Chapter 274: Chapter 274: A Visit

Li Fenghuo clenched his fists. To rob his little sister of her life, the Jiacheng Li Family had actually reduced her to this state.

By the time the Li family arrived today, the scars on Li Wan’s face had healed considerably. Still, the sight was shocking to them, especially to Li Fenghuo and Mr. Li. This was their first time seeing Li Wan, and her current state was utterly heartbreaking.

Afraid of scaring Li Wan, Mr. Li struggled to control his rage. Li Fenghuo, however, was losing his composure. Though he said nothing, his eyes were already red.

Shang Yuqi quickly gave Li Fenghuo a gentle pat and whispered, "Don’t scare your sister."

"Oh, right." It dawned on Li Fenghuo that he might be frightening Li Wan. He quickly took a deep breath, forcing down the anger welling inside him.

"Please, have a seat. My mother is a little shy with new people," Su Qing said to the Li family, seeing Li Wan huddled in her arms, refusing to look up.

"Yes, of course." Mr. Li quickly agreed, gesturing for the rest of his family to sit.

Mrs. Li leaned in and said softly to Su Qing, "Xiao Qing, over the past few days, we’ve investigated what happened back then. Your mother... she’s my youngest daughter, the one I lost long ago. That makes me your grandmother."

"And I... I’m your grandfather," Mr. Li added quickly, not to be outdone.

Li Huan was even more excited. "Su Qing, I’m... I’m your cousin! And you’re my cousin! From now on, we can be like real sisters!"

Su Qing offered Li Huan a small smile. "I had my suspicions," she said. "But I think we need to wait until my mother has fully recovered. She should be the one to make the decision."

’I can’t be the one to make this decision,’ Su Qing thought. After all, these were Li Wan’s parents. Who knew if Li Wan would even want to acknowledge them once she was lucid? Ultimately, all the suffering she had endured over the years was because of that very identity.

Just as Mr. Li was about to speak, Gu Xinsheng and several doctors hurried into the room. Huo Yafeng led the way, his face beaming with unconcealable joy and excitement.

Seeing the Li family in the room, however, Huo Yafeng paused. Having treated Mrs. Li before, he was well aware of the family’s standing in Beijing. He just hadn’t expected so many of them to show up at once. Then, a thought struck him: Li Wan’s surname was also Li. Suddenly, things began to click into place.

But with so many people in the room, he simply smiled at the Li family and said, "The patient needs a comprehensive examination right now. Could I ask you all to please wait outside for a moment?"

Gu Xinsheng had never met Li Fenghuo, but with Gu Xinsheng’s impressive credentials, Li Fenghuo certainly knew who he was. Li Fenghuo was taken aback for a second upon seeing him, but knowing this wasn’t the time for conversation, he complied with Doctor Huo’s request, and the group filed out of the room.

Once outside the room, Mrs. Li voiced her concern. "I wonder what kind of examination this is."

"Mom, Doctor Huo looked very excited," Shang Yuqi quickly reassured her. "I’m sure it means her condition is improving greatly."

Mr. Li nodded quickly. "Right. It must be good news."

While the Li family worried outside, inside the room, Huo Yafeng noted that Li Wan looked much more alert than she had a few days ago. He approached with a smile and asked her gently, "Do you remember me?"

Given Gu Xinsheng’s status and the severity of Li Wan’s case, Huo Yafeng had been personally overseeing her treatment from the start. So, she did have some recollection of him. At his question, she looked up at him, a flicker of confusion in her eyes. She thought for a moment, and as if a vague memory of the man surfaced, she nodded. "Re... mem... ber..."

Though she had spoken that single word slowly and indistinctly, Huo Yafeng’s heart leaped with excitement. After all, their original treatment plan hadn’t predicted a best-case scenario anywhere near this good.

This meant Li Wan was responding to the world around her, and she was starting to communicate.

"Wonderful, just wonderful," Huo Yafeng said to Li Wan with a smile. "We’re going to run some tests now. Don’t be afraid. You’re going to get better, little by little."

Perhaps because she was flanked by Gu Xinsheng and Su Qing—the two people she knew best—Li Wan was very cooperative, even nodding in agreement. This made Huo Yafeng and the other doctors so happy they couldn’t suppress their smiles.

Soon, Huo Yafeng had conducted a series of tests on Li Wan and drawn two vials of blood. He then turned to Gu Xinsheng and Su Qing. "The patient’s recovery is progressing very well," he said. "I believe at this rate, her condition will improve even further. I’ll adjust her treatment plan based on these test results. As her family, I hope you’ll continue to cooperate so proactively."

Gu Xinsheng smiled. "Of course. Rest assured, Doctor, we will absolutely cooperate."

After giving a few more instructions, Huo Yafeng left with the other doctors.

The moment Doctor Huo and his team left, the Li family rushed back into the room. "How is Li Wan?" they asked urgently. "What did the doctor say?"

Gu Xinsheng glanced at the Li family, then looked to Su Qing.

Su Qing spoke up. "Uncle Gu, they said they investigated what happened back then. They say my mother is their family’s long-lost daughter."

"That’s right," Li Fenghuo said. "I’m Li Wan’s older brother. I recognize you—you’re stationed over in Guang City, aren’t you? You’re Gu Xinsheng? Thank you so much for taking care of my little sister. Thank you."
