Chapter 7: Dilemma
"Yona," I said, and immediately felt my heart start pounding. Excitement surged through me no matter how hard I tried to keep a straight face.
"Your Highness, I’m glad to see you’re in good health. Many of us have been worried after not seeing you for the past three days."
She gave a graceful bow before walking over. If I didn’t have Lorel’s memories, I’d never believe this woman constantly bullied him. She looked so... pure.
Damn it, get yourself together. Moressa’s still here. I can’t let her notice anything’s off. freewёbnoνel.com
"It’s good to see you too. Sorry for making everyone worry. I just needed some time alone to think about a few things, but I’m fine now. You don’t have to worry anymore."
I waved casually.
I was sitting at my study desk, about to dig through the stack of books lying on it out of pure curiosity when she came in.
I was wearing a blue T-shirt, three-quarter milk-colored shorts, and a pair of comfortable slippers. At first I’d assumed this world was medieval like the movies back on Earth, but the wardrobe proved me wrong. Honestly, I should’ve realized that from the way Moressa dressed.
That tight leather skirt...
...Ahem.
I digress.
I’d tied my pink hair into a neat bun. It was ridiculously soft too.
Anyway, back to the milf...
...I mean, the woman standing in front of me.
...Hm?
Is she trying to signal me?
Wait...
Oh.
Moressa.
She wants me to send Moressa away so she can jump me.
...Calm down. Calm the hell down. You can’t let your dick do the thinking, Finn.
Yes, you’re going to taste her eventually...
Just not now.
Control your damn dick.
"I’m... hungry," I suddenly said.
"Oh! You’re right. My apologies, I should’ve thought of that first. Please give me a moment."
She hurried out, the soft click of the door following behind her.
"I don’t like her."
Moressa.
Apparently this wasn’t the first time she’d said that. Lorel’s memories confirmed as much, so I ignored her and turned back to the books.
The first one was titled Diary.
Except someone had crossed it out with several huge X’s and written Journal above it.
...Couldn’t he have just bought one that already said Journal?
Whatever.
I reached for it.
"Moressa. Take ten steps back."
She’d been giving me this weird feeling like she was trying to peek.
"Understood."
She walked back exactly ten steps.
I kept staring at her for several seconds before finally looking back at the book.
Then...
"Moressa!"
I whipped around.
That feeling again.
I had no clue how, but it felt like she was still trying to see what was inside.
Her face didn’t change in the slightest.
Cool as ever.
...Am I imagining things?
No.
Can’t be.
"Turn around. Don’t look back until I tell you."
"I understand."
She turned to face the bed.
I looked back at the journal.
The longer I held it, the stronger the feeling became.
Whatever was inside...
Lorel clearly didn’t want anyone else reading it.
I shifted in my chair, then suddenly glanced over my shoulder to catch her.
Still facing the bed.
Not a single movement.
Good.
I grabbed the cover.
Just as I was about to open it...
...
"Moressa..."
My voice came out low.
Anyone could tell I was annoyed.
The feeling had gotten even stronger.
I didn’t know how this damned maid was doing it, but somehow she was peeking without even facing me.
...You know what?
Forget it.
I’ll read it when I’m alone.
Whatever instinct this body had, I trusted it.
This journal was meant for Lorel’s eyes...
And now mine.
No one else’s.
I pushed it aside and picked up another book instead.
The Great Four.
I flipped to the title page.
Author: Juiop Bewas.
...That’s a terrible name.
Still, I liked the font.
It reminded me of Times New Roman, just a little more gothic while staying easy to read.
Next page.
Copyright.
Well...
Guess copyright still exists here.
After that came the table of contents.
I skipped it.
Spoilers.
The next page read:
Dedicated to Hawes Kiola, my bosom friend.
Then the preface.
"This book covers the era before the current system of power was established. Before the rise of the Demigods. Before the Four Kingdoms. The Age of Stone."
Knock.
Knock.
Hm?
The door opened and another maid stepped inside.
Young.
Blonde hair.
Green eyes.
Her chest wasn’t exactly... melons. Maybe a C cup at most.
Still...
Those legs.
...Hold on.
Is that maid uniform supposed to show that much skin?
"Your meal, Your Highness."
Looks like Yona decided not to come herself.
She must’ve realized I couldn’t exactly send Moressa away like I used to, so she stayed away to avoid raising suspicion.
"Thank you."
I stood, and she quickly arranged everything on the smaller table by the window instead of my study desk.
I sat down and looked outside.
In the distance, knights were training.
There was supposed to be a garden too, though I guessed it was on the other side of the mansion.
This place was Lorel’s personal mansion.
In a way...
It was an exile.
Far from the Kingscrown estate where his siblings who weren’t attending the academy lived.
Simply because he was considered an oddity.
For the same reason, he didn’t even bear the Kingscrown surname.
Instead...
He carried his mother’s.
Morel.
...Why do I keep zoning out?
I didn’t even notice the maid staring at me with concern.
"Sorry. Got lost in thought."
I waved for her not to worry.
She bowed lightly.
For some reason, as her head lowered close to me...
My hand moved on its own.
I started stroking her hair.
I didn’t even realize I’d done it.
It just...
Felt natural.
And since I’d already started...
I gave it a few more gentle pats.
Damn.
Her hair was really soft.
"M-M-MASTER?!"
She jumped back like a startled cat, face burning bright red.
"...Oh."
I blinked.
"You don’t like it?"
Playing innocent sounded a lot better than admitting I’d was jn the wrong...
WHICH I WAS NOT.
"I DO...! I-I mean... I DON’T MIND!!"
Oh?
...
I like this maid.
Should I swap her with Moressa?
Knock.
Knock.
Another maid entered.
"Master, you have a visitor."
Visitor?
