Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Reporting Qiao Siyuan and Chen Xiufang
Cao Tianwang’s hand trembled with shock, and he nearly dropped what he was holding.
"Master Cao, what’s wrong?"
When Cao Tianwang snapped out of it and looked again, the person in the corner was gone.
The people around him were still calling his name. Cao Tianwang snapped back to reality. ’Once today is over, I’ll be immortal,’ he thought. ’I’m not afraid of some old bastard’s talk of fate!’
Jiang Li spotted Chen Xiufang desperately pushing her way to the front of the crowd.
"Quiet," Cao Tianwang said, and the crowd instantly fell silent.
Cao Tianwang then walked over to the prepared altar, picked up some talisman paper, and with a flick, several jets of flame shot toward the sky, drawing a wave of gasps from the surrounding crowd.
After the ritual was complete, several families holding children crowded around him.
"Master Cao, these are poor children we found. Please, help them."
Cao Tianwang looked at the children before him—exactly thirteen. It was the perfect number to make up for the four who had disappeared that night.
A vicious glint flashed in Cao Tianwang’s eyes as he thought of that night. But he had replacements now. ’Once today is over, none of that will matter anymore.’
A smile returned to Cao Tianwang’s face. "Rest assured, everyone. I will send them to the best orphanage."
"I will also donate all of today’s Incense money to the orphanage."
"Master Cao is truly a good man."
Watching Cao Tianwang reach out to take a child, Huo Qing gave the order. "Go!"
BANG! The door was kicked open, and a group of police officers burst in.
"AHH!"
"Everyone, get on the ground with your hands on your head! Don’t move!"
Seeing this, Cao Tianwang turned to run, but in the next instant, a hand seized his throat and slammed him against the wall.
Staring at the woman before him, his eyes widened in shock. "Cough... It’s... it’s you... You..."
Before he could process what was happening, the police had him pinned.
"What’s going on?"
"I don’t know. Why are there so many police officers here?"
"Cao Tianwang is suspected of mass brainwashing and murder! Take everyone here back to the station for thorough questioning!"
"Officer, you’re mistaken! Master Cao didn’t kill anyone; he does good deeds."
"That’s right. Master Cao finds new homes for these children, sending them to the orphanage. That’s a good thing."
Huo Qing’s expression darkened as he looked at the brainwashed crowd.
The other officers carried jar after jar out of Cao Tianwang’s house.
One of the officers announced, "The ’Master Cao’ you speak of is a complete and utter fraud. He put all the children you gave him into these jars."
"What!"
The crowd stared at the jars being carried out, stumbling back in terror. There were so many...
Cao Tianwang glared viciously at Jiang Li. "What in the world did you do?"
"Jiang Li! What are you doing here?"
Only then did Chen Xiufang spot Jiang Li; she never expected to see her here.
Jiang Li watched with a cold expression as Chen Xiufang was led away.
Cao Tianwang’s questions were still unanswered when he saw Cao Kun walk in.
"Cao Kun! What are you doing here? Did you come to laugh at me?" Cao Tianwang snarled, his eyes wide with fury as he stared at Cao Kun.
Cao Kun took a deep breath as he looked at the jars piled in the courtyard. "Cao Tianwang, you’re an animal!"
"HAHAHAHAHA! It’s their good fortune to help me defy fate."
His face twisted into a ferocious snarl as he glared at Jiang Li. "This is all your fault! How on earth did you do it?"
"You bitch! If you hadn’t ruined my grand plan..."
Cao Tianwang’s voice suddenly choked off. He pointed a trembling finger at Jiang Li. "You... you..."
Huo Qing, Lu Xingye, and the others turned to look at her.
Jiang Li shook her head, a bewildered look on her face. "I don’t know what he’s talking about."
"Take them away."
Huo Qing and his team took everyone back to the police station to be interrogated one by one, hoping to find out where the children came from.
"Officer Huo, I want to report Chen Xiufang and Qiao Siyuan for their involvement in multiple crimes."
Back at the station, Jiang Li looked at the two men before her.
Huo Qing and Lu Xingye both froze, turning to stare at her in astonishment.
"This is evidence of Qiao Siyuan’s involvement with vice, gambling, and drugs. Also, child trafficking."
When Qiao Siyuan and Chen Xiufang couldn’t "find" children, they resorted to all sorts of methods to buy and sell them, even organizing and expanding their network...
Lu Xingye snapped out of his stupor and stepped forward to take the evidence from her hand.
"The physical evidence is in the study of Qiao Siyuan’s new house."
"Xingye, take a team and go with Jiang Li."
Huo Qing looked at Lu Xingye. A lot of wrap-up work was already piling up, and he had already requested backup from his superiors.
’I thought I’d finally get some rest after this case was over,’ he thought. ’But I never expected this...’
Lu Xingye handed the evidence to a nearby colleague. He looked at Jiang Li for a few seconds before finally taking a team to the hospital.
In the hospital, Qiao Siyuan was still dazed when he woke up, aware only that the pain in his lower body had intensified.
He looked around, but there was no sign of Jiang Li.
The next moment, the door opened. He looked up and saw Jiang Li enter, a flash of joy crossing his face. But then he saw the police officers following her, and his body went rigid.
"Qiao Siyuan, you are a suspect in multiple criminal cases. Please come with us. Additionally, we need to search your home."
Qiao Siyuan tried to run, but a sharp pain shot through his lower body, leaving him completely at their mercy.
"Officer, there must be some kind of misunderstanding. I solicited a prostitute, yes, but multiple criminal cases..."
Qiao Siyuan’s voice died in his throat as he watched Jiang Li pull out a keychain he knew all too well. Jiang Li dangled the keys triumphantly.
"Jiang Li, you bitch! You did this on purpose! So that’s why you suddenly agreed to come back with me."
"This was your plan all along! You bitch! You goddamn bitch!"
’No wonder I saw her at the police station so many times. No wonder everything she said came true.’
’Bitch! I never should have brought her back in the first place!’
Lu Xingye started to step forward, but his colleague stopped him.
Qiao Siyuan glared at Lu Xingye with bloodshot eyes. "You two adulterers! Ptooey!"
Jiang Li watched the enraged Qiao Siyuan with a blank expression.
After his burst of fury, Qiao Siyuan found Jiang Li’s calm composure even more terrifying.
Leaving a few officers behind to handle the interrogation, Lu Xingye followed Jiang Li to Qiao Siyuan’s new house.
Jiang Li stood in the doorway, watching as Lu Xingye and his team began searching for evidence.
They even found a bag of drugs in Qiao Siyuan’s room.
"Bag everything and take it with you."
Jiang Li went with them to the police station. The moment Chen Xiufang saw her, she shot to her feet in agitation. "Jiang Li, you—"
"Chen Xiufang, over here!" an interrogator called out.
A flicker of confusion crossed Chen Xiufang’s eyes. ’Didn’t they just finish taking my statement?’
’Why are they calling me in again?’
Chen Xiufang glanced at Jiang Li, feeling deeply unsettled.
Lu Xingye’s hands trembled as he read Jiang Li’s statement. ’So Jiang Li was a victim too.’
’That bastard, Qiao Siyuan!’
Lu Xingye handed the written statement to a colleague. When he turned to look for Jiang Li, he was told she had already left.
Lu Xingye clenched his fists and turned to help with the work. ’I’ll make sure that animal Qiao Siyuan gets the punishment he deserves.’
Back in her hotel room, Jiang Li took a shower, preparing to get a good, peaceful night’s sleep.
"Big Sister, that Lu Xingye is really nice to you."
The hair dryer in Jiang Li’s hand fell to the floor with a CLATTER.
