Chapter 10: The Red Eyes
One step, two steps, Arthur gradually approached the spider web, and when only a few meters separated him from it, a glimmer of golden color appeared in his eyes, then his body suddenly shook.
Like a drowning person who had been pulled from the water he coughed hard, and despite his extreme shock and confusion, he ignored all the chaos in his head and retreated in panic backwards at his maximum speed. He did not stop until he had widened the distance between himself and the web to about two hundred meters.
"What was that?!" He breathed with difficulty and his body trembled frantically, all his boldness and courage had vanished, he felt intense fear that made him unable to look at the spider web again.
In this dire situation, he resorted to his bloodline, he activated it at its maximum strength, and only then did his calmness return to him, and he stopped trembling, without raising his head, he retreated backwards. ’This spider web? It must possess some kind of pulling force, it affected my mind and made me lose all sense of myself, fortunately my bloodline woke me up at the last moment, had it not been for that I would have become a pile of bones by now.’
One of the positives of his bloodline was that its effects appeared automatically in the face of danger without any need for direct intervention from him, and this helped him react quickly to various types of threats, as had happened with the leopard previously.
When he had retreated three steps and was about to turn around and flee, he suddenly froze in place, and even though his bloodline was suppressing his emotions and reactions, a shiver ran through every part of his body, his heart pounded hard like a drum, and slowly he raised his head, and looked at the web.
At that moment, he saw eight huge red eyes staring at him. Behind the silk threads and countless skeletons stood the owner of those eyes: a gigantic black spider. Its body fluctuated strangely as though it were nothing but condensed smoke.
Arthur’s pupils contracted, and for the first time his bloodline reacted strongly, as though acknowledging that the monster staring at him was a creature of an entirely different level.
[ ??????? ]
The Evaluation skill as well, displayed no information at all.
’Fuck, is this forest hell itself? Can’t a weakling like me live in peace?’ Arthur cursed.
In the same way the web had affected him previously, an unbelievable pulling force emanated from the red eyes making him lose the ability to control himself.
Entranced by them, he walked toward them like a moth heading toward flames, the only difference was that this time he retained a little of his consciousness, so he was aware that he was heading toward his demise.
Arthur was not just an ordinary target that could fall for the same trick twice, for his first experience had granted him a little immunity, and most importantly his bloodline was working at its maximum strength this time and this helped him restrain himself a little, and his human intelligence also helped him.
He gritted his fangs, and resisted the pulling force with all the strength he had. His body trembled frantically as though two opposing forces were battling within him, and in the end his steps began to slow down little by little.
"Damn." He howled in pain, and with great difficulty forced himself to stop in his place. The black spider was a little surprised, but it made no movement, and was content to watch him struggle for his life.
’What do I do?’ Arthur gripped the ground firmly, pushed his mind to its limits trying to find a solution to get out of this dire predicament.
’No, I do not want to die like this, I do not want to be eaten.’ He did not give up, and desperately continued to struggle, in the end and after a long ordeal, he managed to take a step backwards. freёwebnoѵel.com
At that moment the system screen appeared before him, carrying a glimmer of hope.
Ding!
[ You have acquired a rare skill: Iron Will ]
’Hah?!’ He gasped loudly, and even though he did not know exactly how he had acquired this skill, he did not think about it at all, he read its information quickly. The skill’s main effect was protection from mental attacks.
When he realized that, he activated it without any hesitation, and the moment its effects appeared, he felt the pulling force weaken and regained control of his body.
He took a deep breath and calmed himself, then slowly stole a quick glance at the red eyes, and found them still fixed in their place.
A heavy silence fell over the place, then suddenly, he turned around and darted away fleeing at his maximum speed leaving behind him a trail of flying dust.
It was well known that most types of spiders do not leave their nests, but Arthur could not place his trust in this information, for he was not dealing with a mere spider, but an extremely powerful monster whose Rank he did not even know, so he was literally gambling with his life with this reckless move.
As though racing against death itself, he did not look back at all and continued pushing himself to go faster, all that circulated in his head was escape, and with every additional step he took, he felt as though it were a new life he was receiving.
Fortunately for him, his fears were unfounded, for the spider did not chase him.

When Arthur disappeared into the distance and no trace of him remained, the sound of a soft sigh echoed from within the web, and unexpectedly, the spider muttered in surprise.
"It escaped?! How exactly did it manage to do that? This wolf is not ordinary, something about it is different."
The spider’s voice was feminine, extremely soft and melodious, but at the same time, it sounded cold and indifferent.
The hazy black form and the eight red eyes dissipated as though they were smoke, and in another place located deep within the silk webs, a very beautiful human woman opened her drowsy eyes.
"It should consider itself lucky this time, for all my skills are restricted because of the evolution slumber. Had it not been for that, I would not have let it leave so easily." She said with intense killing intent.
The woman had extremely dark black hair, and captivating red eyes, her skin was pure white like jade, as for the upper part of her body it was slender and alluring, but the lower part of her was a spider’s body with eight legs, its color was black with red markings.
Several thick silk threads clung to her body, pulsing and moving from time to time like snakes.
Without giving Arthur any further attention, the spider woman closed her eyes and returned to her slumber, for all this time she had only been half conscious, unable to move freely.
