he didn’t have a plan.
He activated the [Devouring Intestine] Talent instantly.
The talent worked overtime, grabbing the raw, unrefined mana from the dissolved Manachip and converting it directly into usable magical energy. His limitless body absorbed mana rapidly by speed of 8 times, the mana flooding into his circuits like water rushing into a dry riverbed.
"Uh-oh," Andrew felt his stomach bloat. It swelled outward like a balloon being filled with air. The mana was too much, too fast. His body couldn’t process it all at once. It was like trying to funnel an ocean through a garden hose. The excess energy had nowhere to go, and it was building up inside him with dangerous, explosive pressure.
Just as Andrew was panicking and was about to use one investment point to level up one of his bloodlines, like a meat balloon filled with magical napalm he immediately let loose a long, thunderous burp and seven farts that sounded like a thunderstorm.
Pure mana shot out of his mouth in a dazzling beam of rainbow light while an identical beam of rainbow energy blasted out of his ass with equal force.
The dual streams of raw magical energy crackled as they shot in opposite directions, painting the cave walls in colors.
"Seems like I should have just eaten a bit of it," Andrew pursed his lips, his face slightly green from the mana overload. He watched with a mix of sadness and embarrassment as the massive amount of mana evaporated back into nature, dissipating into the cave air like mist. That was probably enough mana to power a small house for years, and he’d just farted it away.
But there was no time to dwell on his waste. At that split second, he saw another wave of Grey Rats surging toward him! They were an endless sea of gray fur and red eyes, their combined squeaking creating a deafening roar that drowned out all other sounds.
Just as Andrew was getting ready for round two, raising his blade and igniting it with purple flames, the river of Grey Rats suddenly paused 50 meters away from him. It was as if an invisible wall had been erected.
Andrew glanced around with his [Flash Light], sweeping the beam across the ceiling and walls, and saw that those that were climbing the ceiling had also paused, their beady red eyes fixed on him eerily.
Just when Andrew was about to activate another Hundred Purple Flame Strike and wash them all away in a tide of violet fire, the hundreds of rats suddenly started climbing on top of each other, stacking their bodies on top of one another like living building blocks.
The pile grew higher and higher, the rats compressing and interlocking their limbs until they formed a three-meter-tall humanoid rat abomination.
It was ugly and terrifying. A tower of writhing, squeaking flesh shaped vaguely like a person. It had a torso made of dozens of rats gripping each other with their claws, arms formed by rats linking their tails and bodies together, and a head that was just a mass of rat faces all facing forward, their red eyes blinking in unison and their mouths snapping hungrily. The stench emanating from it was indescribable.
"What the—"
Before Andrew could even finish his sentence, the Grey-Rat abomination’s arm moved. The rats forming the limb reshaped themselves, compressing and elongating until they formed a massive javelin made entirely of Grey-Rats.
The humanoid rat abomination drew its arm back and hurled the javelin at him with terrifying speed and force.
"Whoosh!"
The rat-javelin flew through the air like a living missile, as they rocketed toward his chest. The wind from its passage whipped Andrew’s hair back. It was incredibly fast.
Andrew was too stunned to dodge properly, but his battle instincts kicked in at the last millisecond. He snapped his fingers and a blue fireball conjured before him. With a mental command, the fireball shifted and morphed, changing shape until it transformed into a large, flaming spear of concentrated Chaos Dao Fire.
Andrew flicked his index finger. The flaming spear tore through the air like a missile, leaving a trail of blue fire in its wake as it flew toward the incoming rat-javelin. The two projectiles raced toward each other on a collision course.
The moment the flaming spear made contact with the rat-javelin, the rats composing the javelin suddenly changed formation. They shifted and rearranged their bodies, creating a perfect hole in their center. The flaming spear flew right through the hole without touching a single rat, before striking the cave wall behind them.
"BOOM!"
The flaming spear slammed into the stone wall, creating a massive crater. But the rat-javelin was completely unharmed!
"!!!?" Andrew was stunned.
’Is this the reason why it’s called Hell Mode?’
The rat-javelin came back together, reforming into its spear shape! It spun around like a drill, the rats rotating their bodies to generate additional torque, and slammed into Andrew with the force of a freight train.
In that split second, Andrew covered his blade in purple flames and slashed the Godslayer upward to block the spear attack!
"BANG!"
Andrew was sent flying backwards with insane force traveling through his body. His feet left the ground, and he rocketed through the air like a ragdoll!
He performed a backflip mid-air, riding through the force of the impact rather than fighting it. He landed on his feet, his boots skidding across the stone floor and dragging a meter backward before he stabilized. His arms trembled from the residual vibration, and his grip on the Godslayer felt numb!
"Their combat index has most likely surpassed 120," Andrew muttered, his face changing slightly. The individual rats were only Combat Index 23 to 40, but when they combined, their power multiplied exponentially! freeweɓnøvel.com
Andrew knew he’d have to fight seriously.
At the same time his flaming blade had collided against the spear made of rats, five rats were burnt to crisps.
Their charred bodies fell away from the formation, . But the other rats had learned. They spread out, avoiding the flames that, and pounced at Andrew without hesitation! They came from above, below, left, right—every angle! ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"Bam!" "Bam!" "Bam!"
Heavy footsteps echoed as the massive three-meter-tall rat moved in perfect synchronization,
"Squelch!" "Squelch!" "Squelch!"
Andrew’s blade flowed like a brush in the hand of a master calligrapher. Every strike slicing through the necks of the rats that pounced at him.
But at the same time, the shadow of the three-meter-tall rat formation appeared behind him., looming over him like a giant.
The rats forming the abomination’s arm rearranged themselves forming a massive, razor-sharp claw that slashed down at Andrew’s skull with devastating force!
Andrew’s eyes turned. ’I guess it’s time for me to use that then.’
"Magus Bloodline: First Form—Wild Magus!"
