Chapter 29: Assassination
Amon could be seen walking on the road in a daze with an object in his hand.
Far from what everyone expected. It wasn’t an extraction stone, not technically.
Rather, it was a rare, storage space treasure containing tens of extraction stones.
A weak smile appeared on his face as he recalled his conversation with the president.
’Could this be the reason why I coincidentally got the nexus fruit?’ amon had always had the feeling that there was something slightly suspicious about how he’d gotten the nexus fruit, but he couldnt place a finger on it, now he couldnt help but feel as though there was a mysterious pair of hands controlling everything.
’But why me? Is it due to just my unranked talent?’ amon had a suspicion in his heart.
He sighed and took his surroundings.
Everything was still as lively as before.
Every one was unaware of the impending danger and calamity that humanity faced.
In a way he couldnt help commending the president for ensuring that there was no panic within everyone’s hearts.
Amon exhaled slightly, and waved his hand, hailing a taxi to a stop.
He told the man his destination which was the hospital located within the city and the driver immediately sped off.
Over the years, whenever he had one worry or the other he usually visited and chatted with his sister.
Althoguh she was still in a state of coma, chatting with her brought a sense of calmness to his heart.
...
Time passed very slowly when amon finally arrived at the hospital.
He paid the taxi driver the money for the journey and got down.
With calm, even steps he went to his sister’s ward.
After taking an elevator, amon finally arrived at his sister’s room.
Unceremonniously, he opened the door and entered, then let out a sigh before closing the door.
"Hey sis," a wry smile appeared on amon’s face as he called out to her.
He received no reply.
"I know its just barely been a day since I came here and now I’m here again. Although just a day has passed, for me it feels like its been a really really long time."
"I went into the gaming world nexus, killed some monsters, realised my talent is far from normal..." amon continued rambling on and on while pacing around evenly.
When he felt his mouth go dry he finally said with another hollow laugh.
"Turns out I’m supposed to save the world."
A self-deprecating laugh excaped his lips.
"How am I supposed to save the world when I can’t even save you?"
Amon silently shook his head in regret and sat down beside his sister on the bed.
Her facial expression was still pale and lifeless. There was no sign of movements coming from her.
Pulling a strand of hair behind her back, her beauty was revealed for all to see.
Amon sighed once more, "if you were alive you’d probably say something like, ’saving the world’s not a big deal... you just need to take it one ste—"
Boom!
Amon’s voice was cut off abrubtly by the sound of something of an explosion.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Multiple explosion noises rang out simulteanously.
The building he was inside caved in slightly and before amon could realise what was happening, the ceiling colapsed.
"Shit!" amon cursed and acted quickly.
Without hesitation, he tossed his sister under the bed, however it was already too late to defend himself.
With a resounding bang, the blocks and debrie slammed into him.
Surprisingly, amon wasnt heavily injured.
He felt a slight dizziness along with a metalic taste in his mouth, however due to extracting the gaming attributes, amon was relatively unharmed.
"What’s going on?" amon muttered, an quickly check on his sister.
He let out a sigh of relief when he saw that she was unharmed from the attack just now.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Screams and alarms rang out wildly.
Along with the screams were sounds of gunshots echoeing outside.
Amon expression shifted and countless thoughts erupted in his mind.
’Are they... here for me?’
It wouldnt be surpriising if there was a traitor in humanity.
Humans were like that. They wre just that greedy.
Amon’s eyes flashed with a cold glint as he rushed to the door.
He had to check on on things. He couldnt let any harm come to his sister.
The door had a transparent film which he looked through. Nurses and doctors were rushing with panicked expressions on their faces, running wildly as though there was some form of crisis. There truly was.
Amon glanced around and noted that whoever was attacking was likely still downstairs.
With that, he opened the door without hesitation.
The moment he stepped out a beautiful nurse rushed up to him.
"What are you doing young man? Black masked men are killing indiscriminately! Come with me let’s head to the special unit. The defense there is terrifying enough to hold out against the bullets while the police arrives."
Amon furrowed his brows at her words.
Noticing his hesitation, the nurse couldnt be bothered to deal with him.
Without hesitation, she too rushed towards the special unit.
She had already tried to help amon. If he didnt want to come, she couldn’t risk her life for him.
Amon’s gaze followed the nurse’s figure. After some deliberation, he realised that soon, just he and his sister would be the only one left here without much defense.
With that in mind, he rushed back into the room and picked up his sister bridal style. Her soft body pressed against him and her temperature was cold.
If it wasnt for the fact that she was still breathing evenly, it was easy for one to assume that she was dead.
Surprisingly, his sister was as light as a feather. This was due to the fact that he could be considered a superhuman now.
Without hesitation, he sprinted, his steps light as he followed the nurses’ movements from before which he had tracked.
Before long, he arrived at a reinforced door, it was on the verge of being locked.
Behind him a young man with an injured leg, using a crotch struggled to push the chair of an old woman, struggling to reach the rapidly closing door.
At the side there was also a young man with a pale expression who was crawling on the ground. He had just been operated on and was still recovering from the surgery.
"Quick, close the door, we don’t know if they might arive anytime soon." fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"There’s no need to bother with them. Close the door quickly, they’re gonna die anyway!" voices drifted from within the room.
Amon’s eyes flashed coldly, as he quickly closed the distance.
Just as the door was about to close, a finger stretched into the door.
Bang!
A gunshot echoed from behind.
"What’s he trying to do? Is he trying to kill himself?"
"That door would..." the voices of the crowd trailed off when they noticed to their shock that amon was actually forcefully pulling the door open!
Amon glanced at the crowd fiercely then turned his attention back outside.
Three masked men were rushing rapidly.
The old lady, the crippled man and the young man who were crawling on the ground were already dead.
Amon’s eyes flashed with sadness and regret, however he couldnt do anything about it.
Without hesitation, he rolled the door to a close.
Bang!
A bullet sliced through the air, barely passing amon’s neck by mere milimeters before bursting apart a few bottles.
Amon quickly twisted the door and ensured it was locked.
His heart pounded slightly at how close the situation had been.
Just as the group sighed in relief the voice of a middle aged man boomed from a few microphones.
"Everyone, we promise not to harm anyone, just hand over the young man named amon, and his sister."
At first no one cared much about the words of the speaker, however the next words he spoke caused their hearts to skip a beat.
"The moment we arrived, we disconected the networks so don’t expect anyone to come and save you. The only way to survive is to hand over the young man standing near the dor along with his sister who is colapsed on the ground."
Everyone’s attention turned to the young man who had entered last.
The description matched him perfectly...
