Chapter 272: Chapter 272: Astonishing Treatment Effect
Shang Yuqi lightly poked Li Huan. "You said you found Su Qing’s eyes familiar back then. How come you didn’t tell me?"
Li Huan pouted. "I never thought something so bizarre could happen. Who knew..."
’Who knew that my aunt might actually be an imposter?’
Although they had a pretty good idea of what was going on, they still needed evidence.
Mr. Li then instructed Li Fenghuo, "Investigate this matter secretly for now. Find out the truth of what really happened back then. Remember, don’t alert the Zheng family."
"Okay." Li Fenghuo quickly nodded in agreement.
Mrs. Li added, "Also, just keep this to yourselves for now. Don’t tell anyone, not even your second brother. We don’t want to tip our hand."
"Okay."
Shang Yuqi knew that because Song Qingwen and Li Yuan were close in age, the two were on better terms. Mrs. Li was afraid Song Qingwen would tell Li Yuan what was happening.
Thinking of Li Wan’s scarred face and her motionless, unconscious form in the hospital bed, tears streamed down Mrs. Li’s aged cheeks. "My poor daughter... How much she must have suffered."
"Mom, we’ll find the best doctor to cure our little sister," Shang Yuqi quickly comforted her.
Although nothing was confirmed yet, in her heart, Shang Yuqi had already accepted Li Wan as her true sister-in-law.
"Sigh." Mrs. Li let out a soft sigh. Huo Yafeng was already the best neurosurgeon in the country. Where could they possibly find a better doctor?
Mr. Li and Li Fenghuo hadn’t seen the extent of Li Wan’s illness, so they couldn’t help but ask worriedly, "Is it really that serious?"
Shang Yuqi sighed. "It’s not looking optimistic."
Mr. Li frowned. "This won’t do. I have to go see her tomorrow."
Mrs. Li glanced at Mr. Li. "You shouldn’t go yet. The moment you make a move, you’ll definitely attract attention. You should wait until Fenghuo finds out more."
Mr. Li knew his wife was right. He sighed with worry, but there was nothing he could do. "Alright then," he said. "We’ll wait. We’ll just have to wait."
Although Su Qing and Gu Xinsheng had their suspicions, they had no idea the Li family was already preparing a full investigation into the past. For now, all their energy was focused on Li Wan.
Huo Yafeng began the first phase of Li Wan’s treatment according to his plan, while Su Qing used her time staying by the bedside at night to secretly increase the amount of green mist she was channeling into Li Wan.
A week passed quickly. The results of Li Wan’s treatment astonished everyone, including Huo Yafeng.
In his office, Huo Yafeng carefully reviewed Li Wan’s test results before looking up at Su Qing and Gu Xinsheng, who sat across from him. "I asked you two to come in today because I wanted to know if you’ve given the patient any other medications during her treatment this past week," he said.
Gu Xinsheng asked, "Does the scar-removing powder count?"
"The scar-removing powder!" Huo Yafeng had also noticed that the wounds on Li Wan’s face were healing remarkably fast. When she was first admitted, the scars on her face were shocking to look at. But in the last half-month or so, they seemed to have faded significantly. Though they still crisscrossed her face, they were clearly getting better.
"Yes," Gu Xinsheng said. "It’s a powder prepared by an old traditional Chinese medicine doctor. It works quite well."
Huo Yafeng nodded, then asked again, "You haven’t used any other medications?"
Hearing this, Su Qing remained calm. She understood Doctor Huo’s dilemma—Li Wan was recovering a little too quickly. Gu Xinsheng, however, didn’t know this. His heart skipped a beat, and he quickly asked, "Doctor Huo, is there a problem with the treatment? Or is Li Wan not recovering well?"
’That can’t be right!’
’But I’ve felt her getting better these past few days,’ Gu Xinsheng wondered. ’She even seemed to react a little when I spoke to her. I thought the treatment plan you and your team came up with was working great.’
"That’s not it at all," Huo Yafeng said quickly. "Don’t worry."
’She’s recovering too fast!’
Huo Yafeng frowned at the test reports in his hand. After a moment of thought, he said, "Here’s the situation. As of now, the patient’s recovery is going very well. However, it’s far exceeding our expectations. That’s why we wanted to ask if you’ve been giving her any other medications."
’I’m genuinely baffled,’ Huo Yafeng thought. ’The results are astonishingly good. It’s completely incomprehensible. Can this treatment plan really make a patient recover so quickly? Why has it never been this effective before?’
Hearing this, Gu Xinsheng let out a sigh of relief. "Doctor Huo, you gave me a scare! I thought the treatment wasn’t working. So, good results are a bad thing now? HAHAHA! We haven’t given Li Wan any other medicine besides that scar-removing powder. You can rest assured about that. We were also worried that using other medications indiscriminately might have an adverse effect on her treatment."
Gu Xinsheng was in a great mood. The treatment was so effective it even surprised the doctor. Didn’t that mean Li Wan had a real chance of making a full recovery?
At that thought, Gu Xinsheng felt like he was floating on air.
"So you haven’t used any other medicine." Hearing this, Huo Yafeng’s brow furrowed even more deeply. He stared intently at the test reports, his frown so severe you could have pinched a fly in it.
Seeing Doctor Huo’s baffled expression, Su Qing laughed inwardly but said aloud, "Doctor Huo, maybe my mother just has a stronger constitution, which is why she’s responding so well to the treatment."
"Mm, that’s the only possibility for now." Huo Yafeng nodded, then looked up and smiled at Su Qing and Gu Xinsheng. "Overall, the patient’s recovery is extremely optimistic. If she continues to recover at this rate, she might actually wake up completely."
"Really!" The moment Gu Xinsheng heard this, he shot up from his chair. He stared intently at Huo Yafeng. "Doctor Huo, she can really make a full recovery?"
"It’s a possibility." Huo Yafeng didn’t make any absolute promises. After all, while the results were good now, who knew if her progress would slow down later? This treatment plan had never yielded such remarkable results before.
"Hope is all that matters!" Gu Xinsheng laughed heartily. He stepped forward and firmly grasped Doctor Huo’s hand. "Doctor Huo, thank you so, so much. Thank you."
The man, well over six feet tall, felt his eyes redden as he spoke.
Huo Yafeng quickly soothed him, "We’ll all work together—doctors and family—and hope for a miracle."
"Okay, okay." With red-rimmed eyes, Gu Xinsheng grinned like a child.
