Chapter 91: Side Story 13: Fileontina’s Great Adventure – Part 3
"Today’s weather is wonderful."
While guiding the two-horse carriage, I couldn’t help but mutter to myself.
"Really, the weather has been perfect today! Thank goodness!"
Patti, the hunter girl, happily joined in with my weather commentary.
I had two sisters, so Sistina was there, but Patti’s energetic personality was completely different. Now she feels like the little sister I never had, and to be honest I’m very happy about it.
"We’ll reach the first town in the King’s direct territory, Barrietta, soon. Shall we stay here tonight?"
Rigen, the leader of the adventurer party , asked.
"Yes, I’d like to gather information about Yabe-sama as well. That sounds fine."
And so we entered Barrietta. We passed down the main street, checked into our inn, and planned to visit the adventurers’ guild next.
Apparently had to submit a transfer report to the guild in the King’s direct territory.
Yabe-sama was probably active in this town too. If we went to the guild, we would quickly get information!
"Dark Python skewers! Only today!"
"Dark Python stew! It’ll give you stamina!"
"Dark Python slaa-style! It’s the best!"
The street stalls were selling all kinds of food in a huge volume, but Dark Python dishes were especially popular?
"Dark Python meat... Are these rank monsters really being sold in such quantity?"
While peeking at the stalls, Rigen collected information.
"Yep! It seems a huge number of Dark Pythons were brought in just the day before yesterday. From yesterday they’ve been selling the meat. There are tons of Dark Python food stalls now! You should try some. The Dark Python slaa-style, where you roast the meat and wrap it in bread with cabbage and tomato, is incredibly delicious."
"Then I’ll have one. Hey, everyone, want to try?"
"Leader’s treat?"
Paula teased.
"Ah, I see. Want to try, Fileontina-sama?"
"E-Erm, is that all right? Then I’ll have one too, if I may."
Since it was a rare chance, I decided to try one.
"Soon, Patti?"
"Hmph."
Patti turned her face away. That’s not a good reaction. She really needs to grow up more.
"Fine, do whatever you want."
Rigen ordered the number of skewers from the stall uncle. He handed us roasted Dark Python meat wrapped in bread.
Crunch!
"Mmm~!"
It was delicious! The juicy meat juices burst in my mouth, and the bread matched perfectly. The cabbage and tomatoes also added vegetables.
"It’s good, right! It seems a massive number appeared near the forest in Bahana village to the north, and it was really tough. Apparently the super-strong monster tamer wiped them all out. And just because Bahana village was preparing a Dark Python extermination request with Barrietta’s adventurers’ guild, that tamer rushed out to save the village. The world really has people like that. He went to save the village before even receiving the request or reward."
"Wow, there really is a hero like that."
Rigen sounded impressed.
Well, the only hero I know who’s this strong is Yabe-sama.
"Fileontina-sama, I wonder how many towns Yabe-sama has saved now. He seems to be rescuing every town we pass."
"Eh, is this also Yabe-sama’s doing!?"
"Such a powerful monster tamer... or someone called ... Do you know anyone like that?"
"Indeed! When he saved us, Yabe-sama himself fought. But after that, a bunch of huge wolves lined up behind the carriage and followed us. If those are all contracted beasts, it’s an unbelievable ability!"
Patti excitedly told us what happened. No matter how many times I hear it, Yabe-sama is so cool!
After hearing the story of how Yabe-sama had defeated the Dark Pythons that attacked Bahana village in Barrietta (actually, it was the wolf tribe contracted to Yabe-sama who wiped them out completely), I was moved. But I still hadn’t fully appreciated how amazing he was.
We had just arrived in the commercial city Barlere. The moment we stepped into the town, it was filled with festive atmosphere. I wondered what happened, but apparently an orc army had attacked the town the day before, and a hero had defeated them.
I immediately thought it must be Yabe-sama... but it turned out to be someone else. The "Knight of Love and Justice, Red Kabuto" had defeated 1,000 orcs along with a wolf tribe. I was sure Yabe-sama had done it... but apparently not.
At the adventurers’ guild we saw a halberd over 3 meters long on display.
It had the words "Donated by the Lord" written on it.
Apparently this halberd was the weapon Red Kabuto had used when he defeated 1,000 orcs. Now I remembered there were many weapon shops selling "Red Kabuto"-style halberds. This was the real thing — their replicas were being sold.
"Still, I thought for sure Yabe-sama had done it..."
"Hm? Do you know Yabe?"
While I was muttering, a dignified middle-aged man with a Kaiser beard appeared.
"Yes, Yabe-sama is the benefactor of my life and my future husband."
When asked about Yabe-sama, I always answer this way.
"Future husband? He was traveling with a woman, wasn’t he?"
The man flicked his Kaiser beard and worriedly said.
"If he’s a hero like Yabe-sama, having multiple wives is only natural."
"...I see. Well, that man was certainly on another level. Thanks to him this town was saved."
The guild master here was this Kaiser-bearded man. He said the "Knight of Love and Justice, Red Kabuto" was one of Yabe-sama’s contracted beasts.
Now the number of contracted beasts is increasing. As expected of Yabe-sama!
All the stories I heard — every single one — were events that would have destroyed the town if left alone. Yet Yabe-sama handled them all perfectly... Perhaps Yabe-sama is truly a god.
Today we’ll rest. We depart for the royal capital first thing tomorrow morning.
Our distance from Yabe-sama has now been reduced to just one day.
Please wait for me, Yabe-sama.
This Fileontina will reach you soon!
