Chapter 1: You Have Been Chosen
[System will arrive on Earth in five minutes. Please prepare.]
The screen flashed before Alex. He shifted slightly on the bed and pulled the blanket closer before continuing to sleep. Whatever the message was, he never saw it.
Alex was a college student. During his teenage years, he had been careless and wasted most of his time instead of studying. By the time he realized the consequences of his actions, his grades were already ruined, leaving him with no choice but to attend a mediocre college.
Now he was trying to make up for his mistakes. He studied every day from morning until late at night, hoping to earn good grades and secure a better future. The problem was that fourteen hours of studying a day left him exhausted.
As a result, once Alex fell asleep, waking him up became extremely difficult. Even an earthquake probably wouldn’t have been enough.

More screens appeared before vanishing. Alex remained asleep and completely unaware of what was happening around him.
A tremor ran through the room, causing the bed to shake. The ceiling fan rattled overhead, and small cracks appeared along the ceiling. Dust drifted down onto the floor.
Alex slept through all of it.
The first creature to react was Mia. The black cat jumped onto the bed and landed on Alex’s back before immediately starting to scratch him.
"Go away, Mia. Let me sleep," Alex mumbled. His eyes remained shut as he lazily waved one hand behind him.
Mia answered with an angry meow and scratched harder. Unfortunately, her owner seemed determined to continue sleeping.
[Five minutes have passed. Alex Mercer has not chosen any Class.]
[Randomly picking a Class. Mage Class gained.]
[Bronze Reward Box gained.]
[Alex Mercer, you have been chosen as a pioneer. You, along with a few selected ones, will be summoned to the Land of Origin earlier than the rest of the inhabitants of your planet. Please be aware that your performance in the Land of Origin will determine your survival and the survival of your planet.]
[Tutorial Quest 2: Choose a difficulty: Easy, Normal, Hard, Hell.]
The shaking became stronger. Outside, car horns blared continuously while distant explosions echoed through the city. Shouts and screams mixed together in the growing chaos.
Mia’s fur stood on end. She let out a screech loud enough to wake most people nearby, but Alex continued sleeping peacefully.
The cat stared at him for a moment. Then she slowly raised one paw and extended her claws fully, looking as though she had finally made up her mind.
Just as she swung her paw, more screens appeared.
[Five minutes have passed. Alex Mercer has not chosen any difficulty.]
[Randomly choosing a difficulty. Hell difficulty chosen.]
[Gold Reward Box gained.]
[Bronze Reward Box gained (2).]
A bright light appeared above Alex and Mia. It rapidly spread across the bed and swallowed them both before either could react.
The room disappeared inside the glow.
[Your consciousness is being summoned to the Land of Origin.]
...
Alex woke up with a snap and sat upright. Instead of his bedroom, he found himself surrounded by the ruins of what looked like an ancient castle.
Before he could process his surroundings, a giant black panther appeared in front of him. The creature swung a massive claw directly at his neck.
The attack never reached him. An invisible dome blocked the strike, producing a loud impact that echoed through the ruins.
The panther snarled and attacked again. Cracks appeared across the transparent barrier protecting Alex.
"Mia? When did you get so fat?" Alex yawned while rubbing his eyes.
The giant beast responded with another roar. It slammed its claw against the barrier again, causing even more cracks to spread.
Alex could feel the force behind each attack. Gusts of air slipped through the fractures every time the creature struck. The power behind those swings felt comparable to a speeding truck.
The sleepiness gradually left his eyes. Looking around carefully, he pinched himself and immediately hissed from the pain.
"...I’m not dreaming."
Alex frowned as he tried to understand what was happening. The last thing he remembered was falling asleep in his room after studying.
"What is going on? I was sleeping on my bed. How did I end up here? Is this some sort of prank?"
The thought vanished almost immediately. Alex was an ordinary student with nothing special about him. Nobody would spend a fortune creating such an elaborate prank just for him.
Another impact echoed through the ruins. The panther slammed into the barrier again, and the cracks widened further.
Alex felt his stomach tighten. If the barrier broke, he doubted he would survive more than a few seconds against that creature.
"That thing isn’t Mia," he muttered. His gaze remained fixed on the enormous predator outside the dome.
The creature was far too large to be any animal he knew. Even calling it a panther felt wrong.
"It looks... like a monster."
The words sounded ridiculous. Monsters existed in games and movies, not in real life. Yet he couldn’t think of any better description.
A soft popping sound suddenly came from beside him. Alex immediately turned toward the noise and found a tiny figure floating in the air.
The fairy had red skin, six wings, and two tentacles where her arms should have been. She looked strange enough to make the giant panther seem almost normal.
"JAsdasf ASfsfas asasfsf," the fairy said.
Alex frowned. He couldn’t understand a single word she had spoken.
At the same time, another thought occurred to him. The barrier clearly wasn’t supposed to let anything through, yet the fairy had appeared inside it without any difficulty.
The fairy tilted her head before realizing the problem. She coughed and pulled out several small items from somewhere behind her.
The objects floated into the air and flashed with light. The fairy waited for a moment before speaking again.
"Gsfafas— can you understand me now?" she asked.
Alex blinked in surprise. This time, her words were perfectly clear.
"Yes. I can understand you now," he replied slowly.
As he spoke, Alex moved several steps backward until he was as far from the fairy as possible. She noticed his caution and smiled, looking oddly amused by his reaction.
"Greetings, Alex Mercer. I am your Guide. You have five minutes to ask any questions you want. After five minutes, I will leave, and this shield will break," she said.
A loud impact echoed through the ruins as the giant panther struck the barrier again. Alex glanced at the spreading cracks before turning back to the fairy.
"What is happening?" he asked immediately.
"Integration to the Land of Origin. Your planet, along with the rest of your universe, is being elevated into a higher dimension called the Land of Origin. You have been chosen as one of the pioneers. Depending on your performance, your planet will either ascend successfully or be destroyed," the fairy replied.
Alex’s pupils contracted. The fate of an entire planet was too large of a problem for him to think about right now, but his family was still on Earth. If what she said was true, then this situation was much bigger than his own survival.
"How can I know for sure that you aren’t lying?" he asked.
