Chapter 1138: Chapter 1108: Level 7!
He hadn’t expected this silent man to be this formidable. He’d known about his strength, but hadn’t imagined his speed would be just as flawless. Faced with this sudden turn, Wang Zhanting put down the newspaper in his hand and stepped forward. "Mr. Shao only lashed out in a moment of panic, don’t take it to heart. Robert being seized by ’Wagangnai’ is a huge headache for us as well. You know we’ve only just secured the drug market for the gangs here, Fourth Master still has a lot of product that needs to move through us, and we absolutely can’t do without Robert."
Wang Zhanting stepping out to smooth things over did nothing to make the codename Seven back off from Shao Weihua. The tip of the large machete in his hand had already pierced into the exposed skin on Shao Weihua’s neck, a thin line of blood beginning to push out along the blade’s edge. Seeing he had no intention of letting go, he turned to the Magician at the side. "Now is not the time for internal conflict. Talk some sense into your friend. If you kill Mr. Shao, your ’Black Crow’ won’t be able to answer to Chairman Quan either, will you?"
Perhaps it was that last sentence that finally moved the Magician, who had been silent all this time. He lifted a hand and adjusted his black top hat, revealing a pale face. His red lips seemed to move, parting slightly as he spoke.
"Seven." Two simple syllables slipped from those red lips, and that was enough to make the Seven on the table pull the machete from Shao Weihua’s back and jump down from the table. "Mr. Shao, you should still remember what Lucifer said last time. This is the last time. If you want to keep that head on your shoulders, then get yourself under control."
Wang Zhanting hooked up the corner of his mouth. He very much enjoyed the fear radiating from Shao Weihua, and just as much enjoyed the role he was about to play. He reached out a hand as the Magician and the codename Seven were leaving. "They’re gone. Are you alright, sir?"
"Gone?" As if unable to believe it, Shao Weihua raised his head and glanced around. Only when he saw that Wang Zhanting was the only one left in the room did he slowly crawl out from under the table. "Go, go shut the door." The moment he came out he was like a different person, immediately starting to give orders to Wang Zhanting.
"Yes, Mr. Shao." As Wang Zhanting turned to close the door, Shao Weihua ran a hand over the blood mark on his neck and slammed his palm down on the desk. "These bastards are really getting above themselves. If we don’t show them some color, they really won’t know who their master is."
"Robert—should we try to rescue him, or just leave him to ’Wagangnai’ like this?" Wang Zhanting only smiled at Shao Weihua’s words. "According to the report from the people we sent out that day, Xiao Lin was present as well. Besides him, another group also showed up at ’Wagangnai’ at the same time. Shouldn’t we first figure out who’s actually making a move?"
"Hmph." Shao Weihua gave a cold snort and lit a cigar. "You already have an answer, don’t put on a show in front of me." Wang Zhanting put on a wounded expression. "Just say what you’ve got."
"Angel Adam Gadmon and Nicholas."
"How is that possible?" Shao Weihua’s eyes flew wide open.
"I didn’t believe it either, but that’s the truth. And the one who helped them escape from the hands of the Eastern Three Provinces was precisely Xiao Lin." Wang Zhanting stopped, stunned, and waited for Shao Weihua’s next outburst.
This was not good news; there were all kinds of possibilities hidden in it. But in Shao Weihua’s mind, the worst one surfaced first. "Have we confirmed where Mr. Su’s freighter is anchored?"
"Yes, the position has been confirmed, and so far we’ve found no sign of it moving. But..."
"But what?" Shao Weihua’s eyes narrowed. He was clearly very displeased with Wang Zhanting’s hesitation.
"Right now I don’t think it’s a good time for us to act. The police are watching very closely. Without Robert as a lightning rod, they’ll be on us in no time. We can’t take that risk."
Apparently feeling that Wang Zhanting had a point, Shao Weihua pondered for a moment. "I’ll talk to Lucifer. But we absolutely have to get that shipment before Nicholas does."
"Understood. Also, there’s still a small portion of the goods shipped from Yanjing left on the freighter. Do you want me to go in person?"
"Go."
On the streets of Sicilian Palermo, an undercurrent was running that few knew about. In Meisai’s eyes the city looked much more peaceful; the nighttime crime rate had dropped noticeably. All of this hinged on one man’s disappearance. But from another angle, it had plunged him into a new kind of instability. Tang hadn’t shown up on patrol or at the station for a long time; this phenomenon wasn’t unheard of—he could pop up again any day. And now the person who came to his office most often was Francis. At this moment she was sitting prim and proper on his camel-colored velvet sofa, not saying a word.
In fact, he knew there were some things he couldn’t hide from this little woman. She might not involve herself in the gang’s business, but she was still one of them. Not long ago, there had been a mass brawl among inmates at the local Palermo prison. In that incident, Casab had been slightly injured, while a prisoner next to him had died on the spot.
"Francis, sitting here won’t solve your problem." Meisai lifted his head from the paperwork. "Incidents like this can happen in any prison. You should be grateful that your father is still in Palermo, enjoying a single cell to himself. A man like him should at the very least have been sent to a maximum-security facility instead of staying here." Clearly, Meisai was in a foul mood today; there was a lot of emotion in his words. But that only gave Francis a reason to see herself as being treated unreasonably.
She stared at Meisai with those big eyes, incredulous. But to his slight surprise, she didn’t explode immediately. Instead, she stayed silent for a long time, so long that Meisai finally raised his head from his documents and looked over at Francis.
"You’re finally willing to look at me instead of your paperwork?" Like a lover jealous of the attention given to someone else, Francis’s sour tone left Meisai awkwardly frozen where he sat.
"Oh, darling, what’s wrong with you?" Closing the file, Meisai adjusted his mood. Helpless toward Francis, he spread his hands and leaned back in his chair. "If you still want to talk to me about your father, then I really am powerless. And I don’t want this matter to create unpleasantness between us."
"Meisai, someone deliberately tried to kill my father, didn’t they? That prisoner who died in his place was someone Xiao Lin planted at his side to protect him, right?"
"You’ll have to ask Xiao Lin that yourself. I don’t know what terms he agreed on with your father, but it’s certainly possible." Meisai was telling the truth. (To be continued.
