Chapter 250: 250. Gambling Mechanic

Looking at the familiar disk, Jake noted that three sections were red and the rest were black. Currently, the sins of Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony, and Envy remain to be unlocked.

Jake stared at the roulette for some time before clicking on it. Immediately, the disk began spinning and stopped a few seconds later.

[Congratulations, you’ve unlocked the Sin of Greed!]

"What? I already have it." Jake’s eyes widened and he quickly checked his balance.

Exactly one million evil points were deducted. He called the system assistant, only to learn that there would be no refund.

"So I just wasted a roll?" He couldn’t help but feel salty about this.

Previously, the roulette had always picked a new Sin, so Jake assumed that it would do so once again.

’’I shouldn’t forget that this is a gambling mechanic." He sighed, wondering if he should spin again.

’What if it lands on Lust or Pride next?’ Jake thought to himself and began analysing.

The roulette’s chances of picking a previously unlocked sin depended on the number of sins in each group. Since there were more sins that hadn’t been unlocked earlier, the chance of getting a new one was pretty high.

’There are only seven of them and this is already my fourth spin. So now, the chances are obviously not so high.’

Jake finally had a better understanding of the roulette. This was bound to happen. The more sins he unlocked, the greater the chances of him getting an old one.

’’And here I thought I’d just have to farm for some more years to unlock every sin." Jake shook his head, muttering to himself.

’’This damn system also increases the price every time a new sin is unlocked..."

Navigating back to the main panel, he eyed the disc and rolled it once again. For the first time, Jake actually felt nervous about this.

However, his mindset had changed. This system was a tool and he shouldn’t overly concern himself about the mechanics. As long as he got stronger, sooner or later, he’d figure it out himself.

In a few moments, the disc stopped and the sound of a system notification rang in his mind. With it, the message also popped up.

[Congratulations, you have unlocked the Sin of Gluttony!]

’Oh?’ Jake smiled. He was ready to accept a loss but this was a welcome surprise. However, when he looked at the disc again, his smile immediately fell.

[Sinner’s Roulette (Unavailable, Requires 10,000,000 Evil Points.)]

’’It will be a billion by the time I get to the seventh sin!" Jake didn’t even want to think about it.

Dismissing those thoughts, he quickly opened a new panel that introduced the Sin of Gluttony. The description was rather short and simple compared to the other ones.

Basically, consuming anything in excess triggered this sin. This directly reflected Greed which required owning things in excess. The more valuable, the better.

To be honest, Jake was hoping to get Envy since it paired perfectly with Greed. However, Gluttony wasn’t so bad.

"At least now I have a reason to eat." Jake laughed, looking at the carnage happening below.

Driftin was almost completely in shambles and less than a quarter of its residents were alive. With the top combatants already dead, the monsters were basically having a feast right now.

"Wait-"

[Ding! You’ve made another individual commit a gluttonous sin. You gain 200...]

[Ding! You have made another...]

[Ding! You have...]

Suddenly, thousands of system messages covered the panel. As this was a new sin, Jake hadn’t muted its notifications.

"Ugh my head..." Rubbing his temples, Jake verbally sent a mute command and only then the rings faded away. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

The messages also disappeared from the system panel.

’’Now that this is done, I should start preparing the array."

As Jake withdrew the materials from his inventory, he called Yvonne and flew toward the middle of the ruined city.

...

"Your Highness, today’s dress is prepared." A royal attendant called out from outside the door.

However, only sounds of water splashes and soft humming answered her.

Inside the bathroom, two maids gently scrubbed the body of a beautiful girl in her early twenties. Their hands pressed on her smooth skin which was slightly pinkish.

The hot bath’s vapor made the maids sweat but they diligently did their work without complaining.

"Your Highness is blessed, indeed." One of the maids complimented, gently rubbing the girl’s fleshy chest mounds with soap water.

"That prince from Auximore is lucky to be engaged with you!" The other maid lifted the freckled girl’s feet and began washing it. frёewebnoѵēl.com

"I don’t like him." The usually silent Princess Shirley spoke.

The maids looked at each other, astonished. They weren’t actually expecting a reply.

"Why so, your highness?" One of the maids asked.

Shirley picked a flower petal in the bath water and smelled it. After that, she leaned on the bathtub and faced the window.

"He’s not my type of man..."

Scented water flowed from the princess’s back as she stood on her knees, looking at the clouds.

The maids were just about to say something when Shirley spoke again.

"I like adventurous men. Those who are brave, unfettered by rules and etiquettes..."

The maids remained silent. Princess Shirley was the current queen’s first daughter and older than Splennar by a year.

From a young age, she’d been taught by Queen Sophia to be a well-mannered princess who would uphold the image of the royal family.

Unlike the youngest Princess Cecil, Shirley’s childhood was spent learning all kinds of noble skills.

Mundane activities were a taboo for someone of the royal family. She must always be better than her peers! This was the doctrine forced upon her for the past twenty-one years.

Thus, Shirley had always felt caged, unable to express herself. Out of spite, she became exceptionally reserved, only speaking when absolutely necessary.

It was no wonder that she despised her current fiance who was just like any other conservative nobleman.

"He’s much suited for Daphne." Shirley commented, turning away from the window.

Natural sunlight fell on her body which glistened with thousands of waterdrops. As she stepped out of the bathtub, the maids quickly brought a towel.

They did not continue the conversation.

Princess Daphne, despite technically being the oldest, was actually the daughter of a concubine. However, unlike Cecil or Shirley, the eldest princess held considerable power within the royal court.

It wasn’t wise for lowly maids like them to gossip about her.

Wrapping the towel around her delicate body, Shirley noticed the change in the attitudes of her maids.

’Hmph, their lips are shut as soon as I mention her.’ The princess scoffed internally and walked out of the bathroom.

’’Your Highness,’’ the attendant waiting outside bowed.

"Hm?’’ Shirley looked around, confused.

"Where’s my dress?"

"Oh that." The attendant smiled, taking out a ball of wool from her pocket.

The princess pursed her lips, as if amused.

"You’re lucky that I find this funny." Shirley chuckled, unwrapping her towel which she threw on a couch.

Humming a cheerful tune, she glanced at the wardrobe mirror, only to find that ball of wool magically unraveling on the attendant’s hand.

The wool thread quickly began circling her naked body, causing her to let out an astonished gasp.

In mere seconds, Shirley saw herself wearing a white one piece which tightened around her curvy body. So much so that the dress itself felt indecent.

"This is too much..." The princess pulled on the dress but a palm suddenly grabbed her from behind.

Before Shirley could even struggle, she lost consciousness.

Isobel, who was disguised as the attendant, lifted the young princess with one hand and turned into a shadow.
