Chapter 446: The Pavilion Spirit!

Moon’s eyes narrowed. Every spirit he had fought until now relied on physical combat, speed, and superior reflexes. None of them had used elemental abilities. This one was different, and the ice crawling across the ground toward him was proof of that.

’She is too dangerous to take lightly.’

Moon didn’t wait for her to make the first move.

"Why don’t you reunite with them in hell?"

He sent the Raiju forward.

The purple wolf leapt from his hand and streaked across the frozen courtyard, its violet light reflecting off the ice beneath it. It closed the distance in a heartbeat, aimed directly at the pavilion spirit’s chest.

The pavilion spirit raised her hands. The air freezing instantly, turning into a sword that materialized in her grip. It was massive, nearly as long as she was tall, its edge translucent.

~Whoosh~

The ice sword came down in a single vertical slash and cut through the Thunderclap Raiju.

The wolf split apart at the point of contact. But it didn’t die quietly. Purple lightning exploded outward from the severed halves, arcing across the spirit’s arms, her chest, her face. The current dug into her body and bit at her soul.

"Ugh."

A low grunt escaped her lips, clenching her jaws from the pain of the purple lightning. It wasn’t something she could shrug off, even at her level of power. Her hands trembled around the hilt of the ice sword for a brief moment before steadying.

But she was still standing. Staring at Moon with eyes that promised a thousand deaths.

Moon’s brows rose.

She had cut through his Thunderclap Raiju. Tearing it apart with a single swing.

’That must be some sort of skill...’

Moon studied the aura radiating from her body, measuring it against every opponent he had faced. It didn’t match Second Star.

It was above it. Far above it.

"A Three Star spirit." Moon muttered.

A Three Star spirit. The equivalent of thirty fully filled acupoints. A creature that stood at a level most Evolvers on this island couldn’t comprehend, let alone challenge.

His own combat power sat at roughly twenty-two acupoints with his five completed acupoints. Even accounting for his trump cards, his purple lightning’s soul damage, his beasts, his skill rune, and every trick in his arsenal, the gap between them was still large.

The higher someone rose into the star rankings, the bigger the differential was, and it was evident to Moon who was fighting the pavilion Spirit.

Still, Moon didn’t retreat. He didn’t signal his beasts to fall back. He didn’t reach for a defensive rune or activate [Air Step] to create distance.

"Good. If you were any weaker, this wouldn’t be worth doing."

The pavilion spirit’s eyes narrowed. The ice beneath her feet surged outward, racing toward Moon and his beasts like a living shadow, wishing to consume them.

The ground froze in a wave, and the temperature dropped so sharply that frost formed on Moon’s long eyelashes.

"Time to test it out."

Moon’s aura surged greatly, blue fire erupted from his staff and slammed into the advancing ice. The collision sent a wall of steam skyward, the two elements fighting against each other at the point of contact. The ice pushed. The fire pushed back. For a moment, they held.

Then the ice won. It punched through the flames and continued toward Moon.

’Her element is stronger than mine in a direct clash. As expected of an advanced element.’

Moon didn’t contest it again. He leapt onto Mirage and the horse bolted sideways, dodging the ice wave as it consumed the ground where they had been standing.

The Hydra surged forward, four heads launching pressurized jets of water at the spirit from the left. The Fire Hound charged from the right, its body wreathed in flame, claws carving burning trails across the frozen stone.

The pavilion spirit didn’t even look at them.

She raised her free hand. A wall of ice erupted between her and the Hydra, absorbing the water jets without cracking. Her sword swung horizontally toward the Fire Hound, and a crescent of ice flew from the blade, striking the beast in the chest and sending it tumbling backward with frost spreading across its fur.

Moon’s face darkened. The hound had received a serious injury from that attack. He immediately cast a healing spell towards it, before focusing back on the pavilion spirit whose eyes remained locked on his body.

"Your mindless beasts are beneath me." She said coldly. "Face me yourself, or die hiding behind them."

"You think you are so cold...why don’t I warm you up?" Moon smiled, immediately casting a lightning raiju.

The spirit did not attack him, as if proving a point, waiting for him to finish casting.

"You made a mistake." Moon smirked, crushing a rune in his hand the instant he sent his Raiju towards her.

Two purple wolves. One low, one high began to closing in on the spirit from different angles.

The spirit’s eyes widened for a fraction of a second. She drove her ice sword into the ground and a dome of ice exploded upward around her, encasing her completely.

Both wolves struck the dome simultaneously. At the same time, his hound, hydra, and beast soul sent their own attacks towards it.

The explosion shook the mountaintop.

Water, fire, and purple lightning crawled across the ice in furious arcs, cracking the surface, melting through in places.

Steam and frost erupted in every direction.

"Hydra! Hound! Continue to press her from both sides!"

When the light faded, the dome was completely fractured. Inside, the pavilion spirit stepped out, frost falling from her shoulders that were lined up with fresh cuts that raced down her arms where the attacks had hit.

Crimson blood dripped down her pale, thin fingers. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"Still going strong huh...you are a tough one. I must admit." Moon praised the pavilion spirit.

Once again, hit with a block for his advancement against the spirit. Moon was forced to activate his Eye of Truth. He wanted to have some challenge, but the spirit was too powerful to take lightly.

He could only use his strongest trump cards, one by one.
