Chapter 281: Chapter 281: Are You Going to Say It, or Am I?
"Eldest Sister-in-law, I heard from Second Sister-in-law that Eldest Brother is getting a promotion?" Li Yuan asked Shang Yuqi with a smile as she walked into the kitchen. "I wanted to be the first to congratulate you."
Shang Yuqi gave a faint, noncommittal smile and said, "Don’t worry about the kitchen for now. Dad wants everyone in the living room."
After she spoke, Shang Yuqi turned to the housekeeper. "Aunt Liu, we’ll have to trouble you with the kitchen for now."
Aunt Liu had been assigned to take care of Mr. and Mrs. Li and had been with the family for over a decade. She knew Shang Yuqi and the others well. Though she didn’t know the details, her intuition told her something major had happened in the Li family recently. Of course, such matters were not her place to get involved in. Her only duty was to look after the two elders; as long as they were safe, she wouldn’t pry.
Aunt Liu smiled. "It’s no problem. I can manage here. You all go on ahead."
Li Yuan found it strange. ’Shouldn’t this kind of celebration be announced at the dinner table? Why does today feel so odd?’ However, she didn’t say anything and followed Shang Yuqi to the living room with Song Qingwen.
Seeing Mrs. Li’s usual cold demeanor, Li Yuan pursed her lips and subconsciously sat down next to Song Qingwen.
Seeing that everyone had arrived, Mr. Li cleared his throat softly and said, "I’ve called you all back today because there is something I need to tell you."
Li Fengshan, his mind still on his unfinished work, asked impatiently, "Dad, what is it? Can you just tell us quickly? I have to get back. I’ve still got a pile of work to do."
Mrs. Li shot Li Fengshan a look. "Listen to your father."
"Oh." Seeing the serious expressions on Mr. Li and Mrs. Li’s faces, Li Fengshan suddenly felt that the matter was quite grave. He didn’t dare say another word, but he still glanced at his eldest brother, hoping for some kind of hint.
But when he saw Li Fenghuo’s tense expression, he pursed his lips. The situation seemed even more serious than he had imagined.
Mr. Li glanced coolly at Li Yuan and said, "The matter we’re discussing today is about your sister."
"Little Yuan!" Of those present, only Li Fengshan and Song Qingwen were uninformed. Song Qingwen looked curiously at Li Yuan beside her and said with a smile, "Little Sister, this is about you? Tell us, what’s the good news? Did you get a promotion?"
Song Qingwen and Li Yuan were the closest, so she nudged Li Yuan’s shoulder with a playful grin.
But Li Yuan was not so relaxed. Her face turned pale in an instant, and her heart began to pound.
Song Qingwen was confused. "Little Sister, why is your face so pale? Are you not feeling well?"
Li Yuan swallowed nervously, trying to suppress her racing heart. She forced a smile. "Dad, everything’s fine with me, there’s nothing going on. Why bring me up all of a sudden? I thought we were celebrating Second Brother’s commendation today?"
Mr. Li let out a cold laugh. The operation in Jia City today had been swift. They had not only taken Li Aiguo’s family into custody but had also successfully investigated the entire matter.
Li Aiguo hadn’t wanted to confess, but he was no match for his son, a coward who knew everything. Before they even really started questioning him, Li Xiaodong spilled it all. He confessed how the Jiacheng Li Family had come up with the plan for a substitute, how they had forced Li Wan to the countryside, tricked her into coming back, drugged her, and even disfigured her face. It was all to prevent the Beijing City Li Family from recognizing her. He even admitted they were worried Su Qing would be discovered and had planned to give her the same treatment.
Li Xiaodong had left nothing out, revealing every last detail. He even confessed exactly what powders the family had and where they were kept.
In other words, Mr. Li and the others now knew everything the Jiacheng Li Family had done, clear as day.
Li Fenghuo looked at Li Yuan coldly. "Li Yuan, are you going to say it, or should I say it for you?"
Li Yuan panicked, but she stubbornly feigned ignorance. "Eldest Brother, what are you talking about? I don’t understand."
Zheng Jianjun sighed. "Little Yuan, just stop struggling."
Zheng Jianjun’s words made Li Yuan’s face turn even paler. She stared at him in disbelief. In Li Yuan’s mind, it had to be Zheng Jianjun who had told the Li family. Otherwise, how could it be that just yesterday she had told him everything, and today she couldn’t contact her brother? And then there was this bizarre meeting and the family’s attitude...
This clearly!
This clearly meant they knew something!
’Could it be that after Zheng Jianjun learned the truth yesterday, he told the Li family everything today? Did he sell me out to curry favor with them?’
"Zheng Jianjun, you bastard!"
