Chapter 126: Random Match Up [Fixed]
The first name that appeared on the holographic screens was
[Jaden Smith]
[Opponent: Rane]
Rane was the shield player from before. He had performed well in the first stage, winning cleanly through edge control, so it was not surprising that he was placed into the second stage.
After the two stepped onto the stage, the audience immediately quieted down.
Rane raised his shield, clearly preparing to fight steadily and methodically. His posture was stable, and his feet were firmly planted as if he intended to turn the battle into a long struggle. But Jaden did not give him any chance to set things up slowly.
The moment the host announced the start, Jaden charged straight out.
His sword was fast. And cold. Every slash pressed against the most uncomfortable part of the shield’s edge. Rane wanted to use the boundary, but Jaden’s continuous pressure left him no time to adjust his position.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The sound of metal collisions rang out repeatedly.
Rane’s defense was solid, but Jaden’s attacks were too urgent and too heavy. He was not simply trying to win. He looked as though he was venting something. Every strike carried a level of aggression that made the audience instinctively focus on him.
In the end, Rane’s shield was knocked aside by a slash, and he was forced all the way to the boundary. Jaden’s sword stopped before his throat, and after two seconds of silence, Rane chose to surrender.
"Winner, Jaden Smith!"
The audience erupted into cheers.
Jaden’s fighting style was direct and strong enough, but in the judges’ seats, a few members of the association did not look fully relaxed.
Zich looked at the stage.
"Too much force wasted."
Mira nodded lightly, as if agreeing.
Jaden’s score updated quickly, rising a little, but not perfectly. freēwēbnovel.com
The second match was Helen’s.
[Helen Magnus]
[Opponent: Xiya]
Xiya was a speed type dagger player who had earned a good evaluation in the first stage by using extremely fast close range pressure. Many people were eager to see whether she could force Helen to get serious.
The result came quickly.
No, she could not.
Helen did not use large scale flames, nor did she use exaggerated explosions. She only used small clusters of fire to block Xiya’s approach routes, with every flame landing in the most uncomfortable place.
Xiya was very fast, but she could never get into a comfortable range. The moment she tried to force her way in, Helen would step back half a pace, and flames would rise from the side, forcing her to change direction.
Several times, Xiya appeared close to finding an opening, only for another wall of fire to quietly cut off the route before she could take advantage of it.
The whole battle did not look chaotic. Instead, it looked very clean.
In the end, Xiya was forced into a corner by three small fire walls, and before her dagger could even thrust out, Helen’s flames were already hovering beside her shoulder.
"I surrender," Xiya said.
"Winner, Helen Magnus!"
This time, the cheers were even louder than during Jaden’s match.
Helen’s battle looked elegant, but those who understood knew that her control and judgment were terrifying. She did not waste extra mana, and she gave her opponent no chance. Every movement seemed calculated several steps in advance.
After her score rose, she had almost completely secured a formal representative seat.
Zich glanced at the light screen, then at Helen. It would be a lie if he said he wasn’t impressed by the blond girl’s fire skills.
Mira said nothing. She still looked at the arena, or rather, at the ground that had slightly changed color after being scorched by the flames.
When the third draw began, the entire arena’s noise clearly dropped. Everyone knew the four top candidates would collide eventually. The only question was who would be first.
The names on the light screen began to roll quickly.
Zich leaned back in his seat, his expression calm. He would have preferred to be drawn later, ideally after seeing a few more matches.
Unfortunately, luck had never been very cooperative.
The first name stopped.
[Zich Grave]
The audience instantly exploded.
"He’s here!"
"That summoner again!"
"Will he still use the slime this time?"
"The second stage won’t be so easy to coast through."
Many spectators leaned forward in anticipation, eager to see whether he would reveal something new.
The second name began rolling.
Helen looked at the holographic screen. Jaden also lifted his head. Mira finally raised the brim of her hat.
The scrolling gradually slowed.
In the end, the name stopped.
[Mira Vale]
The entire arena first went silent for a moment, then exploded completely.
"Zich versus Mira!"
"Slime field control versus farmer field control?"
"That’s way too perfect!"
"One uses poison to block the road, the other uses roots to control the ground. This is going to be interesting!"
"Is the association doing this on purpose?"
Zich slowly turned to look at Mira beside him. Mira looked back at him, and the two stared at each other for half a second.
She stood up, picked up her farmer’s hat, and said calmly, "It’s our turn."
"I know." Zich also stood up.
The two walked toward the arena.
Just as they stepped onto the stage, the arena began to change.
The originally smooth stone slabs gave off a low rumble, and several cracks spread outward from the center. Then part of the stone slowly sank, and dark soil rose up through the gaps.
Grass began to sprout from the soil. Patches of green rapidly spread across the stage.
The voices in the audience grew louder.
No matter how you looked at it, this terrain did not seem like an ordinary random field.
It was obviously much more suitable for Mira.
Even some spectators began exchanging strange looks as the transformation continued.
Looking at the soil and grass gradually spreading beneath his feet, Zich’s expression finally darkened a little.
"This is absolutely not random."
